What's The Best and Worst Piece Of Merchandise The Club Has Produced?

edited October 2009 in General Charlton
Two that stick out in my mind.
1.Sports hold-all. A great big bag with straps and pockets all over. Bright red with a big Charlton badge on the side. I must have had mine 10 years and I still take it to five a side.

2. In our last year in the Prem, the Junior reds were given a medalliaon. It looked like a cross between our badge and an Olympic medal. Our eldest was really miffed that he'd been going for years and never got one, whilst his kid brother picked one up with his first ever season ticket (I notice it's in the biggun's room now though). If anyone from the clubs marketing wing reads this thread - you really ought to produce these annually for the kids to collect - perhaps having bronze, silver and gold for 1, 2 and 3 years JR membership. I'm sure that it would help gain some interest and loyalty amongst younger fans.

  • The CharltonLife Badges are pretty good...........
  • 60s/70s/80s DVD - great memories !
  • [cite]Posted By: Stig[/cite]Thankfully this wasn't official, but if Lennie's fears came true it might have been:

On holiday in Devon many years ago, at some fair or boot sale, a bloke was selling embossed leather wrist straps. You could choose whatever words you wanted and he'd put them on. Our eldest wanted a red one and asked for the word Charlton to be put on it. While he was getting it done I got distracted only to return to find that he'd got what he wanted but with an additional picture of an eagle stamped on it at either end. I asked him what happened and he said that the bloke told him it looked too plain as it was and bunged the eagles on for decoration. I didn't have the time or the heart to have an argument, so I spent the rest of the that holiday figuring out how to cover up the offending eagles. In the end I decided that the best bet was to buy it off him and throw it in the bin.
  • My Charlton platinum red card badge pen and tin I love em!
  • The worst ever was the Ribero Valley Return shirt, with its curly wurly collars

Worst strip was the Quaser/Viglen deck chair away kit!
  • Best - The retro pins of the club badge, and the burro stuff
worst - too many to list
  • The worst - anything of the 'Red Red' range...
  • theres a grey hoody in shop atm, quite nice and would be well good to wear round uni but they have gone and made the logo pink which makes it look very feminine.
Actually their oven gloves are not the best either, was pleased with the purchase but a big disappointment so now it is just there for show at home!
  • best and worst - scored at the Valley Knickers - especially for Ketman, bring em back I say..
  • Sponsored links:

  • the car stickers that were part of the "bring a mate to the match" campaign during the dark days at sellout.
  • March Jnr had a row in the shop last week about the useless oven gloves, he was told no-one had complained etc. etc. & they wouldn't give his money back. He's having another go this week. That's been the worst, the best was a kids red and white body warmer with the badge and 'Charlton' set in a pair of wings, RAF style. Lasted for ages until Jnr just couldn't get in it any more! Still got it in case grandkids ever turn up.
  • The Che Guevara based Derek Hales stuff was one of the few things that stood out amongst the usual tat that gets flogged in the club shop
  • A simple sew on club badge. I sewed it on to a little red sweatshirt for my son, hey presto, a nice little item for about six quid rather than sixteen.
  • Worst - surely has to be the DVD from last year?

Tugwell wouldn't have stood for it eh?

Actually Tugwell was the worst item in the club shop throughout all of the shops history....I had many run ins with him, from his downright rudeness and being hauranged with his 'people like you' rant, or being told he would be back from lunch in 'five minutes' and 90 minutes later he rolls (yes he rolled) in, and his absolutely awful sense of customer relations. Tugwell was a Wimbledon supporter.
  • Best...........Has there ever been something that stands out and a trail blazer.....

Worst...........go on the club shop website...........far to many to mention...........
  • In the 70's the club used to sell 'silk' scarves with imprints of the club logo all over it and six inch long tassles neatly strung on each end...

After one wash it was just a plain red scarf and one or two straggly bits of string...

does that qualify (does it actually exist?)
  • [cite]Posted By: AFKABartram[/cite]The worst ever was the Ribero Valley Return shirt, with its curly wurly collars

I thought the centenary shirt was worst. The design was nice but the quality awful.

Good call - That was great.

Also love my Charlton pint mug. Think I'll have to get it out this evening.

  • those hats that was the shape of tea cosy's are the worst things ive seen
  • I love my premier addicks mug, circa '98, but it has now lost most of the lettering and sword after too many runs through the dishwasher. I wonder if we will ever have the opportunity to buy another one? Premier Addicks 2012 would be great!
  • I had one of those pottery type tea mugs, smaller at the top than the base. Holding it full of tea one day and the bottom fell out: tea all over me boots! Reckon the potter was having a 'Ghost' moment with Demi Moore when he made it!
  • Best Playoff '98 dvd

Worst is the mug celebrating the double over Palace

    I own both!
  • Most bizarre retail choice was only introducing pint glasses last year. Who are the target audience and what do they drink a lot of?? My local collects them and we were virtually the only club missing and there were some very small clubs featured.

The black on black scarf in the shop now is cool.

The soccer chick range is rubbish and chavy.
  • Black on black scarf? Does that mean it is just a plain black scarf? Probably pick one up in Primark for 50p.
  • my other half has a mug that says "charlton athletic fc. we'll be back. on loan to division one."

i think it was meant to show our intentions after relegation from the premiership.
it can be also used now.
  • The best is the massive scarf, literally about 15 foot long and about a foot wide. Blue on one side and red on the other - think it was around the time we did the tie up with Inter (ha).
  • Best must be my brown pottery 'Back to the Valley' mug which I use every day , goes in the dish washer and looks as good as the day I bought it.

Worst , the black mug with the Charton badge which turned into just a black mug with no badge in weeks !!

As soon as i saw this thread the sports hold-all immediately sprang to mind! Had this when I was at school and regretted it instantly as the most embarrassing P.E bag of all time.
