And Misery!! Funny thing is, if there's one person whose opinion on Stephen King adaptations I don't take remotely seriously, it's Stephen King. He hates the good ones and loves the bad ones.
Also, anyone ever see the TV movie adaptation of The Langoliers? The CGI pac-man things were hilarious. Sometimes King's mind is best left on the page.
IT looks good. As much as Tim Curry nailed Pennywise, it was a fairly cheap TV miniseries so the movie is very welcome.
Sadly, it sounds like Dark Tower might be going a bit wrong. The studio may have bottled it.
I thought the new version looked a bit shite. Curry's Pennywise is terrifying, the new one looks a bit too polished. Hopefully the new version will have the end sorted out. Always pissed me off.
The ending was poor ( but true to the book ) . If you want to see a fantastic ending to a Stephen King adapted film watch The Mist . Just Brilliant
Saw dunkirk yesterday, I liked it, mrs says it was ok. Good mix of themes from land, sea and air and gripping at times. One of those films you were glad you saw, but wouldnt buy the dvd.

I see Stephen King and switch off....cant remember anything he has done that was even vaguely good to be honest.
Apart from The Shining , Shawshank Redemption , The Green Mile , Misery , Carrie , Stand By Me and The Mist what has Stephen King ever done for us....
Both the Shawshank and Green Mile were adaptions of Novellas Stephen King wrote and re-wriiten for the screen by others and both very good films...so some credit given...the rest are bleh...opinions are like Arseholes Mr Bedsaddick...we all have them, and I really have tried to "like" his books but failed. The TV series IT was awful.....
I tried to read one of his books once but got very bored very quickly. Obviously they appeal to a lot of readers but it would appear they aren't for me. Did he write the screenplay for any of the films or TV series? If not, credit can go to him for the ideas and overall story but the success or not of the films must be put largely at the door of the people who made them.
Watched Valerian the other day. Was better than I thought it would and plenty of action and some interesting characters. Plot is a bit bizarre in places but worth sticking with and Rihanna's multiple costume changes is one of the high points and worth seeing.

He didn't write many screenplays from his books but I do know he wrote the ones for Creepshow and Pet Semetery- Both of which weren't great films.

Ditto
I always enjoyed reading @CharltonMadrid' s views about Brexit from the point of view of an expat living in the EU (as I enjoy reading the comments from all the posters living abroad) and I always enjoyed his regular insights into Spanish football and in particular about the "other" clubs in Madrid. I was really looking forward to his comments about Athletico Madrid's first season in their new stadium. Now, as a result of your nasty trolling this forum has lost a respected poster. The forum is diminished as a result.

any chance you can both take this elsewhere? we do not want another thread closed.

Agreed it is completely irrelevant to THIS thread.

The Mist was a decent film, but a far better book. Carrie both old and new versions are awful. The rest are spot on.
Pet Cemetary was ok at the time. Not sure if it has aged well though. And don't get me started on The Mist. That felt more like a made-for-TV movie. And the ending wound me right up! Would like to see Richard Bachmans The Regulators turned into a movie too. One of my favourite King books.

Pet Cemetery has aged worse than Haley Joel Osment. I remember laughing quite a bit the last time I saw it.
The Mist has the one of the ballsiest endings in the history of Hollywood! It's not fun to watch but damn you have to respect what they did.

I'm interested too see how they handle the ending in the new film. I guess it worked well in the book.
Not seen The Mist, sounds a lot like John Carpenters, The Fog.

There is a similarity, but they're not particularly alike thematically. The Mist is way better IMO.
Saw Dunkirk last night, glad we went to the cinema to see it too, the wife and I are definitely fans. She would like to know whether the ending is based on a known actual event. Dont want to invite a spoiler but if anyone has a link to a source ( @JiMMy 85 ?) which deals with this sort of question.
I think @Bedsaddick has summed it up, when he says he has been thinking about it for days after. Here we are, looking for the background to what we have seen, and I was slightly ashamed that I could not immediately answer all of my wife's questions. As a Czech she appreciated the portrayal of British stoicism, (tea, bread and jam) and of course the Spitfire has a special place in Czech hearts.

If you are talking about the train ride home, my understanding is that the film portrayed events fairly accurately.
I loved the book Pet Semetary, and I was horrified what a mess they made of it in the film. The Lawnmower Man was another of those. I used to read everything Stephen King wrote, but sadly I have moved away.

As TellyTubby says, the reception of the soldiers was based on actual events, but the specific people depicted were not - and that includes who I think you're alluding to, whom we last saw on the beach. That was not based on an actual event. I checked straight after the film myself!

The Pet Cemetary storyline is great. Probably worth a remake, maybe even rename it. It's very dark story, however Fred Gwynne doesn't fill you with terror.

Interesting stuff, I was under the impression that the nation was treating Dunkirk as a victory and the soldiers as heros which is why Churchill made his famous speech reminding everyone that it wasn't and, you know, calm it down a bit.

Give ID2, London Heist & Great Wall a swerve
From the trailer it looked embarrassing enough to steer clear of!!

Good film to watch in 3D.

It doesn't touch on that character, but this is a decent summary of the accuracy of events.
