Last night it was "The Best Offer" Superbly shot, with a great cast (excluding a very wooden and slightly cheesey Jim Sturgess) and a stand out performance by Geoffrey Rush playing the eccentric and very bent Auctioneer Virgil Oldman. Well worth a look and like me, you'll be surprised at how good the film turns out to be......8/10
Now that you mentioned it,hopefully I'll get around to watching this film soon.Been looking forward to it for some time but lost interest when I read a few poor reviews...
I was reluctant myself, but read a few good reviews on IMBd and thought, what the hell, and gave it a try.
Given the above appraisal of Now Is Good, Jessie, you might be on to something there...
My feelings on this are based on association and how people deal with the death of loved ones, maybe I should have made that clear before your snidey remark.
Wasn't meant to be snidey. More blatant - it struck me as mawkish at best. But if you liked it, you win!
Felt the same way as Jessie about Atonement though, that was a pleasant surprise.
Saw PRISONERS last night. Loved it. Really tense thriller. Fantastic performances, a well crafted plot and a slow, deliberate and patient shooting style. It's The Lovely Bones without the bull****. (starring Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Terrence Howard, Maria Bello, Paul Dano)
not sure if already been mentioned but both films Star Trek Into Darkness (Wrath of Khan) and Man of Steel (Superman II) are reboots (not just reimaginings) of widely acclaimed original sequels, while I love the originals and the new ones are good I felt a bit short changed by that
That's (partly) true of STID, but not really Man of Steel.
MoS was based on comic book characters. That Superman II used the same characters is coincidence, for want of a better word. I didn't feel short changed because they used the same characters, but because the film was shit.

!!!!! I saw the trailer three months ago and absolutely loved it!!!!! Great to know that the film turned out to be equally fantastic.Defintely on top of my must-watch list now. Thanks for sharing.
Blue Jasmin last night....should have come with a public health warning and a pack of razor blades. Well acted yes, detestable main character yes (and I love Cate) Vaucous and self obbsessed, yes. Entertaining....No. Definetly not my cup of tea.

I have never watched Blue Jasmin but I know what you are talking about.Vaucous and self-obbsessed is exactly how I would describe another Woody Allen film:Midnight in Paris.I simply don't understand why it got soooo much praise???....If it was not for Marion Cotillard,I defintely wouldn't have bothered finishing watching that film.

I cant say Im a fan of WA myself.....I had to laugh as I had the tickets in my wallet for Elysium which was in cinema 6 a few weeks back....I got the tickets out to show the young lad and accidentally gave him the Elysium stubs, so we dutifully went and sat in Cinema 6.....wondered why there were a lot of kids in the audience for a 7pm showing of an adult themed film (half term here)...the trailers end, the film starts and it was "Planes" We swiftly got up and went to Cinema 9 for Blue Jasmin.....I now wish we had stayed in cinema 6......Im sure it was far more entertaining! :-)
I went and saw The Call on Saturday, staring Halle Berry, Not a bad film and was unusual in the fact that when any of the violent & bloody scenes occurred at went all slow motion/cut away so not to show it all (it is a 15 so not sure if they wanted it to be a 12 or not an 18). Also had a bit of an unexpected ending...............

Lol....How was Elysium then?
I enjoyed Elysium.....I did a small quote about it a few pages back :-)
I saw "What if we all lived together" 2011 French Film (with subtitles) with Jane Fonda and Geraldine Chaplin...thoroughly enjoyable with a few really good laughs. Was blown away at how fit Jane looked for a 75year old....Worth a look 7/10
Most of us have heard of the name Linda Lovelace , some of us have even seen Deep Throat ( not me of course ) but the story behind the woman is quite tragic.
Not all that new, but I saw Sightseers on DVD a couple of days ago. bleak dark British comedy about caravanning. I can't recommend it enough. Thought it was just about perfect.

I would be interested to hear people's opinions of Sam Raimi's The Quick And The Dead ?
Personally I enjoyed it, close to perfect production wise albeit not the most elaborate or deep narrative. I thought it was quite an interesting film with quite a nice exploration of expressionism in some parts. The film is pretty much way of seeing what would happen if you gave a Western film to a horror director, as seen with the gothic nature of some of the miss-en-scene and the cinematography.

It was exactly what I expected the director of the Evil Dead films to do with a Western. Embraces the B-movie shlock, cartoony characters, special effects that are knowing in their lack of conviction... I mean it is certainly never going to be as good as The Searchers, or Unforgiven. But for what it is, it's pretty good.

Sam Raimi was disappointed with it, something he's been willing to admit. Apparently that had big script problems/ disagreements throughout the shoot, and the studio were nervous about what Raimi was doing. He got Joss Whedon in to tidy up the ending of the movie, and liked him so much he lamented "We should have got this guy in to rewrite the whole movie and save this picture!"

Some of the Lab scenes at the end with Peter Capaldi were filmed in Sandwich
