  • Wonder if the cost puts them off, they have to pay 25 notes don't they? Same as north lower if memory serves me right, rick will know.. what a waste of an end that is, maybe parky can try and get home fans back in the jimmy seed... ;-)

I actually started to count them at one point
    Christ, it wasn't THAT boring!

So did i, i've never seen a Saturday support at ours so low. I got to 48 completing the C and A then had a strong word with myself. I would be staggered if there more than 150 in that stand. Maybe some didn't make it through the traffic ?
  • Set against this pretty bleak economic background, I would assume that cost was the major factor.
    .............................................................

6% of Walsall’s residents are unemployed (twice the regional average of 3.5%). Male unemployment is 8.9% compared with a regional average of 4.9%.

Prevention strategies are still failing to deliver with no better than a quarter of the population consuming five or more portions of fruit or vegetables a day.

The West Midlands has the lowest rate of adults participating in at least three 30-minute sessions of moderate intensity physical activity per week (19.3%). Walsall has the 3rd lowest rate of all LA areas in the Midlands and 6th lowest rate of all LA areas within the country at 16.1%

    Obesity levels exceed national rates.

The proportion of low birth weight babies in Walsall is higher than the Regional and National average.

Between 2004 and 2006, the suicide rate rose by 37% for men and by 31% for women.
  • Blimey, stilladdicted !! As if the Saddler's fans weren't already depressed !!
  • Blimey, imagine if they had Pardew as manager, that suicide rate wouldve been a lot higher :o(

So you're basically saying their turnout was so poor because they are all dead or unemployed :-)
  • I gotta admit i tried counting them aswell, 136 i made it!?
  • what were the 2 blue tarpaulins for?
  • Stop them from steaming into the east or west stand if they scored!!

Either that or the murder rate would be up ;)

  • Its a bit bizzare the walsall fans are so far apart from each other, did charlton stewards keep them to allocated seats or do they not like each other ?

Having said this I must say I really enjoyed the last visit to the Brescot 4- 2 to us and a very friendly ground it was too.

I have looked into this a bit more and I'm told that 282 people were admitted through the Jimmy Seed Stand turnstiles on Saturday.

Police and stewards don't go through the turnstiles, before anyone suggests it!
  • 282 isn't bad............ so just 22 more than we took to burnley for our saturday fixture last season
  • i was sitting there trying to count number of away fans.....then thought mmmmmm how many folk would it take wearing red or white tops to change CAFC to C*C* or C*N* yes i know childish but im not 50 yet .....think be about 110 ..
  • [cite]Posted By: oohaahmortimer[/cite]282 isn't bad............ so just 22 more than we took to burnley for our saturday fixture last season

For a journey of 115 miles, as opposed to 252 . . . etc, etc
  • I know this compare it with the amount of fans we took to Orient the Tuesday before and ouor noise levels lol Wallsall were laughable not good for the club though
  • Darlington sold 8 tickets for Torquay away today, they are 2-0 down after half an hour....

**come in a taxi, you could've come in a taxi**......they probably did !

what would Oohaah make of that support.

The Football League hi-lights show made a reference to this. They actually ended up with 79 hardy souls following them. Thought the sight of Buzz Lightyear & Mr Blobby dancing round the away end as the goals flew in - ended up 5-0 I believe - was pretty amusing. Fair play to them.

Looking at the hi-lights programme Idon't think Bournemouth took many more than 79 to Morecombe and they are flying at the moment!.

i think that oohaah would point out, and deal with the facts.

darlington sit bottom of the league with one point from eleven games.
they average a shade over 2,000 at home and 1 in 25 made the journey to torquay.

we sit 2nd in our league, average over 17,000 at home and 1 in 32 went to stockport.

Also they said it was the first time Darlo had not brought a coach to an away game ever.

ha ha ha good point well made PBS and looking at stockports program yesterday we have managed to bring the smallest away fan/per home fan ratio to their ground this season ... Just the truth and a FACT
  • Surely you're missing the point though Oohahh. Isn't our away support this year generally better numbers-wise than last year, but home attendances are down. That actually means our home/away ratio has gone up and is surely a reason to be cheerful? OK the starting base may have been low, but an improvement is an improvement, isn't it?

However, that would of course mean that you would have to change the record and think of something else to post about, so I can see why it might be too scary a view to take in.
    ;o)
  • how many do you think will we take to the den, next year?
  • as our crowds are twice as big as millwall - easily 7k?
or just about the upper tier?
  • i'm going in the millwall end .... so there's more room for charlton fans....

The trouble is our away support is in the top 3 in the division, last time I knew. Leeds and possibly Soton ahead of us. That means Ooh aah can't moan anymore, so now he has had to resort to the away fan /home fan ratio. It's a shame but he does only have 2 topics of conversation, so understandable :-)
  • the lower we go the better our numbers will look but i forgot everyone else is satisfied with mediocrity and would rather be a big fish in a small pond.................
    still each to their own
  • When I in 20 years look back to see how we did back in 2009 or so, the first thing I'll be looking at is our away support...... naat. Couldn't care less, as long as those who go enjoy it then it's a good day - the more the merrier but away support stats mean nothing to me. each to their own as you say oohaahmoaanaah.
  • ok well keep reading the 'away support' threads for now AA hope you enjoy them
