Izale not a Clown - FACT

edited September 2009 in General Charlton
Felt that Izales cameo performance showed a lot of promise, althogh off side took his ruled out goal well and generally looked a threat. With Mcenzine coming in we could have real competition in for the forwards positions in a 4-4-2. Maybe McLeod is losing his nickname.

  • I was ready to have a go then lol
  • well, I've never used that derogatory nickname for him. Did well when he came on. One good shot saved and finished well from a cahnce that was about six inches offside at best. Unlike Dickson it seems he has got his head down, worked hard and is determined to make it work. Good on him. Shame he didn't score as that would have worked wonders for his confidence and put pressure on the others.
  • I don't like that nickname either and find it a bit unjustified really. Give the lad a break and change the thread title mate.
  • yes change it to izale the clown. It isn't his fault pardew paid £900k too much for him, still hasn't scored at the valley in
over 2 years but at least he tries. In all seriousness i hope he proves me wrong but I gave him that name and as yet he hasn't proved me wrong, but you can't fault his effort only his ability.
  • I think another 5 mins and he would have scored......
  • Ok, fine Steve. Six wins on the bounce, confidence on and off the pitch is higher than it has been for three or four years - at least - the players have shown great improvement and have a spirit and togetherness about them, but let's publicly insult one of our own on an internet message board shall we?!

Sometimes I wonder what people really want in life.

    *shakes head*
  • mate its all tongue in cheek i would love him too prove me wrong, everyone around me knows i do it with a smile on my face, afka definately does it's a standing joke.I think in this league he can be a handful and if he gets 1 at home he will score a hatful, but he needs that break but to me he will always be idol the clown.
  • Why do people (not necessarily those on this thread) want to knock him down? Nothing would please me more if he came good.

He was lively when he came on and took his disallowed chance really well. To me it's all good news. We brought on a nippy winger who has already scored and a pacey striker who is desparate to do well!
  • I don't like that nickname either ....... especially when used against a player who's not so mentally strong as others, and who's been bereft of confidence and self-belief thanks to the Pardew era.

The aggravation he caused on loan at Millwall last season may have taught him a humbling lesson, because there's no doubt a fresh attitude and sense of purpose about him now.

Similar to that I posted in my thread about Youga's performance today, somebody appears to have done a brilliant job with him. These 2 players have been the butt of derision from many Charlton supporters for a while now ..... but I would be really pleased for the both of them if they can show their doubters how good they can be.
  • that nippy winger lightweight lol. Against Walsall the geezer that sits with me called him out loud too lightweight when he came on.2 mins later he scored, today when he came on all around us shouted oh no not lightweight much to my mates embarrassment and continued to barrack my mate for the rest of the game its all done in jest and people should treat it that way.

  • A number of good things about his runout: (1) Izale looked lively and dangerous; (2) agree that given more time on the pitch, it seemed inevitable that he would score; (3) seems to have established himself as a good option B after Burton up top; and (4) demonstrated to both the squad and supporters that Parky will, in fact, give players the chance to earn their way back into the team.

All kinds of reasons why Parkinson could have just given up on Izale, but showing commitment to the players in the squad, I believe, will turn profit.

Hate the derisive name, hope to not see it again, and that those who have been using are subject to similar ridicule -- all in good fun, of course, with a smile on our faces.
  • Its funny how so many now find the term Mc Clown negative, but have only started attacking its use after a few minutes cameo. There has been little out pouring in defence of the player for the majority of his stay at the Valley. I said in pre season that this could be McLeods level and he could be a key player this season and I stand by that.

Sorry to quote myself, first sign of madness ...... ;o)

But I won't use such a name for the reasons I gave before.
Abusing a player, with or without a smile on your face, is just so cruel to a person who evidently wasn't coping personally.
  • Like I think I said in another thread, he's still got a lot to prove, but coming on as a sub when we're winning especially he'll be useful in this league. Don't expect Burton like hold up play, touches or clever passes, but if he gets played in behind defences he'll get a few goals like the disallowed one today. That's how he's scored a lot of his goals in his career and it's the best way to use him.
  • I saw Izale a couple of times a few years back watching the reserves (he was at Derby then) , and I really think he could do a job for us in this league. He looked a class above everyone else on the pitch and went on to do good things with the mk:franchise. Don't get me wrong I'm not calling for a starting place, but you don't forget how to find the net overnight, and given a bit more time on the pitch players like Mcleod could give us the odd goal that help us turn draws into victories.
  • I think he'll come good....

he took a great shot which shocked the keeper having beaten 2 men.....

he caused their defence to make a desperate tackle to deny him a clear chance on goal...

and then when he had a clear chance on goal he lashed it in, only to be given offside.....

agree with whoever said give it another 5 mins and he would have scored....
  • Another player who seems to be benefiting from Parkies management. Semedo, Racon, Youga and hopefully now McLeod .... chance for Dickson yet!!!
  • Kap - Change the thread title to McLeod please.

Yes, Kap ..... please. It's a cheap nasty jibe.

  • In some ways I think it will be easier for Izale to cope with trying to break into a winning team than it was in the last couple of seasons.

When he first came, it was his big chance to show what he could do in a "challenging for the Premier League team". He joined with other strikers and didn't do enough to make a regular first team berth. Now, with a settled side which is performing well, he can't "p*ss and moan" so easily that he has been overlooked. To get in contention he has to keep knocking on the door in the reserves and when he's on the bench.

Yesterday will have done him no harm at all. He came on looked extremely lively, forced the keeper to make a decent save and "scored" one that was marginally offside.
  • i think he has earnt that nickname, but can always be changed if he continues like he did yesterday....

He looked lively, shooting seemed ok(for a change, as thats the reason he has the nickname his shooting). a good alternative wen shelvey gets tired and his pace will be dangerouse, but the jury is out still. should do well in this league tho when given the chance

"attacking it's use"? Do me a favour mate. All there's been is a few people questioning whether the use of the name is entirely appropriate and politely asking for the thread title to be changed, although you have refused to do so. That's up to you.

And you're right, there hasn't been anyone suggesting the "friendly" nickname isn't used before - but that's maybe because he hasn't showed much in the past before. Now there are signs of improvement I just think we should give the guy a break and be supportive, rather than mking them the subject of ridicule. Just my view, of course..

    Totally agree...

and he fact is we are n a strong position everything is on the up the up ... so lets help those that have struggled up til now..... becasue the truth is the way the team reacted to semedo scoring.... I bet they are all desperate for Izale to get one and join in the fun....

the spirit Parkinson has created is fantastic....

Ive been asking myself all day.... actually another thread for this ..... then bed....

Leave Izale alone hes alright, and he will come good... IMHO

Not my jibe but the jibe used by others on here who have now gone sensitive, as for refusing to change, inactivity should not be interpreted as refusal,it may have just been not noticing the request -any way happy to.
  • Was very impressed with his brief showing yesterday. Not only did he tuck away his offside goal fantastically, but his turn inside the area which led to agreat save was impecable. Yes he aint scored at the Valley in 2 years but at least he has obviously put some hard work in following a horrible injury and has kept his chin up. Which is more than we can say for the 'savour' that is Dickson, who behind the scenes sounds like a bit of a moaner, if he wants first team football go on loan like Fleetwood or Izale did. Don't whinge about it and potentially damage morale, also fair play to Yassin who also saw that he wasn't goona get a game and finally wanted out. People like that can seriously ruin the atmosphere within a club. But hey I'm on top of the world, 6 out of 6 and absolutly no complaints.
  • Thanks for changing the title Kap.
  • Yep, nice one, Kap - cheers!
  • Good man Kap.
