Should Rommedahl be in that team?
Hated watching that guy not being able to beat anyone and put in weak crosses for us week in week out and then go on International duty and win Man of the Match and set up every goal with pin point crosses.
Cannot understand that choice either, thought despite giving us the V sign after a goal he turned out to be an inspirational player for us in the promotion year & our first year in First Division.
After he left for Leeds he lost no time in slagging us off in the press and went out of his way to cheat and foul his way into securing a victory for Leeds in the play-off final at St Andrews. If you'd been there you'd recall that he got booked for jumping up and palming down a through ball that was going way over his head and would have put our right-winger a clean run at their defence.
A great piece of play had it been a basketball court, but not on a football pitch.
For those with longer memories, Mullery was definitely an even bigger c*** than Pardew. But if we're talking most hated ex-players the buck stops firmly with Pitcher. Ans absolute, utter wankstain of the highest order.
Andy Nelson .....up there with Pardew, as my most hated manager.
He even won us promotion from the Third Division in 1975, taking Theo Foley's team and getting it promoted.
But he was a cold, aloof man, modelled himself on Alf Ramsey, I suppose ........ and stayed manager way past his sell by date, Pardew-like, as the club gradually shrivelled away from within. He wouldn't resign, and hung on until relegation was inevitable - then Gliksten fired him. Mike Bailey, ex-60's Charlton skipper and England international, took over for the last part of the season, but the damage with the players' morale was done.
Mike Bailey turned the club round that summer, just like Parky seems to have done, and moulded a promotion side that won an instant return to the Second Division. History about to repeat itself .... ?
The parallels with 30 years ago are incredible. Folks, we've been through this movie before .......
The warmest and most supporter friendly manager award goes to ....... Theo Foley.
Always looked out for us away supporters, always seemed to find us complimentary tickets, always found time to talk to us about the football.
And sometimes he'd like a drink with us, but that's another story ....!!

Oh I hope not Oggy, we ousted probably the most underrated manager we ever had in Mike Bailey and ended up with old Mullers.

Saddened that you have not been reading the 80/81 season thread on this very topic, oggy
Didn't like Pardew as a player. I recognised his importance to us, but that's a different matter. I hated the fact he was a major goal threat bursting in the box. I know that is important but when you see a Palace twat on legs steaming into the box and missing 90% of his quite good chances, it really pissed me off. Remember in those days we were solid with good players but seriously blunt up front. Pardew wasted the majority of our good work, but without his goals we may have been relegated. For me he was a symbol of necessity, but one not a patch on pre-injury Colin Walsh or Robert Lee a few short years before.
As for a manager it's not worth going into. Yes he is my most disliked manager, and yet is one whom we held in high hopes; the worst kind.
I can't hate players cos they were crap or overpaid, and sometimes the loyalty thing is hard to swallow, clubs soon enough serve their own interests above a players if needs be.
I think its more about how people conduct themselves, of course loyalty can come into that too, and perhaps effort or lack of it.
Hadn't seen it, Henry...... just sometimes I have to get proper work done and can't read every thread, ha ha!
Edit
Right just found it revived - I see it was August 27 thread - I was away for a week over the Bank Holiday, hadn't seen it and must have been well off the page by the time I logged on again.
I also don't have the same the bad feelings towards him as manager.
I accept his attitude was arrogant at times and that he probably came to us as a stepping stone to further his career after getting sacked at WHU. He certainly didn't come to manage us with the intention to fail. He gave it his best shot to turn things around but it didn't happen, that's what happens in football sometimes.
The North Stand were shouting for Pardew to be installed as manager before any move was made for him, so the fans wanted him in the first place.
No. Always liked Pardew as a player, its a shame he's such an arrogant manager who really cocked it up here. Darren Pitcher has to be the most hated player surely.
the bloke should've walked like Reed did, then I would have had some iota of respect for him, but no he's just like these money grabbing politicians no honour or respect.

He left by mutual consent, how is that not walking.

Pardew was a decent player for us.

He was sacked and got a huge payout, he clung on as he knew resigning he would get nowt forcing us to sell a player to pay him..
I dislike nearly all footballers, bar a few lucky selected ones!
Managers: Lennie, Curbs deserve massive respect. I also think Les Reed does too.
Pardew & Dowie can get f*cked. They don't want careers, they just want to hop on the gravy train to which ever mug chairman is foolish to take them and ready to be fleeced.

I am sure I read on the OS that he left by mutual consent. I accept that was probably in the wake of the boards suggestion. Non the less he still walked even though he went with a pay off.

Thats open to interpretation and I don't agree he was as you are saying 'all the time'

You are seriously suggesting Pards wasn't sacked? OK that is your prerogative.
I dont have any ill feeling towards Pardew. Whilst maybe a bit arrogant I think he genuinely tried his best with us and although some of his signings/ tactics were questionable we were in a period of instability after Curbs left.
A dodgy decision against fulham aside and it could have all panned out so differently. Cant understand why he will get stick if he does.

Really hard to pick a keeper from the last 20 years! I'm sure some would say Weaver, but I think that would be a bit harsh.
Hated watching that guy not being able to beat anyone and put in weak crosses for us week in week out and then go on International duty and win Man of the Match and set up every goal with pin point crosses.
I had to fit him in somewhere tho didn't I?
Absolutely agree with that and have changed my list accordingly.

Pardew is just a useless manager like Dowie who had a couple of lucky seasons with other clubs.
I think Pitcher is probably the nearest, no2 for me to Pards

I think we need to lay off pards a bit. This has been blown well out of proportion

Charlton: Nice bunch of nancy boys or something like that Dunphy said in his book if I remember rightly.
A dodgy decision against fulham aside and it could have all panned out so differently. Cant understand why he will get stick if he does.
Player: Eamon Dunphy, apart from being a shiite player, he used to tell the kids to 'fcuk off' when asked for his signature after the game...
