  • Not you nolly. I meant that bag-of-nuts chap....

Thats the first time i've EVER heard crowd noise being "disproportionally loud due to the acoustics". You've got to ask yourself a) how often he sits in the Jimmy Seed stand, b) where he got his masters in architecture and sonics, and c) is Six-a-bag-of-nuts infact Brian Eno?

Thought that might amuse you Harpo.
Think what you like but there are threads on here about fans asking the club to move away fans out of the JS Stand.
You make us look bad, don't you know.
Well, some do. Not you lot.

It's a f**king toilet of a stand, but not because of how it might sound. It's at such an angle that if there's anything going on from the byline to about 6/7 yards in, you can't see anything. And if the noise can't be heard arond the rest of the ground - and believe me, there was a lot of noise in that stand yesterday - then if i was Charlton, i'd be inclined to want away supporters to stay in there. If it's a sh*t view for away fans (...which it plainly is) and it generates no atmosphere (...which by all accounts it doesnt), let them stay there!

As well as bottles thrown in the Upper North, the other thing that came flying over my head was a crutch!?!

A f**king crutch for god's sake?! Some idiot prick with a dodgy leg had to limp all the way home as the stewards took the thing away!

Groucho. Your lot were very quiet and our lot were at times too.

As far as acoustics go (and I have a diploma in audio engineering don't you know), the fact the Jimmy Seed is such an enclosed and tight space would make the sound of your lot appear louder in comparison to the openess of the Upper North where we were most likely making an equal amount of noise decibels-wise, but the power off the sound is lost because of said openess.

You see, it's all to do with 'Standing Waves', whereby a sound wave will travel back on itself after hitting an obstacle (in this case the close confines of the Jimmy Seed Stand), and where the wave hits itself the noise is amplified due to the harmonics being increased by 'X'. As the North Upper is so open, there is no where for the waves to travel back on themselves, therefore they don't reinforce and amplify themselves.

Ergo, we both made equal sound, it's just that your lot appeared to be louder. Simple really. Right?

That's a bit rich coming from the supporter of a club that used to stick away fans behind a floodlight pylon.

Your ground on the other hand is just great. No, really, it is.

  • Millwall noise was pony yesterday - very dissapointing bearing in mind it was the biggest game you're going to have for some time to come.

"no one likes you, 'cos your scum " and you proved it yesterday in all ways possible - on the basis that you (Groucho) can read, write, log on and to some extent articulate yourself, why would you want to associate yourself with that bunch of absolute wasters ? Scum - all of you. I was laughing at some prick in the Royal Standard after who was arguing that he should be allowed a real glass and not a plastic version on the basis that he could kill someone with or without the glass ! Millwall are total two bob scum.
  • Yes a lucozade bottle was thrown at the Millwall bloke who scored the fourth, and that was out of order...no excuses from me.
As for the sound of the support, all away fans say they don't hear us, and i agree it's because the design of the stands let our stuff float away, and the away fans have their stuff bounced back....but take it from me Charlton fans were pretty sustained and loud for long periods...unexpectedly, and the Millwall fans were pretty quiet for long periods...unexpectedly.
As for the stand being useless, well it is a stand left over from before we even left the Valley, and sightlines may be restricted....however compared to when I used to get crushed into the corner behind the pylon at the old Den (a ground and asset surrendered meekly by the Millwall faithful) our away provision for the Millwall fans is five star.
  • but hang on they are a cult club with the most passionate fans you will ever see anywhere....

the ones that pee me off the most are the glory-hunters, not following them for any footballing glory or with any local connections but there solely for the glorification of violence

cowards the lot of them, very easy to be the hard man when there are hundreds of like-minded neanderthals there to back you up
  • I was just happy not to have my throat cut and to still find my windscreen in one piece. . .

I went christmas shopping in Gillingham yesterday !!!!

    Millwall? Pish.
  • [cite] P_Air[/cite] As well as bottles thrown in the Upper North, the other thing that came flying over my head was a crutch!?!

    What the?????

