i think it is a difficult one. he manages to get himself in great positions and does look a constant threat. he also gives us an easy attacking pass as we can just knock it over the top.e gives 100% each time. think he is better than dickson as mcleod alweays wants the ball. also dicksons finishing from what i have seen is alway dodgy. he just looks to blast it, which is not the sign of a good striker.
Not sure what we should do. Shelvey upfront anyone?
If McLeod could finish then he'd be playing in the premier league.
We have to face it that perfect players don't play for league 1 teams.
He's quick, works hard, and causes defences problems.
Like i said, if you add good finishing to those attributes then what you have is basically an England striker. So the day McLeod learns to finish reliably, will also be the day he leaves us.
[cite]Posted By: Covered End[/cite]"He is inconsistent - given - but has flashes of brilliance"
I'll have whatever you're drinking Maglor :-)
Which flashes of brilliance are you referring to precisely ?
Three goals in 3 starts
Yes, but which flashes of brilliance ? :-) One was a deflection against Barnet in the JPT, one was a tap in against Exeter that I could have scored and the 3rd was a good header against Huddersfield. None, unfortunatley could be described as brilliant.
Well The League Paper gave him an 8/10 for his performance so that pretty much just sums up every fan is going on that bad miss in the first half, I saw him tirelessly running at defenders against the gills and had he had more service I'm confident he would of scored. Getting so wound up that he is everyone's scapegoat, even heard some idiot going into the ground chanting "izale mcclown" - what a twat! Burton had a worse game and he should of come off for Mooney, needless to say I've put a bet on McLeod to finish Top League 1 Goalscorer I know as much as I like McLeod it probably won't happen but at the odds of 66/1 I thought why not?
I think Izale is another Luke Varney, works tremendously hard for the team with little end product. Strangely with both of them, I really don't want to slag them off and continue to hope they come good!
McLeod makes defenders panic, and especially at home when you need to stretch defences he is an asset running into the channels and getting behind them. He might not be the best finisher but i still reckon at this level over a season he'll get you an average of a goal every 2 games.

[cite]Posted By: ChrisWhytesBaldhead[/cite]I agree with a lot of what has been said on here, specifically about slagging off our own players. However, i find it so hard to warm to McLeod.
I didn't see him yesterday but at the Huddersfield game he must have spend 60 minutes on his ass. He's a good athelete but his technic is woeful!
Still if he scores the goals which get us back up i'll be more than happy to eat my words
Agree with that, however I really cannot see him scoring on a regular enough basis to justify being a first choice striker.

A goal every 2 games.............FFS Torres can`t do that. McLeod is a player I want to come good but more I see the less I think he has the goals in him to fire us to promotion. If this goalscorer problem isn`t resolved in january I can honestly see us falling away.

Spot on, SHG, although I'm not sure that we can afford to wait until January.
McLeod is an awful footballer. We could have played until it got dark on Saturday and he would not have scored.
With Burton clearly subdued in recent weeks, maybe due to the hernia, we have significant goalscoring problems. Bailey has dried up, Racon is yet to score this season. It's three goals (including Mr Nutter's effort) in five League games since Exeter and our options are looking a bit limited.
Still, not to worry. We are second in the league after 14 matches, and we would all have settled for that at the start of the season, wouldn't we?
Time to fix it, Parky. It may not be 'broke', but the warning signs are there. At the very least, we need to get Bailey and Racon amongst the goals - and wasn't it time for Shelvey after an hour on Saturday?
I'm quite impressed by the way he's bulked up, he's clearly worked hard. Assuming that he's cleaned up his act too, as Sgt. Major Parky seems to be unusually forgiving of him - and let's be clear he was at the top of the poor attitude charts last season. At the moment I'd probably rather see him out there than Burton, but it's not a great choice.
You say all this but we are still the 4th highest scorers in the League ahead of both Leeds with the great Fernando Beckford and Bristol Rovers who have Pele in their team.

Pele has only started 6 games for Rovers though and scored just one less than our top goalscorer who has started all 14 games for us.
Think how many Bristol Rovers would have now if Pele had been playing for them all season.
In fact, Burton hasn't scored in his last 6 matches whereas Pele has not only netted 4 times in that period but also has an assist to his name. Coincidentally, that 5 goals and assists matches the number of goals we as a team have managed in total in those 6 games.
Everyone seems to be forgetting the run of games that Dickson had in our team last season. By all accounts he hardly set the world on fire. Every now and again there comes a time where a player just can't/won't/doesn't want to/ cut the mustard with a particular club, as good as he might be elsewhere at which point it's time for that club to cut losses. It happens all the time - Bent/Spurs, Berbatov/United, Keane/Liverpool...

Let's all look forward to finishing 4th then.
Thats exactly my point. It's not how it works does it?

The facts are that Dicko was never given a run in the starting line up and when he was it was invariably in a 4-5-1 with him being the "1". Most people agree that he's not a "1" but there are some of us who think he should be "1" of the "2" in a 4-4-2.
This is also a big step down in quality so far as Divisions are concerrned. Dicko's goalscoring record for Gillingham/Rovers in League 1 starts read:

Your point presumably is that it is good to be among the higher goal scorers in any League. I can't argue with that ... but are you implying that, by being the 4th highest, we can expect to finish in the top two? If so, your logic escapes me.
How about we aim to be the highest goal scorers (in the words of Brian Clough "in the top one")? That might give us an even better chance of finishing in one of the automatic promotion places ... although it clearly depends on more than that. It would put us at a bit of an advantage, though.
Just think .... that 0-0 draw with Oldham that Parkinson was "pleased with" might have turned into a win.

If he were consistent - he wouldn't be playing for us at this level.
We need to be realistic - none of our players are fantastic otherwise they would be playing in a higher league.

Last year none of our strikers were getting close enough to tap in
