so glad there aren't too many footy fans at work.. I am truly embarassed to be Charlton fan right now for the first time ever, and really not sure I want to continue.

Don't then but don't try and bring us all down with you.
[cite]Posted By: JakeCAFC_94[/cite]If you're a fan, you will take the good times with the bad.
Exactly. Stick with it, you'll get through it.
Trust me, we've been in a far worse plight in recent seasons.
Managers and players (and directors) come and go, but the ones with no choice about moving on are the fans. They are the true backbone of any club.
I'm expecting to get it in the neck from the plastic Newcastle fan at work tomorrow, but then it's partly my own fault for the grief I gave him when they lost at Scunthorpe. It's all part of the glorious rollercoaster that is being a Charlton fan.
Even though Im in the US I will get it from my Chelsea and Spurs mates.....this is one of the lowest points in many years and I honestly cannot see that group of players pulling us out of this. The only chance we have is a takeover and get rid of Parkinson and bring in Curbs....
Perhaps I am a plastic, altho I had some Valley turf in my garden for some years. Supported properly since the early nineties, but I don't claim to be any more or less a fan than anyone else.
Yesterday was the lowest I've ever been on the Charlton roller coaster, losing with your first team to a club so far below.
In all seriousness I believe you can't change your club and so never would, but this is a severe test for me personally on top of the last few years of continuous disappointment - as to whether I can be arsed to keep going. Maybe I care a bit too much or take it all too seriously, its only football after all right? And I guess this happens to lots of clubs?

You should count yourself lucky you wasn't a supporter in the early 70's and early 80's then. It's brilliant compared to those days.
Surprised that after the game yesterday I only got one mate text me. 3 years ago in the Prem I would have had 10-15. As embarrassing as I thought the game was most people actually hadn't even heard what the score was and weren't bothered when they found out! Not sure what is worse; the piss taking of the past or the complete lack of interest in the present!
How can people question whether they want to continue supporting Charlton even after yesterday's game ?
.........
In my case I haven't faltered one iota in my support for the club. I've seen a lot, lot worse and in any case it's but a game. No one died, no one got hurt (well physically) and this is par for the course in supporting a team like Charlton.
Sorry I forgot there was rules as to how why and when you support Charlton, silly me.
Its a personal thing for me, and there are other reasons too, if that brings you down then I am sorry but hey its a free country.
Sure I'm probably venting, and Charlton will always be my club but my enthusiasm has taken a tumble over the years and this is a huge low point for me following last weeks visit to Gills, I really struggle to get motivated to go to games at the moment.
My favourite era will always be those few years before we got promoted in the mid-late nineties, a good honest team with few pretensions. But I think football has changed since then (largely due to cash), and so probably have I.
Well after all that, it's not been so bad too far. The plastic Newcastle fan isn't in the office, and apart from a rather poor joke about I can't be a Charlton fan because I've got a cup in my hand, no-one's really taken the piss. One of the resident QPR fans sympathised, and mentioned that a few years ago they got beaten on penalties by Vauxhall Motors in the second round, and they were even lower down non-league than Northwich.
this to me is the most embarassing moment as a charlton supporter, when we let in 7 at brighton and burnley they were to teams in our league yesterdays performance was as pathetic a performance as you could ever not wish to see.......
we're as much a joke club right here right now as we have ever been
but of course we love em
[cite]Posted By: Covered End[/cite]No rules. I will support the club whatever. It's just the way I am. I Can't help myself, the Club means so much to me and always will.
I may be extremely disappointed and angry after yesterday's performance, but my love for the club has not faltered, that's why it hurts so bad.
If you don't want to support the team any more then that's fair enough, I don't have a problem with that.
It just saddens me when people talk of bailing out, when the times are tough.
I don't remember too many talking of not supporting us any more when we were 4th in The Prem.
Human nature I suppose.
Its not like we just got relegated from the prem tho, and like I said i was quite happy in the championship before promotion.
It may have been a woeful, abject display. Lacking passion and commitment. We may well be the laughing stock of the league, our rivals revelling in our misfortune. But through thick and thin, it's my team. I'd rather be an Addick than a plastic.

Thank f**k that wasn't the attitude in September 1985 or during the 7 years that followed.
Lowest point ? Nowhere near it. Worst Monday ? Going to school 2 days after letting in 7 at Burnley was certainly 1 of them. Or 7 at Brighton.
Covered End, u ain't wrong mate.

On the football front...time for an unbeaten run up until Xmas now methinks.
Has it's advantages....
