Brian Laws says in the Sheffield Star that they are subsidising his wages while on loan to us. He also says he will play more games with us to get him fit.
[cite]Posted By: Mortimerician[/cite]Saying no to loans because we've made a number of bad ones (but a few great ones - Carson and Ward spring to mind) is like saying we shouldn't have a manger because we've made a number of shit appointments. The smart idea would be to not make shit loan signings. Trust me after you've seen a bit more of Akpo people will be desperate for him to sign up.
What Mortimerician said.
And as Oggy said somewhere if you look at the loans individually they are different and make sense.
Omo, who seems to be the new whipping boy based on two games, is out of contract and available. Both our RBs were injured with a day of each other so it was a sound move to bring some cover in.
Ikeme, we needed another keeper. Should he play rather than Randolph is a moot point but again a necessary move.
Holden is effectively on a half season trial to see if he is good enough to move up from non-league. He's not keeping anyone out of the side right now but we have an option to buy if we like him.
So that leaves Mooney and A Sodje and they are the loans closer to one's last season. We have other forwards so why bring them in? The accusation last year was that loans would upset the permanent players so I expect plenty of people to leap to the defence of poor displaced McLeod. Or maybe not.
Mooney looked excellent yesterday in his first home league start. A Sodje worries me as he is not match fit and has had a lot of injuries but when fit is an different option to what we have and adds to the squad. And we maybe able to sign him permanently.
[cite]Posted By: Kap10[/cite] what is mooney doing here
Working hard for the team and he did well on saturday.
[cite]Posted By: Oggy Red[/cite]A point I tried to make much earlier in the thread ...... Akpo Sodje was very keen to come here.
He's a local lad, remember, coming home.
Exactly. Plus he's likely to care a bit more than some of the sh*t we've had in the past because his brother plays for us.
Not sure what the story is whether we can buy him in jan, Laws has said he is with us to get some games and get fit. Would like to think we could afford him as I think he could be a really good player at this level and IF IF IF we were to go up, then he is someone who could cut it in the Champ, unlike a certain other striker who cannot cut it against northwich

Sodje is out of contract at the end of the season andit seems surplus to requirements at Sheff Weds, according to the OS he's here on a 28 day loan - which takes him up to early December, so if it works out I'd imagine he'd get an extension into January and then we wrangle over a small transfer fee with SW. What we pay is probably likely to come down to what Bristol Rovers pay us for Dickson.

I suspect they didn't renew his contract due to fitness rather than performance concerns. If he does brilliantly for us, then it might kick open the Hillsborough door for him again. I suspect that they'd rather have a fully functional Akpo than anything that we can fork over to him. But then again, if he decides he fancies a fresh start closer to home, you never know.
The truth is that if Sheff Weds (who are hardly Chelsea or Mother Teresa) are subsidising Sodje's wages then he is obviously still very much in their plans for the rest of the season.
They would not be shelling out dough (especially since his contract is up in June) unless they felt that they would get some value out of him in the second half of the season.
If we want to take him in January then we would have to pay a fee for him, albeit a small one.
Well, it could be that they've reduced his wage in the hope of getting a fee in December. Cut price "trail offer" is something many companies do to encourage sales. The truth is that we do not know. I'm just grateful he's here, showed a couple of nice touches when he came on.

who's to say we're not paying all of his wages?
Brian Laws in the Sheffield Star:
CHARLTON Athletic are the club who look set to borrow Akpo Sodje - and it could open the way for the Owls to bring in a loan signing of their own.
The Sodje loan deal is likely to be completed either this morning - making him eligible for Charlton's home League One game against MK Dons this afternoon - or next week.
Owls manager Brian Laws said: "If Akpo goes out for 28 days he will get in four or five games, which we can't give him at the moment, and it can only be a win-win situation for us before he rejoins us with his match fitness improved.
"We'll have to subsidise the wages; it doesn't give me a great deal of scope to bring anybody in, with the wage budget I have left, but we are looking do something before we play Ipswich next Saturday."

Sheffield Wednesday have given permission for Richard Wood to talk to another Championship club after accepting an offer for the defender.
Coventry City are the favourites to sign the transfer-listed 24-year-old in a deal that would be worth about £500,000 in January.
Owls manager Brian Laws expects Wood to leave the club in the next 48 hours.
Meanwhile, Laws has confirmed that he would like to use the proceeds of any player sales to bring in a new striker.
A Sodje further down the pecking order then
Mcenzie, Mooney, Burton, Sodje, not forgetting Tuna and ho ho- McCleods suspension will be over on tuesday
