Wow, we've had some really great times and have been fortunate enough to see some terrific football and players at The Valley. The less said about some of our suspect away kits the better though! We'll be back!
Bentys goal against Birmingham would have smacked me straight in the face if the net wasn't there! I think it was kids for a quid/fiver and we had home fans in the Jimmy Seed. I knew it was a goal as soon as the ball was played!
Great vid, loved the green and white shirt kins was wearing, still wear mine when decorating, and I saw myself behind the goal at stockport when oh andy hunt scored a hattrick!! Still got all the copies of the mercury with the valley party results and back to the valley specials.
Dickie, just hope if we do get back to those heights some people will think finishing in the top 13 of the premiereship year in year out is actually bloody amazing and nothing short of a miracle for us, no one ever complains about mid table bordom.... but its football I guess and all the plastics would come crawling out the woodwork once again I guess.... ;-)
Adam, never a truer word spoken. When we were in the Premier I could never understand the people phoning into radio programmes who said Curbs should go because we had just played out a boring draw with someone like Man City. Now we play out boring draws with the likes of Tranmere and I don't hear a word of complaint!
Great vid, not sure about the choice of music though "This ship is sinking, I will turn tail and run" - not exactly the spirit that turned around the ship in the early nineties and gave us those great years!

My favourite Benty goal that one, the way he just completely gases Melchiot - despite the head start against a reasonably quick defender (and former Dutch international) there was only ever one winner in that race.
The other thing that strikes me is how games vs Palace have been a platform for unlikely heroes over the last 10 - 15 years - Kitson, Rommedahl, Forch, Spring, Todorov - none exactly regular goalscorers for us, some barely even regular starters yet all bought themselves a piece of Addicks folklaw with important goals against Palace.
What you'd give for a Mendonca or Hunt out there now over a Dickson or Burton.
Also such a shame to see Rufus in that video, if he was playing in the premiership now at the age he was, not forgetting he was English quick and good in the air.. he would be snapped up for £15m plus I reckon.
Great goal by Jensen against Arsenal. I never forget getting in my car and switching on the radio and hearing "its now Arsenal 1, Charlton Athletic 4"
Great stuff.
Even if we did get back to the premiership it would be all so different. You can't go and become an established club now with £1m "mr versitile" signings and the highest fee ever paid £4.75m. Yeah sure, you could last a season or two like Stoke or Reading have done in the past. Curbishley made us stable, and at one stage before Parker left we was a big threat to the top 6. I remember going to Goodison Park and winning 3-0 Konchesky and Euell scored?? I remember thinking what a better club we was then than Everton and now look at the difference.

Who's the best...?
Only one way to find out...
What went wrong?
Concerned about the end lyrics "This ships sinking"
Hales or Mendonca? Hales in fight obviously but as a finisher?
Should change the title on here.
"Charlton" is a bit vague.
"Charlton video from down the years" would be better.
I remember thinking the same
ggrrrrrrr.....
damn the great fire wall
(youtube is blocked in China....so too is facebook....and twitter)
great video but the words are very close to the truth....
Ah, the Great Fire Wall of China.
Did you know that the Moon is visible from the Great Wall?
Turn Tail-Young Knives
Oh, yes you do!
Or did I imagine the boo-ing and abuse ...?
;o)

Makes me wish we could see the likes of Mendonca, Bent and Kins in a charlton shirt (on the pitch ;)) again.
Quality.
