aye but at the same time some take every opportunity to start threads of a certain sort in the first place (although this isn't necessarily one of them), ah well.
I have grave reservations as to the morality of both the Afghan and Iraq wars.
However our troops are there and it was not them who decided to engage in these wars. They are brave men and women fighting with sub-standard equipment. The classic lions led by donkeys.
Please don't allow your (legitimate) concerns about the war to turn into an attack on the soldiers on the ground.
Personally I think it would be a nice touch if they could give the legion some tickets to mark remembrance, not sure its going to make an awful lot of difference though
Anyone who does not agree with the war or the conflicts our troops are serving in, should take it up with the Home Secretary and the Prime Minister.
The troops signed up to serve this country and protect it's people, regardless of where & when, that decision is made by the politicians, I am sure (and I know, from some who are there now serving) that most of them dont necessarily agree either, but that should not distract from the brave & fantastic job that the individuals do.
I dont always agree with my bosses and their decisions and policies, but I still have to perform my role to the best of my ability, and dont expect to be criticised by others for doing so. This is no way should detract from the great jobs that our Police/Ambulance/Fire Brigade or Nurses do either.
[cite]Posted By: SoWhat[/cite]Haven't the troops gone through enough without having Charlton v Tranmere Rovers free tickets shoved under their noses
Anyhow on a serious note wouldn't some jumped-up tw@t from Greenwich Council or some group be jumping up and down about the anti-Muslim stance this could be determined as. Not my thought but the irrational thought of these nutters who always leap out of the woodwork, when in this country, something considered a good deed for the troops, is hastily frowned upon by our ethnic minority protectionist brethren!
What a load of bollocks. Let's make up a response from some mythical people at Greenwich Council before it has even, or most likely ever will have, happened so you can get all hot under the collar and self righteous about it.
Real shame that a good idea about tickets for troops gets twisted into yet another lets political rant.
i work in community psychiatry, does that mean i qualify for a freebie....?
kidding.
i have massive respect for all troops 'stuck' in places that present a daily threat to their lives. regardless of my views on whether they should or shouldn't be there, when they get home they really do need to relax and wind down from the stress they have been experiencing. if any want to come down the valley, then the club could incorporate it under the banner of their community scheme.
As for injured Police and Paramedics, most of the medics I know have more sense and support other teams. There are only a few of us who love Charlton!! And the Police have no common sense so they don't count.
No need to be so overly polite there Henry
I certainly am not being self righteous or making any political rant merely making a gentle point. There's no denying the fact that what I said is true insofar as these types are given media exposure against anything seen as beneficial to our AF's.
Maybe or maybe not Greenwich Council would comment...just a thought on my part, big deal! This IS a forum right?
It's not inappropriate to make a half-hearted comment about it in this thread either so I suggest that you calm down mate and have a cup of tea, or something stronger
Yep, you are right this is a Forum, so stop repeating the cheap straw man arguments from the Daily Hate-Mail and think of something for yourself for once.
Surely at the end of the day , it's bums on seats that matter - a near as dammit full Valley for every home match must be the goal. More progs, hot dogs, beer etc sold, more business for the Club Shop ( just can't refer to it as the Superstore ! )
Agree with Henry....Scout groups, brownies, cubs, beavers, junior football teams - MAKE 'em come to SE7 ! Maybe they could award those sew on badges " For supporting your local team " !
[cite]Posted By: Goonerhater[/cite]I hope the club do something. Do think maybe some wouldnt want to upset Greenwich Council, but have no idea what the council think (or f**king care).
If the club dont , then im more than sure some of us from here and there can do something
its not that dificult.
What does it have to do with Greenwich Council? I can't see why they'd object to a private club donating some tickets to the Armed Forces, but then have no objection to a military base a couple of miles up the road and well inside their jurisdiction...
Of course inventing a perceived and non-existent objection is far more interesting than reality.
Have we done anything with the RA in the last cple years ? they are and have been a major part of our community since 1770 ish. If we havnt why havnt we ?
other people mentioned Greenwich council naff off and bore them .

But you were the one who mentioned Greenwich Council...
Have had to take a couple of posts out that were purely driven to snipe at others or get a rise.
You've all been on here long enough to know what subject matter is seen acceptable, and what is seen dodgy terrority due to the fact some of you are incapable of debating in a polite, civil way.
You've also all been on here long enough to know what is viewed as acceptable behaviour in terms of debating / disagreeing with others, in order to maintain an effective, smooth running and friendly forum (even if that is a bit wet for some).
Either people adapt to make the effort to stay away from certain topics they know we view as contentious, certain political angles, trying to dig at individuals, trying to get a rise out of others, and knowing when to make their point and leave it at that, or i'm afraid we'll have to look at losing a few people from here.
You know full well that's not what we want to do, but at the same time the same old shit keeps re-emerging every few weeks now, and its becoming draining.
As for you BFR, unlike you I don't read the DM so wouldn't have a clue what it's view is, unlike yourself. So when it comes to "for once" thinking of something for myself, it will not be from there, you'll be relieved to know. That ok with you or do you want to have another meaningless dig??
........
This is aforum isn't it? Or does it only become a forum when you want to have a dig?

It shouldn't be a competition to see who is the most worthy to be granted the "honour" of some free or cheap Charlton tickets. It's not the X factor.
Let's offer tickets to members of the armed forces AND to local schools (and not all or even most local school kids are "chavs" as suggested earlier)
Let offer cheap tickets to scouts groups or youth football clubs as WELL AS soldiers.
If they are injured fire fighters, police, teachers, nurses etc then offer them tickets as well.

Now I've pulled you on it you are saying it was "light hearted" and "maybe not Greenwich council" Looks like some rapid back tracking there, mate.
And don't confuse me pointing out that you were talking rubbish, as you've already admitted, with me being calm or otherwise.

Oh, you mean the Royal Arsenal. Even more surprised. Not many people work there now. All flats and museums.
We could try the Long Range Snipers up the road. They might be interested : - )
But you were the one who mentioned Greenwich Council...
Greenwich Council is one is his strange little obsessions...
