[cite]Posted By: SpicedAddick[/cite]Fair play Saints Fan, nice honest appraisal -
You said some nice things about the best fans in the league too. Cheers
PMSL at this though:
[cite]Posted By: Saints fan[/cite]Especially when you sang something about Valley Road?
I was talking to my mate at the time - I couldn't make out what was being chanted! Sounded good though.
I thought it was a decent game today. Southampton stopped us playing in the first half and were good value for their lead, Lambert was the best centre forward I've seen us come up against so far.
Second half we stepped up a gear and were unlucky not to win. Second offside goal looked ok to me and the penalty appeal looked nailed on.
The officials were absolutely s**t, missing nasty niggly fouls and blowing up for nothing at other times. Pardew seems to have installed a cynical attitude there (something other fans complained of when he was here) and Southampton players were happy to roll around in mock agony at the slightest hint of contact.
[cite]Posted By: Saints fan[/cite]Just got back - decent day.
First thing I would like to say is a good game imo.
I felt like we were the better side in the first half - we had more of the ball and you were reduced to long range efforts and snap shorts. The keeper did a very good save from our player in the first couple of minutes but then from my view he brought our player down? It looked like a penalty - but would have been a soft one.
Second half was a different story, you came out and played great imo - deserved to get it back to 1-1, then you scored again - I can't comment on that goal as I was up the other end but your other disallowed goal looked miles onside. Then the game changed for the final 10 minutes when we brought Jaidi on who gave us some much needed steel in the back 4. We began to attack a bit more and were very unlucky not to get a penalty in the closing stages when your defender took down Mellis just as he turned him.
Overall - Charlton had the better chances, very unlucky with that disallowed goal - Saints on the other hand had a decent amount of the ball, but we struggled to get any decent goalscoring attemps going.
I was very impressed with Racon and Sam today - Sam gave Harding a very hard time. Harding has been by far our best outfield player this season but was average at best today.
Another thing that impressed me today was the atmosphere from both sets of fans - in the first half the home ends died down a bit as your team hadn't gave you much to chant about but in the second half it was rocking and the away end died down. Especially when you sang something about Valley Road? Much better atmosphere at The Valley then Selhurst.
Another thing that suprised me was the fact that you actually supported your side and didn't let the Pardew return turn the atmosphere into a nasty one.
Great post, well summed up, as much as I feel slightly robbed i'm still happy with a point esp since leeds and huddesfield only drew as well. but also thought Trootman, Hammond and Harding got away with murder all game all three should have been booked for persistant fouling in first 20 min. I also couldnt believe how the best part of 20k people were so quiet in first half, atmosphere was so flat, 2nd half was quality though prob the best its been this season, deff the loudest
