Seventh Son is so bad it very, very nearly gets right back around to good again... but falls short. Clichéd plot, dodgy effects, poor performances (Jeff Bridges is particularly awful sadly), only blessing is it was short. Absolute dreck.
I heard or read a review that described Bridges' voice as "talking like he's permanently got peanut butter stuck to the roof of his mouth." which was spot-on.

He sounds like a man doing an awful impression of Tom Hardy in Dark Knight Rises... whilst drunk. There were a few lines that were literally unintelligible, it was terrible.
This is the story of an Australian man who travels to Turkey after the Battle of Gallipoli , to try and locate his three missing sons . There are many things wrong with The Water Diviner. The racial stereotyping , The distracting love interest of even the fact that the main character beats up group of rebels with a cricket bat but do you know what ?. I still enjoyed this despite it's faults. Russell crow has a lot to learn about being a director but he still has it when it comes to acting.
John Wick. Retired assassin John Wick seeks his revenge against the Russian mafia. Stylish with some substance and a body count that makes all the Taken films look like an episode of Casualty. 7/10.
Logic should say that the more i watch Jason Statham action movies the more i would get fed up of them but strangely enough i'm beginning to like them more and more. Wild Card is about a Las Vegas bodyguard who gets caught up with the mob and he deals with them in the only way he knows how. Firstly this film looks great. The action scenes are fantastic and they remind me a lot of the scenes filmed in Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrells . Lots of slow motion then sped up action . There is one superb scene in a hotel room where he takes on a mobster and his two henchmen that is brilliantly shot. Secondly there is more to this film than just action. Statham gets to show that he really can act . Very enjoyable.

On the advice of this thread I watched Next Goal Wins on Sky earlier this afternoon.
Brilliant, simply brilliant.
Watched this on Saturday with the missus. 'Not a bloody football film' she said, and to be fair, I nearly gave it the elbow as I found the first 20 or so minutes a bit slow. Thank God I stayed with it, terrific film and Jay is an inspiration. I think they're my favourite national team now.
Fast and Furious 7 is exactly what you'd expect another instalment in the F&F franchise to be: loud cars, beautiful women, ridiculous stunts and a bunch of steroidal macho men growling at each other. To be honest it really is great fun and doesn't try to set out a stall as an artistic film at all, it does what it does very well and I enjoyed it greatly. You get Jason Statham, Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel in one cast together and you know what you're going to get, and you get it.
The death of Paul Walker is acknowledged and there is a tribute at the very end that is very moving, and clearly heartfelt.

8/10.
My two sons went to see it yesterday and they really liked it too.
Jennifer Aniston is excellent as chronic pain sufferer Claire Bennett . This woman is not just experiencing physical pain but mental too .Despite the solemn subject matter i found this quite uplifting. Aniston pulls of her best performance to date. As a chronic back pain sufferer myself i appreciate how debilitating it can be and she makes it look like she really is in pain even down to the movements ( or lack of them ) that she makes and also how grumpy it can make you. There are good performances also from Sam Worthington and Adriana Barraza.
Went with my 2 sons to see the fast & the furious 7 the other day, they loved it, some of the action scenes are nuts, you know what you're getting, a good leave your brain at the door movie.

8.5 out of 10 for me.
Took 2 of my boys to see this. Agree with your summary. It's actually quite nice to watch a film and not have to think about it. Fast cars, testosterone fueled, hot woman and OTT action scenes. What's not to like?!
John Wick. Retired assassin John Wick seeks his revenge against the Russian mafia. Stylish with some substance and a body count that makes all the Taken films look like an episode of Casualty. 7/10.
Saw this a while back, I liked it as well, looks excellent and some good action sequences. Shame it appears to have been given a bit of a soft launch in the UK.
There have been many good submarine films over the years . Hunt For Red October , U-571 and Crimson Tide to name but a few but sadly Black Sea isnt fit enough to lace Das Boots of these films. Jude Law stars is a Scot with a slightly dodgy accent , who gets together a band of men , half British , half Russian , to retrieve Nazi gold from a sunken U-Boat. The film starts well with the recruiting of the men and shows signs of promise but when the submarine sets off, that is when not only the crew starts to experience problems but the viewer does too. Everything that happens is far too predictable. The characters are cliched and in the end you couldn't care less what happens to any one of them. There is also an underlying story about how they were duped into the trip which i found completely unnecessary and slightly confusing.
Whiplash. Jazz drummer aspires to be the best and is picked for the school jazz band by a tough band conductor played by JK Simmons ( reminded me of his character in Oz, Vernon Schillinger, equally nasty! ). Well worth seeing.
I have absolutely no idea how true to life Good Kill is , as i know nothing about the Drone programme in the US but if it is remotely ( no pun intended) like what actually happens then i'm totally gobsmacked . I found this disturbing. Do the American's really recruit people , some for their expertise on the X-Box , to blow up Afghanistan citizens on a probability factor that they may or may not be Taliban ? I Bloody hope not. Ethan Hawke is superb as the troubled Drone Pilot as is the gorgeous January Jones who plays his wife . I think this one is going to stay with me for some time.
As usual, a little behind on the new stuff as we "acquire" our online entertainment, but anyone who prefers a more thoughtful flick, then, "The Lunchbox" is lovely, though the subtitles were oddly interpreted.
Saw 'Home' with my daughter the other day. Some good laugh out loud moments for her - usually involving some sort of toilet humour (that's my girl!) She roared with laughter at the line "I was so scared I nearly made a number three!" However, it was no more than ok. Not a bad film to take your kids to, but could have been better. Jim Parsons plays his character 'Oh' pretty much like Sheldon from Big Bang Theory in that he constantly misunderstands simple human actions. Rihanna is pretty good as the girl and Steve Martin carries the incompetent boss character 'Smek' well enough. It's silly, funny at times and easy to watch, so a nice couple of hours with your kids. My daughter was very clear that she thought the Spongebob movie was better though!

I watched Home in a cinema that caters for English, Arabic and French viewers, so there were arabic and french subtitles. Now the main character's name is "Gratuity, or 'Tip' for short", but in the french subtitles, it said her name was "Aperitif, or 'Tif' for short". I thought this was interesting, but it makes sense as the word play is carried through. However, it made me wonder because Jim Parson's character speaks english in a slightly incorrect way, grammatically speaking (eg "It should to hover better now" and "Boovs do not dancing"), and this made me wonder if this was translated into french too. My french isn't good enough to be able to notice grammatical oddities on subtitles!
Hardly the latest so I hope that you don't mind me bringing up an older film that I saw on TV recently? I haven't found any other reference on this thread.
Released in 2011, God Bless America is shocking, not in the Kick Ass class but shocking all the same. I found it darkly amusing and imagined myself in the main character's role. I am sure that many of us have had similar fantasies at some time, or am I just a sicko?
Anybody who loathes the modern TV celebrity culture is likely to find some areas of empathy. Anybody else seen this film?

Have a watch of this by John Oliver on the US drone programme. As usual from him it's funny but higlights some frightening stories about the methods.

Woman in Gold - I really enjoyed this. It's a great story anyway, but was not sure how it would come across on film - the trailer didn't seem too impressive.
I shouldn't have been concerned as it works extremely well.

Yes i'm an avid watcher of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and did see that. It's extremely worrying.
I wonder how program's like this and Jon Stewart (big fan of both by the way) would have dealt with the fire bombing raids we launched against German cities in WW2 killing tens of thousands innocent civilians?
