Dickson on loan?

edited September 2009 in General Charlton
I fully expect dicko to be going out on loan and can only assume that a deal was close but missed the deadline. i don't like having players in the squad that don't want to play for us. And i know he cant be on that much money but surely it would be better to offload him. Bit strange imo.

Maybe parky still see's him doing a job for us?

  • I suspect that you are right that the deal could not get done in time, look for a loan deal in 7 - 10 days time

or maybe we'll do a swap for Jackson when we have a bit more cash and want to use Dickson as a makeweight.
  • Keeping him makes sense...we've lost one striker in Fleetwood and gained one in Leon McKenzie, with Burton that just leaves Tuna.

As McKenzie is likely not to be match fit it's a hell of a gamble to let Dickson go. Plus who knows, maybe we were trying to get another striker in before the end of the day and failed and if we had maybe Parky would have let Dickson go, or maybe the two clubs just couldn't agree a swap deal for Jackson. All in all I'm happy he's staying.
  • I reckon Parky has signed McKenzie because he could double up for Burton, as the lone striker.

Or he could play in the hole.

Or as second striker in 4-4-2.

Or as cover at left wing, if needed.

That's versatility for you. That's what Curbs often looked for in a player.

But McKenzie himself said today ....... he really wants to play up front.
  • I think Oggy we signed him primarily because he was free and his wage demands aren't going to be that high.

    and McLeod
  • thats what i don't understand tho if he is unhappy here and doesn't want to play for us so people keep saying then surely its best to just let him go. expecially as we have a team in good spirits at the moment.
  • maybe no one, including gills, came in for him.

According to Scally on 606, we weren't prepared to loan him to them!

It's about the 8th comment on the thread it says: (in respect of the story that Dickson was about to go out to the Gills)

I'm sorry to say the story is completely untrue and yet another of Charlton's games. We have been trying to sign Chris for weeks and indeed did make a couple of offers. The fact remains we can't force Charlton to sell to us and it is my view they won't sell to us in case we make him a better player(which i think Mark would). I feel desperately sorry for Chris as i believe Charlton are playing with his career but he is out of contract in 9 months and we will sign him then if not before. Trust me,we have tried desperately hard to sign Chris but have been ignored by Charlton at every stage lately.
  • Dickson may yet have a role to play. He is unorthodox and quick which might be useful if and when teams suss our style out.

No doubt there's a bit of tension between the Jill's Board and ours ......?

It'll be interesting when we play the Jills here and Scally rocks up.
He gives every impression of being the Third Division equivalent of Slime-man Jordan.

Hi BFR, no doubt as finances are pinched at many clubs, there's a surplus of players desperate for a contract who are free and wage demands wouldn't be an issue.

So Parky could have had his pick, no doubt.

But he's evidently chased down McKenzie because of his Prem and Championship experience - and that he seemed to be the best available/affordable to do the job as cover for Burton.

Have I missed something? Where was this said?

From what I know of Chris, he really wants to play for us. I guess above all he wants to play, which is surely understandable?

I'm just assuming that he is unhappy. i would be if i sat on the bench for 2/3 years and worried about my international career.

What is scally doing assing about on chat forums? i hate that millwall tosser
  • Dicko's also been a victim of the formation we play ..... and presently there's no room for him in the starting line up because of that.

Fleets moving might give him his bench place back but he'll be a little disappointed that McKenzie's no doubt slotted into the squad ahead of him.

He's obviously been unsettled because of the Jill's transfer gossip dragging on, and no doubt has been saying his piece to management - but it's really up to Dicko to prove in training why he should be in the team.

If he's hungry and shows that he wants to be part of the 1st team whatever the price he has to pay, then he'll be involved.
Because that's the type of player that management want in their team.
  • [cite]Posted By: carlsberg[/cite]I'm just assuming that he is unhappy. i would be if i sat on the bench for 2/3 years and worried about my international career.
Yup, I'd assume so too, though he didn't have an international career or a league career before us, so while I think he'd not turn a move down I think if we were to switch formations to something more suited to his game he'd be very happy to stay. There's certainly things that I can't really go into detail on that show he's been a lot more of a committed pro to our club than others who people might have considered stalwarts. Appreciate I'm being massively vague and without source, but I'm respecting a confidentiality to try to explain why it irritates me when I see a wild assumption.

