this take me back. When I worshipped the house of John Peel, they were called You've got Foetus on your breath (wash it all off). Impressed that they haven't grown up and are still foetuses (foeti?)
Caravan - 'Live at the Fairfield Halls, 1974'. Along with Soft Machine, Caravan were co-founders of the lyrical, nostalgic and musically-advanced Canterbury scene; 19/8 time signature, anyone? And they are still going: I was at their sell-out gig at the Queen Elizabeth Hall last January. Richard Coughlan, drummer and founder member - later a publican in Whitstable and Canterbury - died on 1 December, aged 66, following ill-health with rheumatoid arthritis.
Thanks, Ken - that's brilliant! Great to see Richard Coughlan, tapping out 19/8 on his knees. He claims to have "invented" this time signature - far-fetched, but he was probably the first drummer to make jazz signatures swing in a rock context.
I Saw Caravan at the Fairfield halls in Croydon about 1973/1974 and i'm pretty sure they played the album For girls who grow plump in the night, the Edgar Broughton band were playing over the road at the Greyhound pub, spoilt for choice eh.

'For Girls Who Grow Plump' was released in 1973, so that's very likely. For the 40th anniversary, last January, Caravan played the album in its entirety on a short tour: still sounds fresh and urgent. Sunday nights at the Greyhound in Croydon were part of my musical education: Atomic Rooster, Budgie, Camel, Canned Heat...

saw Budgie many times on a sunday night at the Greyhound, great gigs and saw Thin Lizzy amongst others.
re greyhound Concerts: Greyhound, Park Lane, Croydon. Roxy Music play support. Bowie's fame is now so great that one thousand people are turned away from this concert on Sunday. A spokesman for David Bowie's management later said " David would like to apologise to all those who were turned away last week. Another gig will be arranged in the area in the near future."/ Saw the sound check by Roxy..... , as I was at the art college, and one of Eno's girlfriend's was a visiting lecturer at the college. Not a bad line up was it?...., but never got to see the gig, no chance!
Snap! Came on my mp3 player at random today and realised I haven't listened to it in ages. Cracking album.
Been ages, started listening and thought that wasn't quite the same (not fresh? dated?) probably 'cos of my age. As the album progressed though it permeated into me just how great it is.
new album with some old songs never released and a great version of the ghost of tom joad. lots of help form rage against the machine guitarist Tom Morello.
