saints at home

edited September 2009 in General Charlton
Is it me or have the club missed a trick here, this game should be 10 quid adults 5 for kids or as some lower league clubs do buy one get one free, we should have the valley packed to the rafters and rocking just to show that t#at pardew that no matter how badly he 'raped' our club were all behind parky and this amazing little team he has built up. Just an idea but a full house would be awsome for this one..

  • Not a bad call, one thing I would say is let's show pards by getting behind our team rather than a vitriolic atmosphere against him. I don't think that would help anyone
  • Disagree. The fans should turn up to support the team and Parkie, they should not need a ticket reduction to induce them to turn up. Ticket reductions should be used for the unattractive games, like Hatlepool or Stock port.
  • Fair point mate, but at a guess 17 to 18k max for this one.. still 10k empty seats tho dude.
  • Maybe the solution is not so much price reduction, but strong marketing and promotion of the match. This is a match that could take heavy promotion with strong rally call messages, although its a bit late to stsart now.

That was part of my point mate, this should have been right up there on the list, maybe because of recent issues off the pitch (maze hill, the trouble last year) they didn't wana hype this one up? Don't want nearly 27k people around the area, old bill must have considered a 12 30pm kick off I would have thought.

Just the appearance of Pardew seems to me to be a very strong rallying call for Charlton supporters. No need for incentives, whilst I fully intend to sing and cheer wildly for Parky and the team, I first want a chance to greet Pardew in the way I feel he deserves. After that, I'll behave in a manner more suited to an ageing woman. (Husband muttering 'yeh right' in background.)
  • Or maybe just a reduced marketing / communications team, that did not have time to think about it. Agreed then that there has been insufficient promotion of the game, although its not too late to send out an e-mail to everybody on the database for whom they have an e-mail address (which I think is every st holder last season).

    How about a daily e-mail -
"5 days till the return of Pardew - can you afford to miss it?"
"4 days till the retunr of Pardew - last time a manager returned to THe Valley he lost 4-0 - can you afford to miss it?"
"3 days till the return of Pardew - last time he was here he lost 5-2, will history repeat it self - have you got your ticket yet!"

    etc. etc.
  • This will be over 20k as there will be a decent away support.

I have a horrible feeling about this game...

I always have a horrible feeling about the next game - for the last few years I have been right.
  • We're coming down from Lancashire for this one,but like Southend I have a bad feeling about it - the team that hasn't lost against the team that hasn't won, and pardew.
But let's just ignore pardew and get behind our team, then if we win have a right go at pardew as he leaves the field.

  • Noooo, lets not ignore Pardew. The atmosphere on Saturday, before the game has to be the most intimidating that Southampton have ever played in.

I agree we shouldn't ignore Pardew but i think we want to make the atmosphere demoralising for Southampton rather than intimidating (and more likely to get Pardew the sack) Chants such as

    Two times.
He took us down two times
He took us down two times
he took us down two times.
    Two times........

    or

(to the Paulo Di Canio tune)

    What's your excuse today
    What's your excuse today.....

or to the 'one team in London' chant.

    waste all your money
He's gonna waste all your money
    Waste all your money
He's gonna waste all your money

you don't know what your doing

    etc.
  • Nice, if they are sung by the whole crowd (as if) demoralising and intimidating

Great new songs and easy to sing.

I see both points of view .... the Pardew match should be a rallying call for all Charlton supporters anyway, especially with the team playing so well - and shouldn't need marketing.

Unfortunately, I doubt if it will be like that.

Police input aside, I tend to agree with Adam ..... this is a terrific marketing opportunity at a reduced price incentive to fill every seat in the ground. It's not totally about revenue for that individual match, but an opportunity to bring back the rocking atmosphere of a full crowd fully motivated on the day, and let the stay-aways and perhaps new supporters see how well the team can perform.

That could build new enthusiasm for those stay-aways disillusioned by the performances of the past 2 years.
Then we could have higher crowds every week.
  • Obviously, I really don#t think its about price. Charlton Southampton has the potential to be a fantastic product, if it were marketed in the right way it would be a strong draw to the crowds and then the dual objectives of revenue and crowd are achievable.
  • "Waste all your money" - easy to sing, i can see that catching on to people who would not normally sing

    god I hope we win........
  • Hopefully there will be 20,000 at the Valley hoping the same next saturday
  • Would be nice....
  • We should be looking at 1,000+ I doubt we will take anything more then 1,500 which is very poor considering we usually have a very good following up The Valley.

Didn't go last season but from what I remember it was a very good game which both teams could have won. You dominated the first half - we dominated the second half.

Both squads have imo improved a bit from there and they are very matched, just one is sky high on confidence and the other isn't.

Could someone tell me how long the train takes from Waterloo to Charlton? I can't remember.

Also any pubs that welcome the away fans?

    Thanks.

How long is the train from Waterloo East to Charlton?

About 8 carriages mate. Could you do me a favour and note the numbers down for me please? Ta
  • Opposite the station (15 -20 mins) is the Antigallican which is the away supportersd pub, but you will be more than welcome in the Rose of Denmark, turn left out of the station then left at the traffic lights on tot he Woolwich Road, keep walking passt the BP garage and its on yr left
  • disagree on special promotions or the OS bigging up the Pardew factoe. Dont make it all about him and stroke his ego. Get behind our team and our manager. Sure enjoy the songs on the day but dont make the club look cheap or that this is our cup final. It's not. And the hollie history is another reason to not go OTT. Mention the return of Pardew but that is enough.
Deerentials between ST and match day x 23 prices so save the cheapos for Barnet at home.
    And club needs to keep

Agree with all of this. We've got a long history of baiting exes and having them come back and haunt us, but Pardew doesn't deserve special status. Plus the club will enjoy a good revenue for this match and hopefully a few more will come back anyway and see what they're missing.
  • Pardews ego would have been well and truly pandered to when we used to sing Sooper Alan Pardew so how about one more time with a resounding NOT at the end. Seriously if we just give him a bit of stick at the beginning and then get on with getting behind Parky and the boys he'll get the message. He may be an arrogant twat but he's not stupid. And i'm sure that from his time as AP's no.2 he'll know how to get the team up for this and find the best way to send the Saints home on the wrong end of a good hiding.
  • Pardew deserves all the abse we can give him do not lay off anyone. "Waste all your money" chat i think is perfect.
  • *Abuse* sorry guys over excited and making spelling errors again :-)
  • All good things come to an end but please not next week!
