For what it's worth, his record at the four clubs mentioned

His Wikipedia article talks about heavy spending at Oldham that led them to big financial trouble, leading to Dowie and the squad not being paid for several months. There's no citations for this - is it true?
In my humble, Sloth is the overwhelming reason we're where we are. How Murray, and all of us, must wish greater effort was made to keep Curbs at the end of the previous season. Regrets, we've got a few!
Hull are in a lot of debt, their top earners don't have clauses requiring a wage cut upon relegation, they're on long contracts and have no real sell on value either. They have also apparently borrowed against their parachute payments for next year as well. They are in huge trouble if they can't come straight back up at the first attempt.
From what I understand he was not sacked from CAFC because of football reasons. I think the club panicked when they apointed Reid. I was happy with the Dowie and Pardew appointments at the time. I would have Dowie as our manager over the present bloke right now. Sorry can't remember his name!!
Not read those properly, but a £40m wage bill. I know there's more TV money than when we were there, but that's huge for a club in only it's second season in the Prem.
Bullard on £45k a week apparently.
Hull's seven recognised strikers have scored nine goals between them all season but collectively rake in £200,000 a week.
Daniel Cousin is on loan with the Greek side Larissa. The striker earns £26,000 a week at the KC and is contracted until June 2011
"We face a tough period to trade through the transitional period and readjust the business to life in the Championship but I am confident we can do that," said Hull's owner, who must bitterly regret failing to insert mandatory relegation clauses, which would have lowered remuneration by 40% or 50% in the event of a fall into the Championship, into the contracts of Hull's players.
No relegation clauses ridiculous as well, think everyone has heard that one already though.
My uncle was on a course for Barclays once and Dowie was guest speaker. He talked about man management skills, motivation skills etc and strangely my uncle said it was very good and he has alot of good ideas. Dowies record speaks for itself though. X amount of relegations and drifting from club to club dosent look good on the cv. I'm my opinion he is in the same league as Roeder. Keeping Hull up was a big ask, it would of been for anyone but they didn't give themselves much of a chance with Dowie. He has got 'bounce-back-ability' though I'm sure he will pop up somewhere next season

When will clubs learn? wasn't that the reason we were so screwed financially?
Also gotta love the BBC's description of Dowie:

The fans blame Pearson for bringing in Mr Bouncebackability Iain Dowie, who for all his spring-heeled enthusiasm, couldn't rescue a teaspoon from the bottom of a washing-up bowl.
Dowie's a kind of bushy-tailed, empathetic Grim Reaper, or Death Management Consultant, I suppose. The face fits, any road. If he taps on the door of your football club, be afraid, be very afraid.

Yeah I don't think the later signings did, as those players came to the club expecting us to push on or at least be a mid table club, not get relegated.

Twist on the old joke -- those that can ... do, those that can't ... teach, and those that can't teach ... end up getting their clubs relegated.
Dowie's a Northern Irish Kiss ... kiss your club's league status goodbye.
Was gonna have a score on Hull to get relegated when the great man got appointed. Just sorry I didn't now. Next time - and there will be a next time - I will have some of that.

I looked and would've put my house on it at 8/13
Unfortunately I put substantially less than that on it but mustn't grumble, the useless big oaf has finally given me something good

A manager should have come to Charlton, looked at what we needed and not bought this lot:
Souleymane Diawara, Djimi Traore, Andy Reid, Amdy Faye, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Simon Walton.
We needed to stay up and this list showed a fair amount of ignorance to that fact.

In context, I would say that the money (and wages) subsequently spent on Varney, McLeod, Gray et al was far more damaging in the long term.

Make that "Temporary Management Consultant," with emphasis on the TEMPORARY.
It is one of things that couldn't be made up, with fact better than fiction.
