Bent on his way....

  • I think he'd fit it in at Arsenal

    :)
  • Im so disappointed in the whole season..... to not see Daren legging it towards the crowd any more is gonna be awful..... what a total balls up this season has been.... I know there wasnt alot else we could have done... just a shame Dowie had as much talent as he has looks.......

rubbish... bad start to the day... it will dent the team as well as he is obviously the biggest player in th squad....
  • As has been said - every player has his price, but we must get the best possible price and have time to re-invest wisely before the window closes. But not to West Ham at any price.
  • Selling Bent now would not only demolalise the team who were just beginning to find their feet, but also discourage any potential good midfielders from joining us.
I don't agree that he would be worth any less at the end of the season even if we were relegated, than he is at the moment playing for a team certain of relegation according to most pundits.
The fans have been assured by Murray, Varney, Pards and even Bent himself that he will be going nowhere until the end of the season. Of course they knew that there was always a possibility that he would miss some games through injury at some stage, when they made their comments.
Just for once this season the board should be true to their word and hold onto him until the end of the season.
We needed to sign another striker in any case, so the new guy will have to play alongside big Bent instead of Baby Bent for five/six weeks. A fit and revitalised Bent returning to the team in Feb would be a massive boost to the club and may just keep us up.
  • Agreed... their saying that BECAUSE he has a five week injury we are now prepared to sell.... well if we can get the cash, and we can, at the end of the season then surely we need a new striker anyway... I know the board would have to hold onto there balls a bit longer and give us best chance of staying up... with darren bent is the answer.....
  • nice points QA
  • Its a big gamble anyway cos new strikers might not gel for a while, if we sell Bent we are basically accepting relegation in my view.
  • And its all over the bloody news.... just what they wanted .. itll be a bidding war....... you can imagine the agents ringing everyone right now......

    RUBBISH
  • bidding War? Great News! Chelski might Bid 20mil just so no one else gets him.
  • might just happen, you never know, what with their apparent failed recent signings..

  • devastated if he goes.

    Arsenal
    Man Yoo
    Liverpool

the only 3 clubs I can tolerate him going to.
  • thought you hate scousers?
  • The good news is i have 400% more confidence and belief in Pards than the people before him.... Im trying to build my trust..... again....

Also of note is that he has been 'allowed' to bring in his own guy in Parkinson , used to work with him at Reading, sdomething hich was not afforded Dowie ....
  • As much as i'd like to keep him even if we were currentrly sitting nicely in the top half there would still b this story, we will always b a selling club, its sad but its the way it is, every1 has their price, personally i wouldn't sell him unless a silly bid came in, in the 18mill kinda mould. Rather keep him till the summer and then IF (yes still a big if) we go down let him go for 12mill, infact even if we stay up he's still gonna go, and who could blame him

but under no circumstance can we sell him to west ham, thats just farsical, b like man u selling roony and ronaldo to chelsea

I wouldnt want him anywhere other than charlton... its gonna be heartbreaking... total opposite to Parker..... we loved him and he was immense BUT when he went he did go he did in such a way that we hate him deep down.... as for Benty well he blody brillaint and I think we all love him......
  • Although I said earlier that every player has his price. let's look at this practically.

In January we only have one game that we can expect to win - Middlesborough, even if we bring in a new striker he won't have gelled by that time. The next meaningful game is against West Ham on 24th Feb. Now Benty is expected to be back in 4 weeks, allowing for mishaps the West Ham game is a full eight weeks after his injury. - so why the panic Mr Pardew?

    Or am I missing something?
  • was gutted bout scotty goin, althou did have little grin cos he'd agreed (and bought a new porsche with the signing on bonus) a 2.7mill move to the yids, only for them to pull out of it, 10mill thank you very much (althou still think was worth more)

Its the board that are panicking..... they know they need the money and arent prepared to hold on to there nuts til end of the season......(IMO)
  • Was out in the car earlier and Hawkesby and Jacobs on Talksport think the whole Bent thing very strange and almost implied that his injury is a put up job.

Something along the lines of why say you're keeping a player when he's fit but sell him when he's injured.

I reckon Bent will go to West Ham for Harewood and possibly Mullins.
  • how is the injury a put up job, they are plums on that show.

Bent was clearly buggered for a lot of that Villa game

  • I think Pardew's just trying to gain the initiative - look at the way we've had players prized away from us in the past.

Something tells me Bent will still be with us in a few weeks.
  • Could be a warning shot, don't bother with stupid valuations.. who's going to bid 12-14m for Bent? Just tells the spurs, boros, hammers to get lost..??
  • I am not one of these 'if he goes to Spurs I'll chuck in my ST'

BUT IF HE GOES TO SPURS I WILL CHUCK IN MY SEASON TICKET

(However if Lisbie goes to Spurs I'll buy 4)
  • Len Glover - because if he's going to be out for 4 weeks (maybe more who knows) then why not sell him, and use the money to buy 3-4 players who will be able to play every week rather than cling on to the hope 1 man can save us.
If he was fit there'd be no issue and he wouldn't be for sale but as he's injured we might get rid and strenghten the side.

    Chris,

I see that point but surely our problem is that we lack quality so why sell one of the few bits of quality we have got?

We don't lack quality, we have the quality. This is one of the best squads in terms of quality we have ever had at Charlton we just need to get them playing together. Something that i believe Pards can and will do.

really? i think every department needs work, whereas i'm sure last season we only needed a midfielder, and the season before only a striker, and season before a defender.

we need someone in every dept now! don't see how its the best quality squad we've ever had?
  • ok, perceived quality...