Where did it come from and who was it aimed at?
  • I honestly didn't hear a peep from Millwall till the final minute, with the usual SCCCCCUUUUM MIIIIIIIIII.
  • I was near the half way line in the East and Millwall were louder for much of the time, standing waves or not. They kep the support going most of the time and I don't think one of them left before the end, whereas we still had enough who needed to get away. And to play compete for the second half with ten, fair enough.

But along with that you get the bloke who decided to give a right hander to a bloke in his 50s coming back from the bog, and give him a kick for good measure when he was done. Groucho, you have plenty of those and all that 'we fear no foe' on the back of the shirts is part of the problem.

Agree that we gave the Millwall in home areas an easy ride. In the cup game a couple of years ago, Brentford fans were getting taken out for standing up, whereas Millwall were jumping over the barriers onto the ttrack only to be helped back in by stewards. Massive double standards. And if the Jimmy Seed wasn't way overcrowded I'll show by backside in Cuffs for a week.
  • I saw someone come in on crutches.

    Fact.
  • how anyone can say that south stand was not overcrowded is beyond me.
  • I didn’t go yesterday and yes it was because we were playing Millwall.
Pubs not open, threats from chavs in and around the ground, also traveling on public transport isn’t the most enjoyable event at this time of year let alone with these morons from Millwall. I don’t need or want it.

To me football is more than just 90 minutes, it’s a social event where I can meet my friends, have a beer amongst like minded people and watch a game of football without the macho posturing of the inadequate.
Did some shopping in the West End instead.

Well I'm mid-way up Block G in N.U, so anywhere in G or the near side of H! Frikkin bizarre. It was when the 2 scummers in the NW were not getting chucked out, a few bottles came over followed by a crutch!

PS. Groucho, why are spending so much time on a website your team don't care about ?
  • [cite]Posted By: BrentfordAddick[/cite]I was near the half way line in the East and Millwall were louder for much of the time

So what did you and your chums in the East Stand do then Brentford ? Get on it, make some noise and be heard or sit there and do nothing ?
  • Gutted we didn't win playing against 10 men. But in reality a draw was the most that we deserved. A couple of times the Jimmy Seed stand was loud, but not as much as I remember from the '70s.

As expected there were pockets of Millwall dotted around the East Stand. And they were cetrainly in the Sky box and the one next to it. Personally those in the boxes didn't cause me any bother, though it could easily have kicked off if we had a more raucous crowd in the East. More of a concern was the venom spewed out by Millwall supporters amongst Charlton supporters. The stewards were ineffective, and I wouldn't be surprised if there was fighting out the back of the East stand around the time of our penalties. The youngster I brought to the game didn't want to go down there at half time and may well have been put off future games.

It'll be interesting to see what action the club take.
  • As someone who sits in the East Block B, so relatively close to the away end- I was shocked at the way not only the Millwall fans in the East Stand acted but also the seemingly lazy and "don't care" attitudes of the stewards, on numerous ocxassions they were asked about what was going to be done but every time they barely reacted. It was obvious from kick off that there were a good 30 away fans in block A and when they scored, there was quite a bit of frustration from the home fans around me. It took almost 30 mins for these to be removed and when they did, it was alomost farical to watch them led to the Jimmy Seed to a heroes welcome, only to be led back to the east and escorted away. Before the extra stewards arrived, the usual stewards basically could not give a flying etc, I know they are on low wages and probably don't want to risk being a victim but seriously, I paid my money to sit in the HOME end, with home fans and not feel outnumbered by away fans and shocked by the fact anyone in front of me who did try to make this point was threatened with violence by the very undesirable Millwall fans.

Also how dangerous was it putting more Millwall fans in the Jimmy Seed, it already looked over crowded.

If we are unfortunate enough to play them again soon, I will pay extra to sit somewhere else (hopefully in the North Upper). Also I really hope Charlton as a club have a response to what happened on sat as if we do play them again, they know they can get away with sitting in the home end and will no doubt do it on a larger scale
  • anyone else see the Police escort taking about a hundred Millwall fans towards Woolwich at about 2.30 ? I assume they were 'fans' rounded up without tickets and being taken out of the vicinity. Also, a blue Peugeot came down past The Oak with 'let em come' blaring out. Passed me by level crossing but did it get much of a reaction outside the Oak ?
