The legend will forever be affectionately known as "Killer" by the fans in the main for his goalscoring instincts, but combied with his personality traits, it's a perfect nickname. Peewee can take credit for starting it and it will remain apt for those who had the pleasure of seeing him in action over his two spells with the club.
Also looking back to Oggy's original post about the Milwall team of the late 60's, it is amusing that the nickname for their predatory striker was Pissy (Possee) - not sure if it was just us or them that coined it though ! Seem to remember that Millwal team with Barry Bridges in it as Possee's stike partner ?
[cite]Posted By: March51[/cite]Right! From 'No Substitute' by Keith Peacock (ably assisted by Rick Everett:) ...........(re: Derek Hales: season 75/76).......I also gave him his famous nick-name. It came about during a pre-season cross country run, when I was jokingly offering odds on the other players and naming them as if they were racehorses to add to the comic effect. I called him 'Killer' because of the icy stare he would give anyone who upset him, even in training, but it summed up his killer instinct in front of goal. The fans picked up on the tag, adopted as a chant and it stayed with him throughout his career. Hales enjoyed his 'bandito' image and played up to it.
An interesting credit there and I'm not suggesting poncho/snatch/peewee is lying or mistaken for one moment but that book was written circa 2004 so in true Wordhunt style I'm afraid Messrs Piffle and Balderdash would not deem that a reliable source of reference...
There is a gap of nearly thirty years there and due to the possibility of Keefy suffering from 'selective memory fatigue' I'm not going to be happy until someone comes up with a better reference...
[cite]Posted By: Lewis Coaches[/cite]Programe 13th nov 1982 has a profile of Derek Hales. The profile states the nickname of Deadly Derek and shows him holding a shootgun.
You mean we've been calling him the wrong name all these years...?
[quote][cite]Posted By: ross[/cite]Can I please re-iterate that I am the original cafcross off Addickted and I have no connection to this person whatsoever![/quote]
[cite]Posted By: ross[/cite]It's actually the second time I've said it. Because I don't want people to confuse me with you after all the stupid threads you keep starting.
Fair do's.
Perhaps you should change your name to cross. ;-)

Like anyone cares
I can understand his reaction if the guy makes dopey comments such as the one he started this thread with.
Incidently I haven't noticed him(CAFCROSS that is), conceed that he is completely incorrect and thanking those of us who've corrected him.
Which of course leads one to suspect a wind-up wouldn't you say?
Any reference to the sainted Derek David Hales that includes anything other than "Killer" in it is just not on. It flies in the face of south east London footballing folklore. Is nothing sacred?
