Clive Mendonca - in a bit of a fix??

edited March 2010 in General Charlton
Hi this is the first time I've started a discussion so forgive me if this has already been done or previously discussed. I was looking at another forum and noticed someone had posted some comments (yesterday) about the current plight of Clive Mendonca. I'm not sure of the source or how accurate but just wanted to let Lifers know.
Part of what the poster wrote I have replicated below for you to read-:

"Apparently, he's now skint and jobless, and was last seen doing some sort of body double work for a football advert...

Obviously we don't know the circumstances behind his fall (which incidently mirrors ours as a club) but surely if it's true something could be done??

We gave him a testimonial didn't we vs. NEC Nijmegan I think?

Surely the club could give Clive a role in the 'Legends' style events?

Failing this either a bucket collection ( where we collect money for him... not buckets )"

End of quote.

Anyone know what exactly has happened, I looked on ebay and he is selling some of his CAFC memorabilila, including his winners medal from the Play-off final.

  • Was hea bit too keen on betting a while back?
  • Cheltenham probably finished him off.
  • [cite]Posted By: carly burn[/cite]Charlton probably finished him off.

It's nearly finished all of us off .......
  • I heard a story similar to this about Steve Jones. Remember the forward who scored in the 3-3 at Anfield in our first season in the prem. Selling all his gear on ebay etc.

    Edited - Wrong thread. Duh!
  • Very sorry also to have to report that Clive is now almost completely bald.
  • Steve Jones definitely sold his winners medal on e-bay. I even contacted him and he e-mailed me back.

Very sad if Clive has to do this.

    I can't find it.

But if this can get over 3 grand then imagine what Clive's medal could fetch

    Wimbledon Division 4 Champions medal

I have attached the link, medal, boots and shirt will be going on ebay soon apparently

  • I made the board aware of this sale a few weeks ago and I know that the club have spoken to Clive recently.

Hopefully the medals, boots etc will end up at the valley.

Bromley Addicks have offered a £500 contribution to make it possible.

  • Did he not turn down a coaching role in some capacity?

Shame though that a real legend is n this state - hope t all turns it for the best
  • Real shame if this is the case, Clive could certainly teach our strikers a thing or two.

As for Steve Jones, did he not set up a football memorabilia shop which failed?
  • If anyone could impart some knowledge to our "strikers" it's Sir Clive.
  • Sorry if i'm missing something, but

This is just a link to a few photos that CM has signed recently.

I can find no mention of boots/medals etc - or any credible news item that he is short of cash.

Any meaningful info / links greatly appreciated

ESPECIALLY AS APRIL FOOLS DAY IS JUST A FEW DAYS AWAY !!!!!!!
  • yeh this seems a bit iffy to me - but if its true give the geezer a new deal with us he'd still be head and shoulders above them lot masquerading as our centre forwards at the minute

    agreed!
  • I would love to see him in a Charlton shirt again. Shame he got injured and didn't last like Kevin Philips.
  • If you were ebaying (new verb), wouldn't you be on a site like this pushing your stuff and getting some help?

    All bullshit I reckon.

If you read down on the above it states:

"COMING SOON CLIVES MATCH BALL, BOOTS & WINNERS MEDAL!! KEEP WATCHING............!!"

I can't comment on Clive's financial state or if he is in work etc. All I know is that Steve Jones is selling some signed posters (see above) and has said that boots, match ball etc will be coming up for sale soon.

The Club are also aware and have spoken to Clive since this appeared on Ebay.

Ash Tray, if you check the user list there is a new user called "mendonca memorabilia"

I'm glad to hear that the club are aware and lets hope they/we can help.

  • Can we not buy them? .....................as in the "Royal" we !!
I couldn't afford to buy them myself, but maybe a good old fashioned CharltonLife whip round. ; )
  • I will volunteer to make my flat the charlton life museum. We all chip in and buy them and I display them in my flat????
Sounds like a great plan to me
  • I notice the other week that one of my locals in Dag'nam was holding a football night with Billy Bonds and Alvin Martin as guests. It's organised by S3 Promtions, see link below:

    http://www.s3promotions.co.uk/bonds_martin.html

The boozer is pretty rough and ready and a wee bit BNP orientated apparently! Nice. Imagine the event would be quite good value if you're a Hammer though.
  • S3 Promtions is Steve Jones btw!
  • [cite]Posted By: Swisdom[/cite]Did he not turn down a coaching role in some capacity?

Yes, but he wanted to go back up north, or rather his wife did.

Yes, but he wanted to go back up north, or rather his wife did.

Is he married to Iain Dowie?
  • And coming soon an evening with Curbs & Super Clive. That should be a good !

As I said above Bromley Addicks have offered, if required, £500 to help buy some of the items but I'm hoping that the board can come up with something.

If we had a price then it would be worth looking at a collection but medals can fence many £1,000s depending on the market so might be beyond just a CL whip round and that is only if Admin think it's an appropriate idea.
