Kap - I would have felt exactly the same as Hereford. Oh Well - we dont need more distractions we all know how thin the squad is at the moment, I personally feel its a big risk playing Bailey etc in games like this.
Yeh decent to win and no doubt I will hear the usual childish 'its ridiculous people can find anything to moan at' etc, but personally I would have rather we got knocked out and could get back to focusing on the league.
You seem to be missing the point CPA, as I said earlier as we go further the temptation will come in to play the full first team. It was only a couple of days ago that people were on here agreeing how weak the squad as a whole was. Surely the Llera situation showed this. So the first team are playing midweek, a couple get knocks and it could really have a major impact on the season.
I'm with you AFKA, I had a great evening it was good to see the quad players getting a decent run out. I thought Tuna had improved loads since the last time I saw him and it was good to see goals from him and Waggy. What happened to Mcloud? Cramp was it?
Just got back in, not a great standard of football and little to pedestrian at times for me but it was good to see some of the youngsters holding their own, baileys free kick and waggys goals were great shots, was disappointed with izale thought he was really poor and even the tier below us I cant see just how he managed to score so many goals for MK. If Burton had been up top with Tuna we could have easily hit 6 or 7! Was impressed with Baseys presence if he gets a good run of games can see him making a great captain, maybe not with us though. Was constantly comunicating and directing players. Never sat in the West stand before, prob wont again, the view is great but no atmosphere, and I felt so out of place trying to chant and cheer on the team.
And was surprised how many corners they had without ever causing any real threats/problems, they must have had 15/20 corners
Elliot - good hands generally, 2 good saves Solly - Great crunching tackles for such a small fella, but looked out of position and defensively not great, good going forward thou Basey - Looked fine at CB and then at LB, not really good enough with his head but will do a job there if we need him to Dailey - Held back four together, didnt win as much as usual in the air thou Youga - Another good solid game Bailey - Good game, drove midfield forward, great free kick for his goal Spring - Had a fairly solid game, little too pedestrian at times thou Racon - Wasnt ever really in the game, wriggled free a few times and should have atleast hit the target more, hope his knock isnt too bad, was limping down tunnel thou after the match Wagstaff - looked dangerous all night, great finish for his goal, but didnt cover/help out solly enough in first half for my liking Tuna - Great first 45 min, good finish should really have got another also played some delightful through balls, would like to see him getting more time on the pitch this season deff comin on ahead of izale Izale - Was suprised just how quick he can be, but he has a horendous touch, with the chances he had he should have scored at least a hat trick, also doesnt seem to understand the concept of the offside rule, strikes the ball extremely poorly and is shite in the air. Maybe he was just having an off day!
Shelvy - showed some real touches of class, we retained the ball noticebly more once he was on the pitch, had a little more direction about ourselves Stavinrou - Barely noticed him to be honest, but didnt do anything wrong as far as I remember Mambo - Can he head a ball further than sodje?! Game was already over really when he came on but its all good experience for him
Parky - Selection was spot on I felt, still enough to win the game but got a lot of youngsters involved, subs were sensible brought on shelvy to almost play out the game, mambo for solly again expecting lots of long balls and bigger man in to help deal with them
All in all excellent value for a fiver but the atmosphere was shockingly bad
We won in a very open game where both teams tried to play good football and we had some cracking goals.
We came from a goal behind to win as well and Barnet clearly wanted to progress. All the fringe players did well and it would have been a valuable exercise for them. I'm sure both they and Parkinsella will feel more confident of slotting in to the league side as needed.
Can say I saw Mambo's debut and Tuna's first goal.
And CAFC in a quarter final constitutes a cup run in my eyes but I'm not going to the next leg if it anywhere but Orient or the Valley.

