Negativity everywhere

edited February 2010 in General Charlton
I don't think I am going crazy here but every time I log on to this forum since Monday it seems it is full of negative threads. We all know Charlton lost, but hey we have lost before and we will lose again but it's not the end of the world and certainly not the end of the season, but all this negativity just makes the losing more depressing and more prolonged. Lets face it we always lose on sky, it was inevitable. But the positives are we are 4th with 3 months left to go and only 5 points from Leeds lets start thinking positive. If we don't overtake leeds we still have the play-offs....

  • About time... Something positive
  • Having said that i've got the flu and not sure i'll live till the weekend ooooh doooom
  • oh no man flu!!!! I'll call you an ambulance lol
  • last two seasons we played in this league(our lowest since entering league football) we got promoted ......at best that is what can happen this year ... these aren't great times for charlton ... sorry to break that news
  • If we lose at Millwall I wont come on here until August
  • To be fair Sadie, i think the current negativity is formed on the back of recent results. The last five games have produced two defeats and three draws.
We have slipped from top two to fourth. Our play is disjointed and we can't pass nor score more than one goal.
Yes we are in the play-off positions. But other teams challenging us for the position are hitting form as ours dips. Even if we hang on to the play-offs, it's difficult to see a positive outcome.
The one 'ray of light' as you point out, is there is time to put things right. But do we have the personnel?
  • Results are poor Negativity and we get told off for it. Results are good Posotivity and we get told of for it lol we cant win.
  • Nice post Sadie . One of my most favourite names that

  • On the bright side, Palace lost a six pointer at home last night, which drags them further into the shyte

  • Yeah i agree sadie, far too depressing on here of late so dont bother as much or wont post

    COYR!
  • we are 4th!!! Oh crap...
  • The negativity started on the pitch though didn't it?

Why is it that every time we start playing badly our manager, players, boadroom, even the announcer on the pitch and now even our fans (and probably even the nice lady who sells the fish and chips near the stadium) starts to talk about our (the fans') negativity.

Yeah, okay then I just had a word with myself in the mirror its all my / our fault again!!

I'm sorry I let you all down - now can you ALL apologise to me!

    JohhnyBev:

I think it's you that just took it personally sonny-jim. I was being ironic, which after recent events is becoming harder and harder. BUT actually you yourself just proved the above points (sigh)

Well i'm all for positivity BUT you know it's running thin now and the fans need to get a grip as well and wake up.

Sometimes players respond to a yell and a scream rather than "it'll be okay" (which we have been hearing for nearly 4 seasons now). Have you ever watched Ferguson, Wenger, Warnock, etc, for example? They don't take that crap from players who don't try - Why should we?

Plus the stadium is more like a morgue at the moment than anything else - I would rather hear the fans screaming "C'mon you useless so and so". Any proper sportsmen will tell ya it spurs you on. I don't believe all this negativity crap - about it getting to the players, etc. It bloody works for every other team when the fans have a go. Something highlighted to me recently by my brother-in-law (a Leeds fan) who attended 2 home games.

This, I'm afraid, is indicitive of the ethos at our club as mentioned in other threads. It's an excuse and the fans pay money to see their team roll their sleeves up and pull their fingers out.

And just to let you know I will be there Saturday cheering my team on (for the 25th year of my support for this club) and if we lose then that's fine but if we haven't given it a decent go (again) then I will exercise my right to have a moan about it too and if I'm called negative for that then so be it.
  • I think it is about how you approach life. I am not enjoying Charlton's slip down the league like everybody else on this forum. However, moaning about it is not how I go about things, I like to think positively and get the best out of every situation, that goes for football as well as life in general. I don't take an awful lot of notice in all the negative comments and moaning that goes on, I am just glad it is not me making these comments.
  • Typical bird comment, '' we lost, it's not the end of the world''

    OF COURSE IT IS!!!!!!!!!
  • This is all about perspectives:

Isn't there positivity in telling the players to pull their effing fingers out! - I think there is.

Negativity, to me, is saying "Calm down it'll be alright, you'll see"

Couldn't have wrote how i feel any better CHG. I'm a 'when the chips are down, you try even harder' kind of guy and refuse to dwell on things negatively. I'm as gutted as anyone after a defeat / poor performance, but if that is still impacting on your life 24hrs on then something isn't right. Those sort of worries are reserved for friends, family and work, and your hobbies shouldn't negatively impact on you after the initial feeling of disappointment.

So i'm not negative Sadie. I've realligned my expectations to believe that promotion is now looking more unlikely than likely, but i'm realistic enough to know that nothing is guaranteed and the picture can change very quickly. If it don't work out and we have a few years of struggle ahead, then so be it. Will make the next time we have a good spell all the more enjoyable.
  • Now there's negativity for you!

Exaclty, I have pretty much got my head around being in league one next year with the cloth being cut, but I will not let it get me down, I will buy my season ticket, enjoy match days and look forward to Saturdays once more...
  • Its best to avoid this place after a defeat for a few days sadiejane if the negativity gets to you.

this place has been negative for many a year now... since the beginning of our demise.

I do worry for the mental health of some of the posters on here ... as essex al is a perfect example - not one or two or three BUT 9 exclamation marks to point out losing is the end of the world.

We're crap at the moment but hopefully one day we may get better. Heres hoping.

    Well said CHG and AFKA.

    You're so right, CHG.

    Life is better that way.
  • I have a little moan after a game but some of the comments and jokes on here make me laugh soon after. Yeah it can get a bit negative on here but CL cheers me up more times than not.

Spot on, could be worse we could be fighting for relegation again. Instead we have a chance to go up still if we can string a run of results

More negativity - You see it's all perspective - What you see as being positive, I see as being negative (and vice-versa)!
