  • If a talented and prolific starlet like mcleod couldnt hold down a place in our team it's unlikely that an injury prone 33 year old would even get a sniff. If a lesser manager such as Pellegrini doesnt feature him in his plans then it's an absurd notion that Parkinson would even consider him in his winning eleven.

Possibly a back up squad player in case mooney or dickson get a knock but couldnt see him forcing his way in with the plethora of talent we currently have up front.
  • Doesn't this belong in the jokes thread?

PS...I hope no Millsmall or Palarse fans read this thread......... they're gonna get some mileage out of it if they do!!

I was thinking the exact same. They'll read the first post and rush off cackling without noting the dry humour of the rest of the thread. Can't say we wouldn't do the same though!

Can't see him replacing Dickson if I'm honest; we already have a 1 in 2 goalscorer that will do basically nothing else. Sure Van Nistelrooy scores goals, but will he track back? Will he support the midfield? All Nistelrooy does is score an incredible amount of goals, and at this level is that really enough? Parky has honed a side that work hard for each other and we don't want some Dutchman strolling in and thinking he's all that whilst scoring for fun.

No player is bigger than the club. Not even a prolific international goalscorer who is bigger than the club.
  • Someone told me years ago we were signing Alan Simonsen, I didn't believe a word of it!

Is that just a throw away comment March old son, or are you trying to indicate to us there's a chance we could sign Van Nist on £100,000 a week wages.....I do hope not???

I know it was oft quoted that Ruud is a Charlton fan, has it ever been proved? Why is he a Charlton fan? Never really had a satisfactory answer to these questions.

No he's not exactly a fan.
The story goes that in his youth he (or his family), had friends somewhere in SE London/Kent who watched the Addicks (it's never been stated whether they were die hard fans or not)....he joined them on a few occassions.....though that hardly makes him a fan in my book.

I always thought it was a misquote. If he really was a fan there'd surley be no doubts - the media love telling us what teams famous sports people support. Believe me if it was true, you'd have heard it on more than one occasion other than from over hopeful Charlton fans.
  • You got me Soundas: considering what happened with and after Simonsen, I wouldn't want anything like that to happen ever again!! (:-)
  • Hamburg have announced that they have signed Ruud van Nistelrooy on a one-and-a-half-year contract from Real Madrid.

Alternatively, Lewis Coaches, is still confident that he'd rather play for Charlton for nothing in The Engilsh 3rd division, now known as League 1, as long as Charlton agree not to pay him.
