[cite]Posted By: Ledge[/cite]or is he saying fuck off capello u haven't picked me once why should i help u out for one game knowing full well I'll never get another call.
Seems that way, bit pathetic really. I know he's had a tough year but surely a pressureless game for your country against Brazil in a warm country would have cheered him up a little.
Perhaps he's just saying he doesnt want to be away from his family much because they are in mourning of their son and his brother and his family need him now more than England would ever do.
He retired from International Football in Feb. The FA were told. He didn't make a fuss or call a press conference like Andy Cole or Graham Le Saux did.
The FA asked him this week if he was still retired and he said yes. Simple as that, no snub just another non-story whipped by an ever boring media.
Players don't always retire from international football just because they are throwing their toys out of the pram.
Players who hit the age of 30 often decide to quit international football because of the long term effects of old injuries - and a desire to continue playing in the Prem as long as they can.
In the past, Luke Young has been reported has having arthritic hip and knee weakness - so he'll just want to prolong his career. It's common sense really ...... the Prem is where the money is. He won't want to be on the dole when he's 32, when otherwise he can still be a big earner at 35.
Top league footballers might earn wages the rest of us can only fantasise about - but it is a short career.
And it can end at a moment's notice.
Fair play, but would another dozen matches really have that much effect on a career? Players who retire from international football would be training with their clubs anyway (appearances in finals apart). Money wise they all earn at least enough in a month to keep the rest of us going for a year or two, and the kudos of appearing in a major championship finals, plus the offchance that an important goal in an important match (unlikely with Luke, but you never know) might propel you into legendary status, and all the commercial opportunities that presents may well offset any possible shortening of career? It would also add another grand or so to any post-career speaking engagements.
There is the chance that a career ending injury might happen in an international, but it is pretty unlikely.
If someone's paying you serious money and another potential employer hasn't taken you seriously then who would you choose? He'd had a stonking few seasons and was barely called up.
As he has only two years left on his contract fair enough. He's an honest performer but one that probably needs to feel his fitness is 100%; that's an oppinion from having seen him play so might be wrong. No doubt if he'd been praised by the England setup because he played for a top four team things may have been different. But personally I can see his point.

Employer? We are talking playing for England here Colin, not moving from McDonalds to Pizza Hut FFS...
I know his best years are past him but I think thats an absolute steal for Liverpool!True professional who will give his all to the cause.Proved many arrogant spurs fans wrong when he joined us! You deserve it Luke, good luck to you! Us Addicks are all behind you!
[cite]Posted By: mascot88[/cite]Liverpool seem to be buidling a really solid top 8 side.. Konch, young, solid Europa league quality...
That's what I was thinking. I thought Liverpool were all about finally winning the league again? As much as I respect Young, who was a really good player for us, let's be realistic - you're never going to win the Premiership with him and Konchesky at the back.

So have I.
But of all the notorious things you've done that isn't the one that made the news.
Oh no, what will Fabio do now????????
Sorry Luke, your best years are past you now anyway.
Best of luck Luke. Must be tough.

I bet, despite what I wrote before, it's nothing to do with playing career or tantrums. Or even the sad family bereavement.
Bet his missus put her foot down - and said she wanted him at home to spend more time with her.
;o)
