I haven't watched games on Sky for a few years now (too bloody expensive!) but i got the Sky mobile app for my iphone at the start of the year.
I don't know if it is because i forgot how bad he was or if he has got worse over time, but Andy Gray drives me mad!
It seems his style of commentry is to see what a player does and if it comes off then he did the right thing and if it doesn't come off to hammer him for taking the wrong option. Now i might be missing the point but isn't he just getting paid for stating the obvious?
I'm not a massive fan of referees', especially after some of the ones which we have had this season, but he criticises every decision. There was one moment in the Liverpool - Arsenal game last night when the ref gave a freekick for handball, and Andy Gray had called hand ball about four times, when they showed the replay and the ball had come off the players chest. Andy Gray then spends the next couple of minutes castigating the ref for a terrible decision, even though he agreed before the replays!
I also can't stand the way Martin Tyler kisses his ass, "I remember a certain young scottish striker getting 50 30 yard screamers a season". I don't and i've never heard anyone apart from Martin Tyler say that Andy Gray was a brilliant player.
Sorry, rant over... he just fills me full of rage!

I cant stand him, worst of it is when i want to play fifa have to hear his silly voice aswell!!!!! think there should be an option to change commentator
You cannot compare him to Motty or Pearce (who I think is the best, he doesn't scream anymore). Compare him to Lawro, Alan Smith, Waddle or last nights offering on 5 Live Robbie Savage!!! He is just 100000000 times better than all of them.
Anyway, I only remember him scoring with his head!
A good example is the way he talks about diving. He is always going on about booking a player if he goes down and you don't give a free kick. However, when a player gets booked for 'simulation' and the replay shows he was fouled he'll be the first to hammer the ref for being harsh.
Anyway, really interesting to see he's really popular guess i'm in the minority. Really funny how everyone watchs the same thing but sees it in a different way.
Guess that's why everyone loves football.
Cannot stand him. Gets his cock out over everything Man U.
I agree with you totally mate and in fairness all my mates cant stand him either, haven't met anyone who actually likes him. i think they are the minority here, i wish they still did fan commentator as that used to be better then listenning to him
Skys coverage is excellent but even they don't manage to let their experts see real time in slow mo!
I think most of the people who seem to be around at the moment don't seem to be particularly articulate or knowledgeable but they're good for a sound bite or they're a big name.
I would like to see them use people who can add a bit more by telling you something which you might not have noticed either tactically or some background on a new player.
The reason Gray is so good is that every Liverpool fan swears he hates them and loves the other Sky 3, every Man Utd fan swears he hates them and loves the other Sky 3, every Chelsea fan... etc - you get the idea.
The fact is, that he treats them all the same, but in their peculiar "up their own arse" paranoid way, the followers of the four greediest, smugest, most pampered teams in the history of football can only hear when he criticises (95% of the time, quite correctly) "their" team.
We get 'em all in the bar, and I have to point this out time and time again. They all have this idea that the referees, the commentators, the press and the FA are out to get "their" team. I just point out how fantastic they must be to get in the Champions league time and time and time again when faced with all this adversity - as opposed to clubs like Charlton who get all the breaks...
Just an aside, the linesman with the beard at yesterday's Arsenal v Liverpool game is Stephen Child. He refereed Dartford v Sutton on Saturday and I was on his line....
46 goals in 62 games for Dundee United as a teenager.
Won the golden boot with Villa.
Was PFA young player and player of the year in 1977, last player to do that until Ronaldo did it in 2007.
Won a league cup with Wolves
Won the league, FA cup and cup winners cup with Everton
He was very busy with the ladies as well. "Gray has been married twice before, to Vanessa Taylor and Jacqueline Cherry. He has fathered five children, by four different women".
I like Andy Gray. Think him and Tyler are the best pairing around.
I agree 100% Chirpy. He's gives the best analysis by far. I think that I watch the games quite intently, but most games he sees things that I missed and he's nearly always right. The bloke knows what he is talking about & is the best, but no one is perfect.
I'm not his biggest fan but in comparison to the alternatives listed he's a genius! Listening to Savage last night drove me bonkers. I don't a flying #### about who you saw in Harvey Nicks the other day Robbie or who you "smashed into" during the previous nights game, juts comment on what's in front of you if you must.
Hypocritical too, given his own rant about the radio coverage his own lot were getting recently to suddenly turn up and take the money for doing the same to another club. Grrrr.....
I would rather listen to someone i had never heard of talk sense, than some big star who is dull or doesn't have a clue what they're talking about.
I remember on Sky recently they were talking about Van Dar Sar being the best goalkeeper in the world. Jamie redknapp was asked if he could name anyone else good. He reeled off the standard other names from the premiership and then got stuck. Finally after a bit of thought he said "i think there's a lad at Inter who is alright". I guess he was talking about Julio Cesar the Brazilian number 1, who is a great keeper. However, there wasn't a mention for Gigi Buffon or Iker Casslias who are definitely better than Van Dar Sar.
Have to agree with that.
I believe he was offered the Everton managers job quite a few years back but decided he was better off with his Sky number. What a job eh? Football 24/7. I think he works quite hard looking into the way teams play and players strengths and weaknesses.
Now, Andy Townsend...........
David Pleat reminds me of Roast dinners. Strange, but when i was younger and came home from playing Bexley football, he was always commentating on an Endsleigh league match (Nearly always Luton at Kenilworth Rd) just as i was tucking into me roast!......memories. Cant remember the main commentator tho?
On the pundit point, I like Lee Dixon. There are not many pundits who say things I hadn't always thought of myself, but he is one. Read his analysis on the BBC website, some is great.
