[cite]Posted By: RedZed333[/cite]I feel sorry for Southgate, I know he's a bit of a drip but when you look at the way the Boro has been dismantled right in front of his eyes in recent seasons it's no wonder they're where they are, poor bloke didn't stand a chance...
To some extent that's true but they should still have had enough to be doing better. In pre season they shipped out Huth, Tuncay, Mido, Alves and Downing. It could be argued that Mido and Alves were no great loss and Downing would've been injured up to now anyway. But they've still got the likes of Wheater, Riggott, Hoyte, Arca, Johnson, Aliadiere and Lita who are all more than capable at championship level. Boro hadn't got a single victory against a side in the top half of the championship this season and that's why Gibson felt Southgate had to go.
[cite]Posted By: Weegie Addick[/cite]Strange decision - funny timing given so much loyalty in the past. Can only think that Gibson already has the replacement lined up, but risky move and could put Boro on a very slippery slope.
It seems that wee Gordon has decided that he's had long enough on the sidelines and wants to get back into management and presumably that was the factor that Gibson used to sack Southgate not current form or prospects.
Gibber doesn't have a great record of appointing managers. And he sticks with them way too long. I think Southgate is the first one he sacked, ironically straight after a win.
He has gone with managers in their first post the last three times, can imagine that he'll do the same again.
If a manager is sacked with his team riding high near the top of the table and straight after a win, then surely it's about something other than just results .....?

Gibson made the decision before the win and was partly based on the dwindling attendances. The last game was their lowest ever league attendance at The Riverside.
Middlesbrough remind me off us when we went down, they have had a decent start but have made to look very average against some sides (WBA, Watford and Leicester at home). Seems like us they has faired better away from home without the pressure of home fans. Also think they are very beatable and unlike some other sides near the top, teams will fancy their chances against them. Could see them failing to make the play offs especially if they lose their best player Adam Johnson in the window (sounds familiar)

in that case they should have kept Southgate.
