[cite]Posted By: Scoham[/cite]Wrong. Sam's not a great crosser, but he does create chances for us. Nine assists last season (and that's only chances that were finished) in a struggling team in which he wasn't a regular is decent, as is his record this season (3 assists a third of the way through the season).

I think nine assists a season is abyssmal to be honest!
Are you serious that you would be happy for him to have just NINE assists a season?
I'd have thought the best part of twenty assists and at least 5-10 goals should be the minimum for the paciest wing attacking midfield forward crosser we have at the club!
If you add in the fact we are not struggling for survival this year and is an ever present to date that is a shocking return.
What Colin and Oggy said. Look at the stats for previous seasons (though not sure they're available) and at other clubs. Would love to see how many decent changes he actually set up but were missed as well.

25-30 goals and assists would be outstanding for any player in any league.

Football League site puts Sam joint 4th on assists in the league (actually 4 assists, not 3), only six players in the entire league have more assists than him, Shelvey being one of them.
  • BBC said we had 52% possession, didn't watch it so fair enough if that was in the final third.

As for Ambrose he barely ever assisted more than two goals a season. His best was the 07/08 season when he assisted 5, whilst Zhi assisted 6. Mysteriously ZZ and Ambrose were both on 5 assists when Andy Reid was playing for us, even more mysteriously both Ambrose and ZZ stopped creating anything without Reid's impetus that season. Sam was an outlet in a shower of shit, a midfield so bad that Ambrose did precisely nothing in it; and let's face it in the champ even with a semi-hard working midfield Ambrose should be a factor.
  • bit dissapointed with the news here, just as dont feel he had a fair run out & couple of sub appearances looked alright coming on and thought he would be useful especially as we have no left midfielder! but we dont know what happens behind closed doors so maybe he wasnt fit enough? maybe we have lined up someone else to come in or maybe trying Youga, Basey Combo who knows but would of liked to holden given more of a chance as he had a nice cross on him
  • Trouble with having no reserve matches, but assuming Parky et al had more than a fair look at him. Shame for him, hope he gets another chance.
  • With 7 spaces on the subs bench,if Parkie and co felt he was good enough for a chance in the league he would have at least got one seat on the bench,in the end he only had an appearance as sub in JPT and whilst he did produce a good cross for the goal his control and first touch did not come to much. he spent 3 months with the club, so you cannnot really say he did not have a chance, for whatevcer reason he was not able to take it, sad for him but he was not the answer to the problem lets move on and find a solution.
  • Might be that Ben Davidsson is now nearing fitness, although he's a bit small, he's quite quick & tricky with an eye for goal.

That's fair enough, but that's a bit harsh on his only appearance. He came on to play without our best team out there, players out of position and us losing the game. Wagstaff often doesn't do much, Sam has poor games, most wingers are like that. To expect him to really get into it, settle down and instantly produce something is asking a lot.

Seems he wasn't good enough, but that won't be based on his JPT performance.
  • Parky has watched him in training for 3 months.

He hasn't done badly so I'll back his judgement re Holden
  • Sorry Scoham did not mean to imply the decision would be on his JPT appearance

Yeah realised after I posted you probably didn't mean that.

Will be looking out for him to see if he gets a chance at another club. Coventry were interested before we signed him, will be hard for him to get a chance with a Championship or bigger League One club now.
  • Have we perhaps got someone lined up ?
  • Parky said not long ago they had some targets so hopefully.
  • been said by PP, Murray and Varney on different occasions recently that we would like a Left midfielder.

Puncheon was close to coming and Andros Townsend has been rumoured.

Feel sorry for Holden as he had few cup or reserve games and PP himself said that lack of reserve games might have been a factor in him not pushing on the way he hoped.

Good luck to the guy in the future.
  • Good luck to him, I thought I read he was going to Bury in Jan. He should get more of a chance to play regularly there

Signed for Wrexham on loan, supposedly on loan from us.

    Tut, tut BBC
  • Was expecting to see he'd gone to Southampton there Henry!
  • I take back the "far better option that Wagstaff" comment earlier in the thread

Wagstaff is now really showing why Pardew and Parky both rate him. Pardew played him far too early, Parky is doing a better job at judging when to play the young players and slowly bringing them
    through.