scruffle....The West Stand yesterday would have had tons of North Standers in there....just thought I'd point that out to you.
pretty entertaining game, gotta disagree with a few posters above as personally I thought (goals aside) McCleod, Tuna and Waggy were pretty woeful. Got help us if either Burton or Shelvey get injured....McCleod's first touch is shocking, Waggy is still way to lightweight and constantly has one eye on where a tackle is coming from rather than concentrating on running with the ball. Tuna is no way ready for the first team, certainly not if we are looking at finishing in the top 2,
Liked Mambo when he came on and you could hear him commanding the back 4 right from his first touch, he has the potential to become a legend I reckon.
Like I said entertaining game, but our squad is painfully thin............I wonder how many Dickson would've scored last night playing in that 442?, I suspect he'd have looked alot sharper than the 2 who did play.
We say the squad is painfully thin, yet at the same time put 4 with ease past a side a league lower than us.
I saw a little more in Mcleod than others seem to have. Also thought Tuna showed glimpses of a decent player, though i'm not convinced what his best position will be and i've a feeling no one else does. Wagstaff is a big improvement on 12 months ago, but still looks more an impact player than a starter. A very good goal really lifted what was an average display from him. Solly i have fears may not quite be at the level we need.

It's amazing mate how people view the game so differently, as I personally thought Solly was the pick of the bunch (of young'uns) last night
I thought Solly & Tuna were decent, not ready to start just yet but look promising. The sum up my feelings on McCleod, I think we should try and sell him, and that is no knee jerk reaction.
As for the cup trophy itself, it wouldn't have bothered me if we lost but it's always nice to see a win! Hopefully we won't suffer any injuries in it. It annoys me (to put it politely) that we have to play a certain amount of first team players. I would love to see them try and impose that rule on Alex Ferguson and the Carling Cup.
Really enjoyable evening, starting with a meal and a bottle of wine in that nice little Thai restaurant in Charlton Church Lane. Thought we started the game slowly and may be going behind was a good thing as it concentrated us.
Some idiot behind us shouted ''get back to the bench!'' every time one of the youngsters touched the ball and his mates seemed to find this very clever and/or amusing (who on earth are these people?). But I thought the kids were mostly excellent. Liked the look of Solly. Wagstaff was OK and took his goal with huge aplomb. You could see Tuna growing in confidence and he played some lovely through balls...
It's a measure of how well the youngsters played that although you would have expected Racon, Bailey, Dailly and later Shelvey to dominate and boss, they didn't really and their less experienced colleagues held their own alongside them.
I agree McLeod's touch is poor but his running and positioning was good, I thought. Basey for me was hugely impressive, and got even better when he moved to left back.
Went home with a very warm glow and it's still lingering this morning. I respect anyone who has a different opinion but I confess I am a little surprised by some of the criticisms.
As son Adam observed to me at the end: ''That's exactly the sort of game we would have lost on penalties if we were still a prem or championship side'' !!!

