  • In the old First Division at Selhurst Park when we were 0-3 down at home to Millwall left with about 20 mins left missed a fourth goal by them being dis-allowed. Think that is one of only two occasions I have left early though.
  • Leeds at 2 nil down

spurs at home when we got relegated left as soon as they scored their 1st
  • The earliest I've tried to leave was an Anglo-Italian cup game at The Valley years back. We were at home to one of the Italian teams, hoping someone might be able to help me here, Ancona maybe? Pretty sure they played in black and white. Anyway it was absolutely baltic and I seem to remember our keeper (possibly Mike Salmon) letting in a Thorsdvedt type goal through his hands.

I'd just had enough and was absolutely frozen. Went to the gates at half time to go home but everything was shut and there wasn't a soul about to let me out so had to go back to my seat an endure the second half. Not pleasant.
  • iv only ever left 1 game early, brenford this yr, left at half time but only because I had to be in manchester by 7, and had promised I wouldnt go to the game so I wouldnt be late, which of course I was
  • This year against ??? on 80mins to get the train to Wembley for a England game, or more importantly catch up with my mates who already drinking at Charing Cross. other than that I have never left early.

brentford that would've been TCE, did the same without the leaving early bit to drink at Kings X
  • Chelsea after about 25 minutes of the "beach" game. The joke bounce of the ball made a mockery of the contest and we left when the third goal bounced in and went back to the pub cursing all and sundry. By the time we left Fulham Broadway at 8pm we had forgotten all about Chelsea.
  • at upton park when we lost 3 zip to grimsby, home in swanley before the game had finished.

Mendonca must have scored the lot!
  • I've left loads of games early but the one that sticks was Leeds away a few years back-they were rock bottom and had already been relegated and we were on our annual end of season 15 game run without a win. We'd travelled all that way but were so pissed off when they went 3-1 up after an hour that the five of us got up and left. By the time we got to the burger van about half a mile from the ground, Euell hadscored twice and it was 3-3. And we ended up getting the same train home as everyone else. Missed all that for one extra pint, not the smartest move.

For the poster who said he'd never leave a Premiership game before full time-are you sure? Some of those games in the latter half of the season were horrible and the fact we were in a good league didn't make them any easier to sit through.

  • I rocked up on 82 minutes for Preston at home a couple of years ago, the 8 minutes I saw were terrible! I only went because I hadn't missed a home game for a few years and was going up the O2 for the Haye v Macca fight that night.

The earliest I've left was last season I went about 5 minutes into the second half of a particular stinker, but I think I was DJ'ing that night anyway
  • Nothing "loyal" about hanging on til the death in a 0-5 defeat. Also nothing "hard" about bowling out early.

Do what you want to do.
  • Colchester this season after 87 minutes is the earliest I've left a game. This was so I could get out of their stadium's poxy car park and onto the A12 without spending an hour on their pathetic access road, as I did on the way in. I easily made it back to Romford in time for several consoling pints, as the road was clear because all the carrot crunchers were still celebrating their deserved victory.
  • Southend at home in 1995 - 3-0 down after an hour and went to the pub.

Southampton at Selhurst in 1989 - 4-1 down after an hour, went home.

If we are three goals down at home then I am out of there, I can't stand watching the oppo fans taking the piss.

The only exception to this was when Liverpool beat us 4-0 at Selhurst in 1990, I watched that till the end because they were so good to watch, especially future Addick John Barnes.
  • A 5-2 defeat at nottm forest (1997?), we were on a silver service meal package at the ground, we watched the 1st half from our seats and by half-time, charlton were about three goals down.
We went into the restaurant/bar for our half time drinks and stayed there for the rest of the game. They were showing it on tv screens, but we didn't really watch it, just continued drinking and we saw/spoke to steve jones in the bar too (cant remember why he wasn't playing that day, poss injured)
  • I recall a Charlton v Leyton Orient friendly game was abandoned after 5 minutes. I left as soon as it was called off - so 5 mins, I guess.
  • Left pretty early when wet spam thumped us 5 zip on boxing day at upton park. If I remember rightly it was bloody freezing that day as well.
  • That Leicester 70's game for me too: left at half time with my Mum & Dad; I thought we were 0-4 at that stage but I could be wrong. Not only were we awful, but it was fooking freezing!
  • HT - Watford away in the Prem when we were 2-0 down at HT (and came back 2nd half)
More to do with the fact I was surrounded by idiots and had the taste for more beer!!
  • huddersfield at home 1957, i left when we were 5-1 down with 25 mins. to go. i still do not how many more they got.

  • What Stone said on the previous page...Sheff Utd last season. I think we left at the same time. I was home in Swanley before the final whistle blew
  • Is it only left of your own accord ? ;-)

Voluntarily, I've always stayed to the end...

Involuntarily, I once got kicked out without even reaching the terraces for chasing some away fans through the car park, I wouldn't have minded but I actually paid the adult price to get in that day because of the queues...
  • left when we got tonked by liverpool 4-0 at selhurst we left at 3-0 rosenthal hatrick, not really my choice I was with my dad.. and away at spurs when we got done 5-1 I think... we left 10 mins left... rubbish we were that day, absolute rubbish...
