Concensus seems to be that the first was offside the second was not and we should have had a penalty -mind you I thought they should have had a pen at the end too, so it should have been 3-2 to us.
[cite]Posted By: Leroy Ambrose[/cite]They didn't show the first (which was definitely offside) but they did show the second and it didn't look even close to offside.
Burtons about 4/5 yards onside when the ball is played, unbelieveble decision
[quote][cite]Posted By: Saints fan[/cite]Nowhere near offside.
I reckon this wrong decision played a part in why our penalty shout late on was turned down. Would have caused trouble in the home ends.[/quote] Tru dat. From the other end of the ground it looked a nailed-on pen to me - but then again, we should have had a penalty for the clumsy challenge on Sam halfway through the second half.

The whole game was getting very hot headed imo - players from both sides were sliding in from everywhere and the referee simply bottled several decision. For us and for you. He couldn't handle it imo.

A few of your lot were niggling quite a bit, and persistently annoying, but certainly not what I'd call especially dirty. I think the ref was poor, but I've seen worse down the Valley. I've now watched the second ruled-out goal about five times, in slow mo, and even though its not the best angle, Burton is clearly - and I mean CLEARLY onside. How the ref and lino contrived to f*** that one up I'll never know. Worst offside decision I've seen down there for about ten years - since that c*** Ashley Ward scored for Blackburn from five yards offside and it was allowed to stand.
I have not had the benefit of seeing any TV footage , but even from my position in the east I would have to say I thought the second goal was clearly onside. My take on it was that the "scorer" ran onto a flicked-on header......and for this to happen yu are usually BEHIND the player who flicks it on for you to score. (make sense ?)
Deon Burton drew the Addicks level with a header after keeper Kelvin Davis failed to deal with a cross from the lively Jonjo Shelvey.
Charlton had the ball in the net twice more but both efforts were correctly ruled out for offside, while Kelly Youga struck the post with a low strike.
But the Addicks, who have now fielded the same starting XI for all seven League One fixtures, could not find a winning goal and now lead the table on goal difference from Leeds United.
for the 2nd was burton still onside when the ball was headed on?
We were on top at that point and would have gone onto win imho if either had stood but thems the breaks. On another day Yougas shot goes in. Draw was fair enough and saints will take points off other good sides.
burtons was going wide was right behind it,if he had got a proper touh on it would have gone straight in without jonjo's touch, seemed to flick off his shoulder
The officials are terrible in this league - much worse then The Championship (Who I thought were really bad after our drop from the Premiership).
The referee was not the worst I had seen though - A couple weeks at Stockport we were denied a penalty, It was even more of a penalty than our shout yesterday. Then we went up the other end and managed to get a 2nd goal which would have killed Stockport off but no - Saganowski was offside even though he was behind two Stockport players and the ball even clipped off one of them.

I think the officials are better. The offside goal on Saturday was the only seriously bad decision this season.
both teams should've had a pen, us on Sam and Saints near the end.....first disallowed goal looked correct, Burton flicked it and it looked like it was going in to me, if Jonjo had left it I think it would've counted, but unfortunately he touched it in - not blaming him as I'd had done the same.
2nd one was laughable, even from my seat in the North Upper I didn't need a slow motion replay to tell me that Burton was a clear 3 or 4 yards onside !!, shocking decision.

re The first disallowed goal: Burton's flick was definately going wide. We were right in line with it. (Block N North Upper)

[cite]Posted By: cfgs[/cite]I thought the worst tackle all game was Semedo's "equaliser" he went in intending to catch their player and did
Que?
Perhaps you mean Lloyd Sam colliding with the goalie as he tried to head in Jonjo's superb cross, leaving Deon free to knock it in?
I meant as in getting your own back, Sam had just beenm buffeted by three of their players and Semedo came roaring in and left one of their's in a heap
[cite]Posted By: Rothko[/cite]Benefit of the doubt goes to the attacking side doesn't it?
Certainly not in the current laws of the game and you won't find any tutor saying so either. At best it's a directive/advice on application handed out by FIFA. Spankie might be able to say more conclusively as he referees at a higher level than me but AFAIK any such directive went out ages ago.
Same goes for the clear daylight thing.
To clarify, if any part of an attacking player, that he is allowed to play the ball with is nearer the goal than the second last defender he is deemed to be in an offside position. So it could just be the head, leg, part of the torso, as you can imagine that can lead to some very close calls.

Took this screenshot on SaintsPlayer, very close call.
Yeah, tbh I can't remember any of our players appealing.
