the liberal needs you...

Was in there last night for a 40th party. Don't know if any other regulars know that there on the verge of closing down and going bust. If there wasn't the party in there last night there would have been 6 people drinking in there on a Saturday night. I know its not the most glamours of venues but would be gutted if it went. So if anyone has a birthday or special occasion comming up think of the liberal as a venue otherwise we will all to go somewhere else for a pre match drink. Maybe we could hold an end of season party in there for lifers and partners friends etc, anyway just wanted to try save it.

  • Didn't relise its got that bad (the money situation).
Will have to talk to fellow Lifers tomorrow about organising something.....
  • I heard a rumour the last time I was in there. Yes, it's not the greatest bar in the world but we've been going there for pre-match drinks for 15 years now, it would be a tragedy if it closed down. I'll definately be in there for the Carlisle game.
  • Do you need a membership to get in or pay a entrance fee? I have never attempted to go for a drink in there even on a match day, always known it's there but ended up somewhere else.
  • You can join or pay £1 on the door for entrance on MatchDays.
  • Ah, may investigate tomorrow...

How much for a pint out of interest? And how much is membership?
  • Membership is around £25,
Fosters (I think) is £2=70 (again not 100% sure).

Not really helpful am I ?
    ;-)
  • I've started a facebook group. For what it's worth.
    Save the liberal club
  • doubt it will help. Nothing was done to help the oak when that closed its doors for a while. Plenty of pubs need help.
  • Tell them to get a telly....

  • Maybe voting Liberal in the election might help somehow?
Maybe UKIP will take it over!
  • joined the facebook group, i have only been the once but a very charlton pub. I think that would be a good idea having an end of season party there, hopefully to celebrate promotion?
  • Ooh yeah, that's an important factor, do they have Sky Sports? ;-)

Unless your female, then it's free ;-)

Nice pb for football, can't imagine why anyone would use it other than that.

Not when your allowed in the anti on a non match day anyway ;-)

That's exactly what I thought.... prime example of when it would be better to have no website at all!!!

The quality of that site sums up the club
  • Unkind but true.

Seen the other websites the web design company responsible for it has done? Honestly, I can't believe anyone would pay a company that shite to do anything - it would be cheaper and better to do it yourself in poxy notepad.
  • My mate said he would go in there again if they stopped watering down the pints in there. So maybe thats why the buisness is kinda bad?
  • Watering down pints....do you know this is almost impossible to do in this day and age.
The barrels are sealed and to boot under extreme pressure. So unless they were to spend a large amount of money to put some equipment in line to do this automaticly after it's left the barrel and is on it's way to the pumps then how on earth do you think this can be done?
You can't get into a barrell to put water in...it's virtualy impossible....or so I'm told. Unless it's done at the brewery that is.
They can of course water beer down by adding it at the bar....but you and everyone else would see them doing it....which is hardly likely.
Years ago it could be done and you sometimes heard unsubstanciated rumours that this was going on....but I never heard of a pub actually being done for it. And this is the first time I've heard someone suggest this in many a year.
Wines and spirits are another thing altogether of course....speaking for myself I've never believed these kind of rumours, they all end up unsubstanciated anyway.
I think it's a bit mean to say the least to say that about The Lib.................no matter what your opinion of the place is.The people there are tyring to run a business after all....would you like someone to say that about your business, I think not 4-life. After all you only got this info second hand anyway.
  • silly thing to say IMHO CAFC 4 life as sound as says.

Like lots of clubs and pubs they will be struggling and with the con club next door its a crowded market. Nothing to do with watered down beer.

been going there since 92 and never heard anyone say that.

Perfect pre and post match venue IMHO .
  • The beer is good, you never wait long for a drink even when it's rammo, it's big, I'd be gutted if it shut.
  • They wanted 40 bob each off my father and I at the Brighton game, even though he is a senior citizen and had told them he was a member but had left his card back at home in Somerset.

As Curb_it says, lots of the less well run pubs are in trouble.
  • Are you ever happy?

You seem to have the most extraordinarily unpleasant experiences following the Addicks....I wonder why you bother to be honest.

I'm not after this season. Depending on where I am living next season I may change teams back to Liverpool.

Besides, what has the door policy of the Liberal Club got to do with CAFC? It's more to do with the general scuzziness of the area and the way in which everyone is trying to rip everyone off. I was in Catford the other day, not by choice, that place is full of inbreds. Horrible.