Whilst everyone will see your point that we'd rather promotion than a cup run, looking at the fixtures it's one extra game a month, that's not going to trouble us too much. Plus winning breeds confidence and at the same time we're blooding some youngsters. Ask Tuna, Mambo, Stavrinou, Solly and Wagstaff if they enjoyed last night, it can only benefit us.
If results in the league start to suffer as a result of us concentrating on this cup then i'll agree with you but if we can get through the rounds with half the first team then it's all good.
Charlton for the double!!
"It was more than a useful work out for us. Barnet are a good side. We've had them watched over the last few games and we knew we couldn't take them lightly.
"After going a goal down, it's about reactions, and we kept passing the ball and moving. I thought it was an excellent night for us. It was a combination of our experienced players showing a fantastic attitude and our younger players taking their opportunity.
"We wanted to keep the momentum going after our good start and we picked a team that could do that. This competition is about getting the attitude right in the first few rounds because all of a sudden the prize of getting to Wembley gets ever closer.
"The league is our priority, of course. But there are a lot of happy players in that dressing room, the youngsters are on a massive high and that's great for them.”
The inclusion of Rob Elliot, Chris Solly, Grant Basey, Wagstaff and Tuna meant five academy products were in Charlton's starting XI, with four more in reserve, including Alex Stavrinou and Yado Mambo, the latter taking to the fray in the second period for his first appearance in a red shirt.
"We threw on young Yado, who has been on work experience at Welling United, and he made a contribution,” declared Parkinson. "Tamer Tuna really showed us what we see every day in training; that he's got a fantastic football brain and is a very clever player. Scott Wagstaff obviously scored again and it was good night for us. They're going to be 10-foot tall when they walk into Sparrows Lane on Thursday.
"With Yado we can do it [the work experience] on a match-to-match basis. It's been great for his development. He's a colossus of a fella and when he goes for those headers, other players tend to get out of the way, and that's what you want from your centre-backs.
"Grant is looking to nail down a position. He's played centre-back when he's younger and we've been working on his heading, fitness and athleticism in training.
"He's got a very good football brain, he reads situations very well and we put him at left-back for the last half an hour and his fitness was very good. We have got a very small squad and you need versatile players in your squad.”
Those youngsters could yet again feature against Oldham Athletic on Saturday, with Parkinson admitting he has several injury doubts for the weekend's clash, including the right-sided pair of Frazer Richardson and Lloyd Sam.
However, Therry Racon and McLeod are expected to be available, despite being substituted against Barnet.
"Therry got a whack on the cheekbone and I wanted to give Alex Stavrinou an opportunity tonight after how well he did at Hereford United in the Carling Cup,” stated Parkinson. "Izale just had cramp. He ran himself into the ground tonight and his attitude was first class.
"Miguel Llera had a bit of a virus but he was also on four bookings and we didn't want to risk him with Sam Sodje away on international duty on Saturday. Jose Semedo's looking better and Leon McKenzie is back in training.
"We're disappointed to lose Frazer and Lloydy and we won't know until Thursday how long they'll be out for. That was the reason we took Solly off early. To ask him to do 90 minutes would have been a lot if he does get that spot on Saturday.”
And there you have it.
Solly has a good run out (I thought did well) before perhaps starting on Saturday. Other young players on a real high, the team is winning.
Yes, there is always a danger of an injury but Semedo was injured in training so what can you do.
Thought Mcleod gave them problems with his pace and running but his touch and finishing were iffy. Tuna's first touch let him down a few times but when he got on the ball he used it well and took his goal very well.
Spring looks confident picks up the pieces and just passes the ball to a red shirt every time.
bit surprised with comments on here about McLeod. I think some fans are always going to be on his back whatever he does. Last night I thought he ran his nuts off, chased everything, never gave up, scored, 100% committed. If that isn't enough then what is. If he isn't good enough that's another issue.
Was happy with the youngster's although Wagstaff needs to get involved more, showed he can finish though. Tuna isn't an out and out striker for me but more suited in the hole in a 4-5-1. Solly did ok as did Stav when he came on. Mambo is ike a brick outhouse but won a couple of towering headers. Basey had an excellant game at CH and later at LB. The others did enough, nothing more. All in all an enjoyable game although it remeinded me of being at a reserve game, just a bigger crowd. Anyone at home in the next round please.
Excellent post-match comments by Parky. For once I have to agree with every word he says. Intelligent, thoughtful stuff without any of the brainless cliches devoid of meaning which they must already be starting to get sick off down in Southampton.
Parky describes the match that I actually saw. And how rare is it that any manager ever does that ? !!!
I said beforehand it may be a blessing in disguise if we lost. Having seen last night it has changed my mind. Tuna, Basey, Mambo, Stav, Solly and Wagstaff will all have benefited from the game. All could be big players in future although none are ready for an extended run yet. I would also think Spring and Mcleod will have benefited not playing much football. So only perhaps Bailey, Youga and Dailly would have benefited from a rest - so more plusses. Hopefully also Parky learnt something about his players. I wouls have though that one of the things is underlining how woeful Mcleod is.

(Area) Semifinal the week of December 14th
(Area) two leg Final... first the week of January 18th, second the week of February 15th
Final on March 28th.
Doesn't seem like a trophy run will distract too terribly from the league.
And that i got.
Couple of cracking goals, and Barnet more than played their part, despite us getting almost an emphatic win without really getting out of 2nd gear.
Still think its a joke of a competition, and still have no interest in us being in it. Just nice to watch a decent game.

Maybe it's where we've came from that we dismiss the JPT, wonder if the same debate is happening on Leeds or Franchise messageboards
