Overreaction

  • Obviously we are all deflated, fgoing back a few months though, we felt a bit like this after Hereford and look at the run we went on after that, maybe just maybe this may spur them on to better things.
  • Agree with charlton_carl on this.
  • By the new year it could be all too late!!!
  • overreaction to losing to a team 86 places below us with their two best players suspended? after ten games of playing badly and being relegated two leagues in three seasons? You are spot on young shaver, moaning old farts the lot of em.

Or it might be OK...who knows?

    Drop Racon

Amen! Not seen much of us this season ,but took all the plaudits for Racon with a pinch of salt. The bloke's a joke
  • Awful, woeful, embarrassing... I could go on. Possibly the worst performance I've ever seen from a Charlton team.

The test is how we react now. Wednesday in the Paint Pot cup then Saturday against Milton Keynes, probably the two biggest games for the club since our relegation from the prem. We will see what they are made of and whether they have any fight in them.

Don't lose your heads yet, the season is still young. Let's see what reaction we get.
  • How can you overreact when you have fans of a club 80 places below you singing "easy easy"? How can you overreact when every radio report says "its difficult working out who the league team is and who is non-league"?
  • [cite]Posted By: Kap10[/cite]I am a supporter of Parkie as my posting on Hill to The Valley illustrates and I applauded the giving of a years extension, however he was given the extension for what he had done and the prospect for the future.

    Kap,
    What has he done? Really.
A strong quick start against very weak opposition, following relegation and the worst spell in club history.
Did those first six matches tilt everything in his favour, to reward him with a contract extention?
Does the extention now hamstring the club further from making a change, if they think a change is needed today, tomorrow, next week or after Christmas?
Why was the extention needed now, as opposed to, say, January?
Were the board afraid that he was going to go to Reading?
Some people before today would have viewed that as a blessing in disguise.
It seems as if Parky's biggest asset is that people like him, that personally he is the opposite of Pardont.
That's fine. But what has accomplished as a manager at Charlton that warrants this loyalty?
    Doug
  • Cause its a 1 off, its what happens in cup competitions and has done for decades! We are 2nd in the league and the start to the season in general has helped restore some pride to the club after 3-4 years of being a joke. If we were to win next weekend would all the Parkinson out posters maintain their views?

  • As a mate down the boozer said."There's still flowers in bloom and you're out the cup!! ".Sodding disgrace.
  • In my opinion it's not an over-reaction. It's a reasonable response. The Gillingham game was awful and yet some of our fans even clapped the players off the pitch - that was a massive under-reaction and the players and management are lucky to have such nice supporters. We're too bloody nice - we need to wise up and not accept such shit.

This would be the right reaction from the management - put in Wagstaff, Tuna and Basey on Wednesday. If they play well then they start against MK Dons. It's that simple.

Oh, and get McLeod out - I said this weeks ago but now I really mean it. In my opinion we should not accept having such a lazy thug playing for Charlton. I'd make an exception and even suggest booing him so much that they wouldn't dare play him again.

It is not a one-off. We have had 3 absolutely awful performances.

We will not win next week-end unless he does as I suggest above.

Have you been on weed today or something?
  • god this is th emost depressing day as a charlton fan for a while
  • from where i STOOD we were as woeful as we were agasinst Carlisle, Gillingham & Colchester..........4 games in which we have had about 6 shots all told and scored 2 goals ( well, 1 actually - the other being an own goal).

1 SHOT ALL GAME AGAINST A TEAM 80 PLACES BELOW US IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

Yes, we are CURRENTLY 2nd in the table (by virtue of goal difference) but only because we had such a good start to the season and by 5pm next Sat I assure you we will not be and by Dec we will be out of the top 6

McLeod & Sam should be dropped, Dickson should be recalled and Bailley should be reverted to a midfield 4 - Waggy, tuna and on-loan Rhyl lad to fight for the wide places.
  • end of the day though Golfie i dont think taking all them players out of the team will work. They have the skill, we know that, players such as Sam, Racon....

For some reason we aren't getting the best out of them, well recently we havent even been getting 50%! you've gotta put the blame on the manager for that....

At last some sense on here. Welcome home Golfy. Please don't go to so many away games - you don't need to keep making your life a misery. Do something else: go to the park or play golf.
  • [cite]Posted By: The Red Robin[/cite]Where we any different in cup games in Curbs' later years?
    Mortimerician
    Yes
    The Red Robin
    How?
Well we've never lost against non-league opposition in our history. That's not just different to Curbs' time, it's different to every manager in over 100 years. That's Reed, Dowie, Pardew and the whole circus that we've been through lately.

