[cite]Posted By: DRAddick[/cite]You sure? Kindly tell me what you've seen recently to suggest this 'cause i must have missed it.
Well, losing to Northwich will hopefully have woken the team up to the fact that, after our early season run, we can't be complacent against anyone this season. That's what I was trying to suggest. Recent form will have concerned Parkinson, of that I'm sure, but the players may not have fully released until today's defeat how quickly we need to turn this slump around.
Like I said, if we don't improve after today, I don't see how we're going to improve over the course of the season. We've shown that our squad is capable, and so the (& in my opinion, valid) argument that Parkinson used last season about inheritting a team low on confidence, nothing he could do, etc. has slid away.
Elliot makes plenty of errors - he's prone to flapping at crosses and breakdowns of communcation with his back 4 but he makes good saves at important times and his inexperience excuses his errors and allows time for improvement in his game. Same applies for Randolph - he has all the tools to be a good goalkeeper but needs to learn from his mistakes. We'd be mad to give up on him already.

[cite]Posted By: Red_Pete[/cite]His last minute error at Anfield was the same.
Majid Bougherra handballed it and they got a penatly?
[cite]Posted By: choice DJ[/cite] Too many people love Billy Elliot because he is a charlton fan, he isnt actually that good!!!
exactly and let's not forget that whilst not in our team our players appear much better than when they are ..... i mean we just couldn't wait for semedo to return and ....................

Leaping all over one of our "own" on the basis of a bit of hesitancy is just stupid. Keepers get better as they go through their 20s (moreso) than outfield players. Condemning him for that, when he was left completely exposed - in a game that he kept us in - sums up a lot of the debate on this thread.
[cite]Posted By: nigel w[/cite]Something's not right with the morale in this squad at the moment. Probably doesn't help when the likes of Randolph and Basey can put in MoM performances and know that it makes no difference because they will be dropped , regardless. Matt Spring has also played well every time he has been given a chance and would do better than Semedo or Racon on current form.
Well said, sir.
I was thinking about this today. Not only from the perspective of those outside the inner sanctum, who probably realise that their chance will not come at this club. What is the effect on the hallowed first-choicers? Surely knowing that your place is never going to be under too much threat can't be hugely motivating? I wonder if that's a problem.
I reckon at other clubs players would have come in at half time thinking that they needed to bust a gut to keep their spot, but our lot knew they could LOLl around, safe in the knowledge that nobody can seriously threaten their spot.
Summary: competition is good and it's not always the best players that put in the best performances and make the best team.
Whether Randolph was at fault for the goal is not really the point. Like the rest of the defence, the goalkeeper will make mistakes during a game, and some of those mistakes will lead to conceding goals. It is asking too much to expect any defensive unit to keep a clean sheet to win or draw a game as mistakes will always happen. Great when they do keep a clean sheet, but wrong to expect it in every game.
The trick is to put the ball in the opposing goal a few times so that any error by the goalkeeper, central defender or whoever does not cost you the match. Our problem is not in defence, it is at the other end. We are failing to create an adequate number of chances and have forwards who will struggle to convert those that we do make.
It's amazing how easy it is to defend when the ball is in the opponent's half, and then goalkeeping errors seldom get discussed.

What exactly have we shown we are capable of? Beating the garbage teams in the league? Struggling against all the others? We're pretty capable at not scoring goals, for over 300mins, does that count?
Parkinson didn't inherit anything, he worked for Pards when the confidence of the team was destroyed, he was always been part of the problem and as far as I'm concerned never shown any signs of being the solution.
I don't know why everyone's going so bloody mental over the fact we lost to Northwich Victoria. Losing cup games to low-level opposition has been a problem of ours for about 15 years. Why's this one so bad? Because it was on the tele?

Because we lost to a non league team for the first time in our history. That's 104 years! We lost to team of part timers, while we are a team of highly paid full time professionals. If that doesn't bother you, or Parky and the players, then you have no pride. It hurt me badly, and I'm embarrassed not just because we lost, but because we could easily have lost 4-0 and we could only muster one shot on goal FFS.
Thread title is true. Obviously we'll need to sign a replacement before we let him go.
DARREN Randolph has been told he is free to talk to other clubs.
The Charlton keeper is available for transfer after failing to break into the Addicks first team on a regular basis this season.
The 22-year-old has been at The Valley for six years, but the academy graduate has found his path into the starting XI blocked by Rob Elliot.
“I’m sitting down for a chat with Darren this week,” boss Phil Parkinson told the South London Press.
“There’s been no firm interest yet but Darren can talk to other clubs if he wants to. He wants to play first-team football and we understand that. But if nothing happens he will stay here and remain an important member of our squad.”
[cite]Posted By: Parky Droned[/cite]But if nothing happens he will stay here and remain an important member of our squad, although behind any hapless loan signings that I might bring in
Can't see him getting a permanent move. We were clearly a better deal than he could have gotten elsewhere in the summer when he was out of contract. Can't see why that would have changed.

Depends how low a division he's willing to drop down to I guess. And how much money he wants of course.
1- he will be in a much better position than he is at Charlton 2- anywhere above League 2 (I think he is good enough for League 1- Parky may disagree) 3- wages, Randolph may have taken a cut in the summer to sign his 1 year deal but I reckon he is on a competitive amount, not sure if he will be able to eqaul ro better this elsewhere.
I think his best bet would be to wait until the summer, when teams shake things up completely and a lot of teams are on the look out for first choice keepers. Randolph will also have the chance then to have a few trials and decide the best move.
DARREN Randolph has been handed a last chance to prove he has a future at Charlton.
The keeper was told earlier this season he could leave The Valley in January if he had failed to cement a regular starting spot in the first team.
But the Addicks have not received any bids for the 22-year-old, whose contract expires in the summer.
Boss Phil Parkinson opted to bring in loan signing Carl Ikeme ahead of Randolph when first-choice number one Rob Elliot was injured before Christmas. Parkinson is willing to listen to offers, but has told Randolph he could still break into the side.
“Darren will be staying,” said Parkinson. “We haven’t had any bids so that’s the situation at the moment.
“Darren’s attitude has been excellent and he needs to keep pushing Rob as hard as he can.”
[cite]Posted By: You Tube Addick[/cite]Another one of your wise decisions hey Parkinson.
Ok Randy Darren could have come off his line a bit quicker for the goal but if it wasnt for him we would already of been 3 down. WAKE UP PARKINSON, if your lucky to still have a job in the morning then signing Randolph on a long contract would be your first decision. Sorry thats unlikely, youd have to have a brain to know that and having a brain doesnt apply to you you useless MUPPET!!!
WALK AWAY and do us all a favour. The Players are shite but the manager carries the can....P*** OFF

That requires us to play football...something that was not evident today.
