[cite]Posted By: Oggy Red[/cite]So many people go to Glastonbury and think it's just a big bands music fest. That's only one part of it.
They miss so much.
It's like several, almost separate festivals running adjacent to each other ..........
- Loads of culture and creativity going on in the circus & performers field - drama, comedy, caberet, street theatre, mime
- Acoustic tent high up on the hill for contempary, folk and blues addicts
- Dance Tent/Everglades for those pumped up to dance all night
- Alternative technology and other ways of living
- Gardening field, vegetable and flower growing
- Green Fields up on the hill, full of art, crafts and Tiny Tea Tent type cafes with their own tiny stage inside,
- Lost Vegas village in a random field where you have to really search for it
- Workshops for people who want to improve their creative, artistic, music or specialist dance skills - or just try it out
- Great entertainment specially for kids in the Children's Field
Loads of stuff that you'd never see on the telly.
You'd be surprised at the number of people who go to Glastonbury and never go down into 'Babylon' (the big market area near the pyramid stage) ..... and not interested in the big name bands on the Pyramid stage.
But they know what they like. And that's what makes Glastonbury such a great festival - there's something for everybody.
Totally agree Oggy. I'm 43 and would like to think I have another Glastonbury in me. It's never been about watching the big name bands on the main stage. I think the TV coverage gives a distorted (and limited) view of it. There is so much more going on. Must admit I never experienced one of the wash outs, but with decent weather, there are a few better places to spend a summer w/e in the UK.
