Didn't Curbs want him, at the time Parker was firing on all cylinders for us, but the Board wouldn't come up with the cash. Just before it all started to go wrong!
Friends with a Brummie Season Ticket holder, Phillips is looking for a loan move as has been advised he is about 5th choice this season. Asked about the possibility of Phillips playing up on his own or in the "hole" and was advised that he played both roles last year and did ok.
It clearly isn't the usual rubbish that turns up on vital football as the said Brummie advised that our name had been mentioned in the week.
He reckons he is more likely to end up in the Championship, Boro, Blackpool & Preston were also linked apparently.
[cite]Posted By: Scoham[/cite]Not sure, but didn't we have the choice between him and Mendonca? Wonder what would have happened if we signed Phillips instead...
Phillips wouldn't have scored against us at Wembley.
[cite]Posted By: supaclive[/cite]This one will never happen. We can't afford him and he's too good for Division 3. A nice thought, but absolutely not going to happen.

[cite]Posted By: Oggy Red[/cite]But he'd never fit into our current game plan ..... although could be a trump card from the bench.
Genuine LOL. I'd be stunned if he'd drop to League One and certainly not for a bench gig. Think it's just the wrong time for a Charlton Phillips marriage, though he's a player I'd have loved to have seen at the Valley.
I could see him fit into the 4-5-1. Tenacious and hard working enough to lead the line in this league, and we're playing the right kind of football for him. This would also gives us more options in terms of formations. We could rest Shelvey/Burton when they needed it and put proven quality on the pitch. Always hated him in the opposition line-up, just thought goals, goals, goals.
He's 36, while I doubt he'd want to be playing in League One I suspect his mind might change if he was offered a two year deal and help with his coaching badges etc - that is if he wants to go into coaching after his playing career is over.
If Phillips came we'd surely play 442 which makes me worry that it would be part of a deal to sell one of Shelvey, Racon, Bailey or Sam in January. If it's essential for the club to ship one of the above then it's a smart way to compensate and could very easily make us stronger. Or we could end up with another Jimmy Floyd.

Yeah i think so. I'm not saying it'll happen, just thought i'd share.
Would surely only happen if we took him on loan, loaned out Dickson and maybe even McLeod?

And Mendonca wouldn't have got his hat trick.
Unless we've got some new backers?
& he is guaranteed to start.
Will be at a Div 2' side pretty soon, for sure!
or both together
Wasn't me! But I can confirm that this one is doing the rounds on the sports desks of what we used to call Fleet St...
Probably...but I hope a League One side doesn't.
