Think this week will be interesting for Parky and how he builds the team up.
Does he go for just another game or wind up a few players with reason to dislike pardew?
Focusing on pardew and last season could back fire by reminding now confident players of less happy times.
In publlic Im sure PP will play it down but in private I wonder if he and kins will have a few words in chosen ears
Just a short while ago, Charlton v Southampton was a Premiership fixture.
An attractive marketing plan could have gone a good way to get bums on every home seat, tempt the disillusioned stay-aways back, and hopefully give them the incentive to come again regularly to witness quality top of the League football.
The result could have been improved atmosphere and bigger crowds throughout the season.
Pardew ? Sure, it'll give the game an extra edge, but it shouldn't be about him. Supporting our team is all that matters, not baiting him.
It's all about the football really. I suspect that if Southampton have a 'style' it won't be the accoustomed third division fare...bish bash, long ball, in yer face, work rate, set pieces type stuff which we have seen, typically by (from the matches I've seen) Wycombe, Orient, Walsall and Brentford. Southampton are likely to have players with pretentions, and the ability to hurt you if you let them....the typical example might be players like Bouazza, good if you allow them to play, and don't impose your own game on them.
I would hope that Parkinson will try to focus on encouraging our players to build on what they have established, not get involved in the nature of the game (the crowd will do that bit), we must must must try to keep posession. We don't have to go hell for leather to score, but have an ice cold focus and realisation that we're good individually, and good as a team because of what we do already. Southampton are more likely to want to play, rather than do the bish bash thing, and the evidence shows that at the moment we're playing better than them.
I don't want Llera, or Shelvey, or any of the others to be rushed and excited into errors....play with a steely stare into their eyes, and keep the blimmin ball. If we go a goal down, don't immediately despair, but keep cool and play.
I would also suggest that Parkinson keeps the players fit, and practices a few set plays, even diverting the players in training with a couple of 'moves' to try in the match.
If we hold our nerve we should get a result.
[cite]Posted By: Cordoban Addick[/cite]Could we also give Chris Perry (if selected) a resounding round of applause. Just to let Pardew know that we still like to cheer some ex players.
I doubt Perry will play if Jaidi's permit comes through.
[cite]Posted By: Southendaddick[/cite]This will be over 20k as there will be a decent away support.
I have a horrible feeling about this game...
Normally i'd be nervous because our old manager's going to come back, we're going to abuse him, and he hasn't won a game yet. sounds like swindon at home to me.
But think how many of our players have a point to prove to pardew. The players who were there last year should be well up for this one. If Izzy or Wagstaff come on, they'd love to show pardew what they're worth. Plus Parky won't want to lose this one.
Plus, i thought it said in the programme that saints were going to fill the jimmy seed?
[cite]Posted By: se7oaks[/cite]Pardews ego would have been well and truly pandered to when we used to sing Sooper Alan Pardew so how about one more time with a resounding NOT at the end. Seriously if we just give him a bit of stick at the beginning and then get on with getting behind Parky and the boys he'll get the message. He may be an arrogant twat but he's not stupid. And i'm sure that from his time as AP's no.2 he'll know how to get the team up for this and find the best way to send the Saints home on the wrong end of a good hiding.
It would be lovely to absolutely tonk them and then give a sarcastic chant of Super Al' as he sloped off down the tunnel after the game, although he's so egotistical theres a danger he would take it at face value!
I'm not sure that hyping this fixture up is a good idea - in theory it makes for some spicy headlines, but if anything happens then the club could be seen to have egged on the situation. I think everyone knows what's at stake and the players - most of whom were here under Pardew - and fans shouldn't need motivating. If they do - then something's wrong.
