  • what?!
  • I know, what the fcuk we gonna do without him
  • Same old story with us isn't it

Top player signs a new contract , board/manager say he's going nowhere , player says himself he's staying loves it here . Then just before the FA cup starts the player gets an' injury 'and then we sell him for fuck all

    Football is bollocks
  • It does make financial sense to get the best price now than wait until we are relegated otherwise we are going to be in serious doo doo if not.
  • We are skint and need to fund transfers from somewhere. In the summer when we got Diawara they said we'd dipped into next seasons transfer budget. Since then we've had to pay off Dowie and Reed so we need money from somewhere. However selling Bent now will be admitting we're down so i doubt he'll go.
Don't see how Bent can go if he's injured anyway?
  • They say he can go for the right price......what is the right price?
  • he'll still end up our top scorer for the season
  • there wouldn't, would they?
  • It is a minor injury - if he is injured at all.
  • Pards has said he'll sell for the right price according to Sky

  • Spurs have had a £7m bid rejected apparently but i don't know about the "open to offers" stance. that being said, if someone bid £12m i'd take it
  • We have a poor team - the only way to quickly turn that around is to spend money, but Dowie has already burnt two shedloads of cash for us.

So selling Darren is understandable in that context - I hope he stays, but would understand it if we could bank £10M from his sale - that means selling for £12M+ since Ipswich get 15% and then there are agents etc.

If there is any truth in this it is very disappointing that it gets out on Sky, presumably this coming from inside Spurs. What we may have said to interested clubs is "get real or get lost, our price is £12M, nothing less".

This would of course explain all the other signings we are being linked with.
  • Spurs make me laugh. Like a kid in a sweet shop with a fiver. They've already got Defoe, Keane, Mido and Berbatov, probably the strongest four in the premier put together.

He has probably said every player has a price, which isn't the same as saying Dazza is leaving.

I would have thought Newcastle would be the most likely to offer £12M.
  • West Ham?
  • there is nothing new here guys, all our players are for sale at the right price, and always have been for all the time i have been following Charlton.

I think we intended to keep Darren until the summer, and then offload, and i think he is happy with that.

However, we were taking this approach as we needed him for the rest of the season. If he is going to be injured for half of it, it may make sense to deal now and get the guaranteed funds in.

Not saying its the right approach, but its just a view. #

We will always be a selling club. There are only about 10 clubs in the world who are not.
  • Does anyone really think we can turn down 10 - 12 mill for a player that cost 2.5 mill?We could sign 3 or 4 players with that, and about the injury....i can assure you it's not that bad.

i think it is that bad when considering he is our top scorer and our next highest scorer is a player who has been injured for a lot of the season and only has 2 goals...
  • how can you assure us browny?
  • Agree with AKFA here, our top players will always go to bigger clubs. Just need to get the best price we can. I don't agree with it as i personally think we should wait until the summer but if selling him for 12m, (10m to us and 2m to Ipswich) means we can spend 10m on 3-4 new players then long term that's probably the best way forward for us.

  • Just seen Pards on SSN, and he made the same point as AFKA, that if he's injuried, and out, we need to replace him, and if we can cash in now, Pards can get the business done.

Not perfect, but I understand the thinking
  • He's going to go anyway (and we'll probably go down whether he stays or not) so we may as well cash in now at the best price and hope that we can get someone decent in.
  • I just find it very strange and coincidental that he gets injured at the beginning of the transfer window
  • sell for 12m and replace him with Collins John and Anthony Stokes who between them could score enough to keep us in the Prem or if not get us out of the Fizzy Pop league next season. Realistically we wouldn't be able to hold onto Benty beyond the summer and maybe it's right to maximise our profit now. I'm happy to see him further his career and if he goes wish him well as long as it's not to Spudz or WestHam. That'll do him no good. Gotta be Liverpool,Arsenal,Chelsea or Utd. Anywhere else is a step sideways for him.
  • my fear is we'll use his current injury for accepting a low bid.

    remember Ipswich's cut as well.....

Horrible feeling we're not going to come out of this well. We've bought too high and sold too low for years, we have to get this one right.
  • Anyone who wouldn't take £12M+ would be crazy. As long as Pardew gets £8M of that plus any money from the sale of Diawara/JFH and one or two will go, he'll bring in 3-4 players who may help us strengthen in all areas to give us a better chance of staying up. If we don't stay up at least he will have a chance to blood the new boys this season in readiness for a proper promotion push next year. The more I think about it, it would be daft not to deal now and bring in some better quality players in a few areas. He would be going soon anyway and has done us proud whilst he has been with us.
  • Large Addick - how would a move to Spurs be a step sideways for him? They're going to be a consistent top 6-7 club for years whereas we'll be in the league below?
  • what we shouldnt do is sell before we have a replacement lined up, as with Murphy and Parker. We'll get just as good money for him in the summer.

    and before the fa cup
  • Exactly the same thing happended with Parker