So yes. We really "where". And, at least with Curbs we were in the Premiership and actually had something better to do when we went out.

I'm astonished you needed to ask.
  • So...recent decisions are to get two loans in (here we go again) when we're supposed to have a squad, err Randolph comes after a loanee from Wolves eh, and Basey isn't better than the new Butterfiedlesque right back? And then to persist with Izale as one up front against Northwich??? Luvverly Jubberly with a fat new contract eh?

So because Pardew won a couple of cup games we can ignore that he got us relegated...twice. Huge overreaction on here to the defeat. Should Shrewsbury sack their manager as well?

  • RECENT AWAY GAMES :

NV - 1 shot on target
Gills - 1 shot on target
    Col U - 1 shot on target
Carlisle - 2 shots on target

see a pattern ? This ain't knee jerk after one match reaction this is reaction to a downward spiral that started eight games ago and shows no sign of ending.

Like I said in the thread I posted, with this squad we only have one way of playing. When it works, it makes us look good, when teams know how to counter it, we look poor, struggle to create chances and can't change it around. We need more options. Least the game Wednesday will give a few other players a chance, though if they were that good, they'd most likely be closer to the first team already.
  • Parky got it tactically very wrong. Against a non-leage side we should have played two up and we could easily have sacrificed Semedo as we don't need soemone just to protect the back four against such opposition.
  • Those saying it's an over-reaction to one game obviously haven't been watching us in recent weeks. We've had 1 win in 7 games (i'm not counting the JPT).
Colchester, Oldham, Gillingham, Carlisle and then yesterday were all terrible performances. We haven't played well for weeks. Even in the 1 game we won against Huddersfield we were lucky not to be beaten.
Parkinson needs to sort it out and sort it out fast. He picks the same under-performing players week in week out. Show some b*llocks and drop them.
  • Last goal in open play by a Charlton player : four mins into second half v Huddersfield on Oct 17.

Since then, just one comical own goal and a penalty to show for more than 300 mins of football.

Ironically, the goal v Huddersfield was by yesterday's villian, McLeod. He also scored our last goal by a striker before that - against Exeter way back on Sept 26. So that's one goal in open play by a Charlton striker in six weeks.

As for the mid-field - no goals in seven weeks (the last was Shelvey in first-half v Norwich on Sept 19).

As others have said if the misery and depression on here was all in response to yesterday, then yes it would be an over-reaction. But it isn't just about yesterday, is it?

One way for teams to counter it of late seems to be by turning up ?
  • Why did Parkinson play McLeod up front in a 4-5-1??

Shurely anyone on here could have told him that what little attributes McLeod does have are not suited to that formation

If McLeod plays then it has to be as part of a strike pairing - is that not a given??

Parkinson got us relegated not pardew. If people are saying pardew did then he could blame dowie and reed for his relegation from the prem.

It is this blind faith and total impotence and denial that has found uss in the 3rd division and knocked out of the fa cup in the 1st round against non league opposition with practically our strongest side.

Dunno what the answer is because there isnt anyone out there that could turn the club round with no money but parkinson certainly is not the person to do it.

1 up front away against non league opposition and placing all our hopes on a 17 year old who is probably wondering why on earth he bothered doing the decent thing and staying after the shit that happened yesterday under a manager who cant put a team out to beat a non league outfit.

Not good enough and when will the eternal optimists keep clapping along and telling us all to have faith in the management and the board? When we are playing Bromley?

Overeaction? Maybe but in the all years ive been supporting charlton i cant remember a more impotent time.
  • Spot on Rodders and Large.

If you're a manager coming up against us in the next few weeks you might want to see if you can find a couple of bricklayers - one that's 6'3" or above and one that can take a long throw, because that is tactically all it takes to outsmart Parky.

I'm being a little unfair here, but only to Northwich.
  • full stop F*** the clown off when i m seeing players who are earing a decent wage run the ball out of play is totally not an over reaction and McLeod was about as much use as a chocolate fire gaurd and i hope he does get banned for that elbow so we aint got to play the prat

    jonjo doesnt look happy
youga left back well he was about as good as my 2 year old he couldnt pass wind
    one shot all poxy game

well done to northwich lets hope afc wimbledon can do the same to millwall
