I really believe that we can pick up a lot of points over the next two months, putting a lot of pressure on Colchester, Norwich and Leeds when it come up to the run in.
Pleased with the win, was there. Good centre half performances, Basey took long while to get into the game and caught a bad tackle in the nuts which seemed to liven him up a bit. Sam was infuriating for the first 25 of the second half, dawdling around and never looking likely to attack the defence, then burst into life with some good runs. Lovely finish for the second, perfect angle for me to watch the ball bend round the keeper and in. Mooney great pass for Wagstaff, but should have had 3 himself. Carl Baker ran the game for an hour and we let him, he had the freedom to pick the ball up wherever he wanted and spray passes or go on runs as he liked. Very unlucky with a couple of shots. Saw him at Morecambe last year and he's got better since. I'd buy him in January, wonder how he'd get on with League 1's most popular player.
[cite]Posted By: Clem_Snide[/cite]If we continue our current win ratio for the rest of the season I couldn't give a monkeys if every single one of them is by the odd goal and is "ground" out. 3 points is 3 points.
Exactly that.
Grinding out results it's something we haven't really done more than odd game since Curbs left. That was 3 1/2 years ago. It's something we've been unable to do for a long time and it's a good thing. We needed to do it in the Championship, we used to do it in the Prem until the season we went down. The team needs to know how to do it whatever league we're in.
i didn't think the pitch was too bad really maybe a bit heavy but we ain't in the prem anymore.i felt a bif sorry for them, club looks very doomed,3 wins all season they were there for the taking but even at 2-0 down stockport fans still had plenty of voice and a good repertoire of songs.
i am not convinced by omozusi.stockport hit the bar a couple of times and elliot made a decent save though not sure what he was doing for their goal.waggy rushed a good chance blazing over before a very cool finish for his goal.mooney had several opportunities to kill this game early but not sure what his problem was out there.
i am much happier to see the team extend a a gap down to third and even see that the players were all up for a scrap like right at the death and that winning is very important to them, but opponents won't come much worse than yesterdays.

Thought their goalie looked good as well. Moodey misses were good saves from him. Took a great finish from Waggy to beat him for the second. Another for January if DR goes?
The general quality of English matches seems to hit a low in December I reckon, so to be grabbing three points every game at the moment is great, a bit like squirrels burying nuts for the spring.
Were you at the match? if so give us your thoughts on it rather than an inane profanity
i went and you are right in your thoughts about how unconvinving a performance it was and obviously we're all delighted about the win but unless you come on here with rose tinted specs and say everything is great in the world of charlton you will always get snipers ...
the result matters most we're in a pony league we have a few pony players but we also have s few decent players at this level ...
some people will get a hard on if we were playing in the rymans isthmian league divsion 8 with a win but for myself i'm delighted with the result but very wary of the performances ....
long may the results continue!!
I am wearing shades, weather they are rose tinted or not will have to be decided by someone else....
BUT lets look at the facts! 2nd in the league, on a winning streak both at home and away, 6 points clear of 2nd, only 2 points of top spot, a boss who seems to have a huge drive, crowd attendences way more than anticipated, a striker who we thought was a bit rubbish turning it on in the winter of his career, a stadium, always linked to the right takeovers(one day the deal will happen)
So for me, its all gravy.... and on top of that I expected us to seel EVERYONE and fall though the leagues this season.....
the division does not lend itself to good football all the time guys, we have to play on shite pitches in the rain with no cover with people kicking and punching us, its pure will for a lot of these teams....
and Its XMAS so stop crying everyone its alright...
Just watched the goals and the "melee" that happened at the end...
Some great saves from Robbie and both goals were quality, a proper leap and lung from Sodje and Wagstaff showing hes got the skill to deliever an exceptional finish from a difficult angle....
Stockport fighting for their lives , this is a very very good result in my eyes against a team desperate for points ...
it certainly was and much harder than the earlier chance he missed when he skyed a good chance with the goal at his mercy and the keeper on the floor
To be fair the first one rebounded to him and took him by surprise a bit. He shot instinctively and got under it. He was clearly annoyed with himself and thought much more about the second chance when he had a bit more time. He also knew the goalie would spread himself (as he had done well throughout) and placed it round him into the far corner. Haven't seen a player so happy to score a goal for ages. Great the way he ran to the crowd and got a few hugs for his efforts!
Agree with Chaz; Waggy did really well for that clincher and has already shown he can finish. Of course he's still learning - this was his THIRD league start, but he has the work ethic most of us insist upon in a Charlton player, coupled with a high level of skill, and the rare ability to skip past players with a drop of the shoulder (two particularly good runs in the first half that may have been more memorable if they'd been towards our support).
Robbie too is learning in public, in the most exposed position of all. He seems to have taken a fair bit of stick for the one that hung in the air after hitting the bar, but was (I thought) impeded as it came down, and still made an excellent save amid the ensuing melee. I actually thought he realised a bit late that the cross that led to their goal posed a genuine threat, and could perhaps have saved his blushes, but it's easy from 110 yards away.
My point is that we all like to see our kids given a chance so without being blind to their occasional blips, let's get right behind them and give them the confidence to make fewer. Although we love "one of our own", I don't believe many of us - or the management - are blinkered enough to overlook any frailties purely on the grounds of being good Charlton sorts. These guys have earned their places and are contributing to sucessive wins.
As said elsewhere we should really have buried this one by half time, but instead of a tale of woe and "if onlys", showed the necessary resolve and went on to finish the job. Stockport played some neat and tidy stuff through the middle without quite having the necessary edge in the two boxes, as have many sides struggling in the Prem, ourselves in previous seasons amonmg them. If this had been done to us at The Valley by a "bigger" club we'd probably sigh and acknowledge that they were just that bit better where it mattered.

We were away from home on a ploughed up pitch and if Mooney had taken either of the two good chances that he had in the first half - and on another day he'd have taken both, then we'd have won by three/four goals.

Players often in the past have joined clubs where there is history for example Kinsella and Weaver, they get over it.

Now that is a very good point, Paddy.
