Messages for Mooney, Parky and the team

edited March 2010 in General Charlton
For some reason I can't stop thinking about the disgusting booing and cat calling from a section of our fans yesterday. It really has sickened me and I fear it could prove a negative turning point in our season. As others have said, this isn't what our club is about and I for one want to see an end to it. Quite frankly I think many so called fans have forgotten what being 'Charlton' means.
With that in mind I'm starting this thread so fans can pen a message of SUPPORT to let the team know we're 100% behind them for the run in and, if necessary, the Play Offs. I'll forward this link onto the club in the hope Mooney, Akpo, Parky and the rest of the team can have a read.
Maybe I'm being naive but I happen to want this team to succeed.
Those who want to be negative, please leave it for other posts on CL. Sorry, but this is about unbridled positively.

  • Totally agree
  • i think we need to go round and give them all a cuddle
  • I find it funny how loads of people defend booing, then the first thing they say is "i dont boo".....
  • May I firstly say that I don't boo.
Seriously, the booing has sickened me as well. 100% with you.
  • I want this team to succeed, the team being Charlton Athletic FC, and have just invested in a 5 year s/t renewal in order to watch the success, at whatever level, for the duration, as I have since my first appearance on the terrace at The Valley in November 1955 (v Man C, 5-2).
While appreciating that the team is 3rd in the division, I also have expectations of the relative abilities of players who kick and head a football for a living, who train for a couple of hours 4 or 5 days a week, and who are being well-paid, even at 3rd tier level, to perform for 90+ minutes in a league game once (sometimes twice) a week.
It is therefore somewhat disappointing to witness a shot from a striker go into touch by the corner flag on the opposite side of the pitch, to see another striker nudged off the ball on the edge of the penalty area only to sit on the ground and wave his arms at the ref, and for a midfielder to misplace more passes than should be expected of a seasoned pro and spend more time talking at the ref and opponents than encouraging his team-mates.

It is also disappointing to see a team 'switch off' defensively in the manner that cost two goals yesterday and four last Saturday, including a centre-back who thinks he has time to dwell on the ball and/or let it bounce before trying to defend.

It was good to see David Mooney score with a clinical finish yesterday, but the cupped-ear gesture tarnished the achievement, particularly in view of recent performance levels and delivery.
I wonder when our own emergent strikers will be given a chance to impress in their parent team, and when the youthful ability of Jonjo will again grace the starting XI?
  • I was at Millwall, a cuddle was not what they needed.

fortunately though, the others are worse! it won't take much to show that we are better and if the management and team can grow a pair between themselves and roll over some sides we'll be rocking again. i still fancy us to win through in the play offs.
  • really, you fancy us in the playoffs.... mate, well I admire your confidence......
  • Can never understand "Boo-ing" your Team:
Thought the idea of being a Supporter was to Support the Team, I think you'll find the clue in the words....

but they'll see that booing is acting in the best interests of the club and fancy that it's hard cheese if someones feelings get hurt along the way,and voice their concerns accordingly.the capitulation at millwall did not warrant cheering or letters to the club telling them that we are still behind them and you can keep serving up that crap as we'll just keep taking it.not saying that it's right or not
  • Valley 11 is correct in his attitude to the thread spoilers . He only wanted gestures of support from fans to the manager and team at a time when they need it most.
Parkinson was correct in his analysis of the clubs and his position at this time in the clubs history. What they need is a level of support that is of a higher order than when we are doing well . Valley 11 was trying to do just that. The contributers that have decided to 'kill the thread' should be ashamed of themselves. There are many other threads on this site to whinge and boo etc. or even attempt to be funny, killing off a genuine thread of support is just sickening and very very childish.
An apology to valley 11 and the other SUPPORTERS of his thread should be given.
  • its selfish venting and is ABSOLUTELY NOT in the best intrests of the club.... look what happened last time the booing culture caught us, it got to the point we were booing every time the opposition got a corner.....

get off the fence Thread killer

Agree 100%. There are plenty of other threads going for moaning/debating. The guy just wanted to try and keep ONE thread for positive comments, but some of you can't even respect that.

All as bad as each other.

i am sorry if i have helped take this thread away from it's intended route but it's my contention that the booing is just a distraction from the fundamental problems running through the club at the moment and where we are such a very easy going bunch of fans,i just feel it's a major cop out to point the blame at the stands as i don't like being told that everything is actually the supporters fault and no one else's.

my offer of a cuddle still stands
  • I sent valley a whisper that Id derailed it...

    my fault... sorry

  • what a sensitive bunch of birds we all are ...... shock horror charlton fans and players all get precious on themselves again........
if 17k of home fans to see basically a notch up from park football in some of the play isn't enough encouragement i don't know what is ........
a few boo's here and there would make me want to prove the doubters wrong if i was playing but maybe i'm not as sensitive as most .... grow a pair
we're at last chance saloon as a club and how many of these players will be here in 3 years if we don't go up .... prolly a few the rubbish ones!

we'll all still be here tho
  • Never booed. Never will. COYR
  • Very happy to add my name to the original idea of this thread, that is to show our support of the Charlton team and club. We are losing our reputation as a family club as fast as Dennis Rommedahl could run down the wing; whoever described the atmosphere at the Valley yesterday as "toxic" was spot on. Mooney's name was even jeered when the team was read out.

Nothing I or anybody else can write will convince the booers to give it a rest and see what can happen with a bit of purely positive support - I think we're finding out what happens with the opposite.

    So sad.
  • lets all get behind the boys and maybe we have a chance!!
  • As I have said to my daughters many times over the years I can forgive lack of ability but not lack of application.

All I would say to the players is that if you can look at yourself in the mirror after each match and honestly say yes I genuinely gave everything I have for the shirt then that is good enough for me and I will stay with you.
  • Who needs Wayne Rooney......

    We've got Dave Mooney.......

Another word is Fan - derived I would guess from fanatic. Fanatics pay their money and can do what ever they so please.

True. Doesn`t make it the right thing though does it.

    I've just had a look at an online dictionary and it under "fanatic" it states;

"a person with an extreme and uncritical enthusiasm or zeal, as in religion or politics"

So, if "fan" is indeed derived from the word "fanatic" as you suggest then the people booing cannot be "fans", can they?

Just a thought - don't really care what people want to call themselves.

Maybe it comes from "Fantasists" that would make sense in many cases :-)