To be fair, he could score 100 goals in every knockabout he'll not fit into the shape of the current team, so it's a bit of silly and naive point to make. Actually completely contradicts your first paragraph.
  • If he does well in training though he'd at least be ahead of Tuna on the bench.
  • I hope Dickson gets a chance, his record at gills shows he could cut it and score regularly especially with the chances we create but if he does leave then pray it is not to Gills

  • Dicko wouldnt fit in the system that we are currently playing but if we were forced to go to a normal 442 then he can ( and it is down to him to prove to parky that he is the best man for the role in traing and freindlies) He does know this and has said it.

He does want to play for us but is frustrated by his lack of opportunities which i can understand, i also know that Gillingham corted him and when people are blowing smoke that far up your arse and telling you that CAFC are ruining your career your head could be turned pretty easily

Chris has not said a word publicaly about us or Gillingham he is not forcing the move by slating Parky or refusing to try at training and i think it is unfair to cmment that "i don't like having players in the squad that don't want to play for us"

Parky has got it right at the moment and fair play that he is showing a strengh in his conviction of style and formation he also must know that he may have to change the formation through results or injury at some stage and Dicko may have the pace and drive to aid that.

He may go out on Loan but most teams have 4 main strikers and IMO he is one of those 4 however Izale,Dicko, Tuna will compete for the 3rd and 4th spot

I think the squad seems together and very balanced and i didnt want to see a single member leave so i am very happy today
  • Good points NLA, you can understand if Dicko wants to go to Gills, when his owning club is not playing him and putting him behind a teenager and the Gills talking him up. I hope for all parties it is sorted soon.

I do wonder also if we are being belligerent because of Scally#s continued sniping.
  • Well Mr Scally if you want Chris then try offering the asking price rather than asking him for Free then perhaps Charlton will not 'Play games' with you. Pikey Club Pikey Chairman end of.

exactly, From what i can gather Chris was led to believe at one stage that they had met the asking price or near enough, only to be told that was not exactly true

    Scally is a prize knobend

not really a WILD assumption. Parky quoted on the sky news site.

"Chris is a player who can score goals for us this season. However, he has a desire to play first-team football and he's concerned about his international prospects being damaged by not being in our team.

"I've said to him that if he works hard he might get in our team, but I don't want to keep anyone who doesn't want to be here.

"It's a big season for us and we need everyone pulling in the same direction. Anything is possible, everyone has a price and if the offer is made and we feel its right, he can go."

I might have read the situation wrong.
  • I think Dickson will move on loan next week and we'll replace him with a loan striker. I'd hate Dicko to go to the gills but i'd like him to stay in League 1 . I think he has the capability to score goals in this league, just not in our team, and in much the same way as Fleetwood, as long as those goals are not against us, they could help our cause.
  • Dickson is a free spirit, he is selfish and he plays on the edge. He is undisciplined. I actually like that edginess in a player. The problem for him is that is why Parky won't pick him. Playing the loan striker means you have to be precise about what you do and work extremely hard for the team. Our game is based around quality midfielders where many goals will come from chess board moves which pull defences about creating opportunities for people like Bailey and Jonjo, Racon and Sam. This doesn't really suit Dickson.

Dickson could see the light on the way to Dartford, change his attitude, knuckle down and play for the team, I just can't see, this side of hell freezing over, that he will be able to do this. He is better off in a team where he is the main bright spark amongst dim slow burners like I imagine they will be at Priestfield if Scally has anything to do with it.
  • I'd keep Dickson - no financial motive to sell as he wouldn't fetch much and at some stage - probably sooner rather than later- we're going to be a goal down with 20 minutes left and the formation will have to change and we'll have to do things a bit differently and a bit of Dicko magic could grab a vital equaliser or winner at Carrow or Elland Rd
  • Not if he's not even on the bench he wont!
