Dickson on loan?

  • They should stop talking about one of our players publicly. It's like trying to do a deal with Harry Redknapp.

We could always report them to the FA for tapping up, that would be quite fun.

[cite]Posted By: bingaddick[/cite]Dickson could see the light on the way to Dartford, change his attitude, knuckle down and play for the team, I just can't see, this side of hell freezing over, that he will be able to do this. He is better off in a team where he is the main bright spark amongst dim slow burners like I imagine they will be at Priestfield if Scally has anything to do with it.

Yeah I agree, if he goes he'll score goals for a club like Gillingham, when he won't necessarily do it for us.

Bit like Darren Bent really, he was the star of our team, so we set up the team to get the best out of him. At Spurs, he was expected to score goals but offer other things to the team, like Keane and Berbatov did, yet he's not that kind of player. Dickson would get that freedom at Gillingham, along with more space. I can't see Dickson breaking through defensive teams for us in home games, but running onto balls over the top, not having to do much closing down, not having to hold up the ball etc will mean he'll score goals for smaller clubs in this league.

Will mean if/when he goes and gets a few, Parky will be critisized, but hopefully when that happens the rest of the squad will show there's enough goals between them to make up for it. Problem was last season we were desperate for a goalscorer and Dickson was our main hope because of his record at Gillingham and the fact that he'd never been given a chance.
  • The difference between players like bent and Dickson, taking away the disparity of the levels atb which they play, is that bent has consistently donen the business. Dickson at league level has had one bright spell (at Gillingham)but failed to impress at Crewe and done little to impress with us. Although his age is that of a seasoned player he is still at the early stage of his career and for the manager to be saying or implying that he does not work is daft from his point of view. When he has consitently scored goals for us then he can start having attitude but till then he should buckle down.

Personally, I think he will fail wiht the Gills, despite his previous record there.

[cite]Posted By: Oggy Red[/cite]He's obviously been unsettled because of the Jill's transfer gossip dragging on, and no doubt has been saying his piece to management - butit's really up to Dicko to prove in training why he should be in the team.

To be fair, he could score 100 goals in every knockabout he'll not fit into the shape of the current team, so it's a bit of silly and naive point to make.
Actually completely contradicts your first paragraph.

    Thank you, Morts.
Contradiction ...? As we can all see, he doesn't fit in with Parkinson's preferred tactics.

But Parkinson has in matches so far this season, named Fleetwood and McLeod on the bench, 2 players who didn't fit into the current preferred formation either.

So there is quite possibly a bench place for Dickson - it's up to him to show he should be there ahead of McLeod.
No doubt it's a bit of a silly and naive point to make?

Not even ahead of Tuna at the moment which suggests he's got a lot to do. Tamer Tuna, a second year u18 who hasn't even won a pro contract yet.
  • Stimson has apparently made another proposal to us, to take Dickson on loan. I wonder if they've upped their offer from free to a £1 this week. Would love us to tell them to jog on and send him to the likes of Brentford or Orient.

When does the loan window open?

    No one told me!

With Mckenzie not playing yesterday I wonder if Super Parky is holding fire on sending Dickson out on loan.

Agree would much rather see him go just about anywhere other than Jills or Millwall in this league.
  • I seldom indulge in transfer/loan speculation but from what I heard today via the Kentish cricket/football nexus, Dickson will be going to Gills on loan if Scally can come up with an arrangement that doesn't take the piss.

Come on Henry you know he's not good enough to score goals at this level so it really doesn't matter where he goes does it although I did hear Leeds were looking to sign him as a replacement for Beckford when they sell him in January ;-)
  • disagree. Think he can score goals at this level in a team that plays to his strengths.

Just that Charlton dont play like that. Round peg in square hole here

And that I believe is Parky's dilemma. All the time it ain't broke he isn't going to fix it but equally he dosn't necessarily want Dicko resolving other Team's scoring issues. Given that he is by definition 5th choice in a team that plays only one up front it is a tad harsh not to allow Dicko to go elsewhere.

Maybe but that seems as much down to Gills than us. Gills were messing about with offers of £50k then £0 so I don't think it is a case of CAFC not allowing Dicko to go elsewhere.

Parky has said he was happy for him to go on a three month loan with a 28 call back but Dickson didn't want that. Personally I think that is fine for Dickson to say that. Maybe he wants a longer loan or a sale that gives him a more security and/or time to bed in and he's quite entitled to consider his own career IMHO. Parky on the other hand has to do what he feels is best for the Squad and the Club.

I agree. He's not a great player, but a bit like Darren Bent was here, if they make him their main target up front, build their team around him, he will score goals. That might mean playing alongside a big striker and hoofing the ball up to him to flick on, and balls over the top for Dickson to run onto, and clearly Parky has no plans to play like that just to fit Dickson in the side.

McLeod offers the same sort of thing as Dickson, but from the sounds of it he's put more effort into training and shown that he really wants to play.

I can understand why Dickson didn't want to go out on loan, but like you said Parky has to do whats right for us, and keeping Dickson as an option rather than selling him for £50k/nothing isn't a bad thing for us. As long as Dickson doesn't cause any problems it's good for us to keep that competition here.
  • i heard skally on KmFM clearly state that dickson is ''unhappy at charlton'' Is he allowed to do that? I find that a bit intrusive. surley to come up with quotes like that means he has spoken to the player. So maybe they should get the book thrown at them for tapping up?
