Is doing well and looks an inteligent footballer however he is not going to get us promoted on his own. Gray needs to move back north and Mcleod and Fleetwood are not good enough imho. We need a target ala Iwelumo and another.
deon's done a super job, put his two chances away and fought/run for everything... the one problem is the distance that there often is between him and the midfield runner... the fact deon often can't chest/flick/nod the ball 20 yards looks bad on him at first glance but it aint ever his fault if there's noone there to find
[cite]Posted By: oohaahmortimer[/cite]anyone else think deon's more up for it this season than he was last
I think he finally feels like he belongs and has confidence. His signing last season was not exactly popular but he has slowly begun to win people over and I think enjoy his football
His touch and flicks were excellent last night. He's not the biggest but he has a lot of nous at this level, too much for many of the defenders he's likely to come up against.
sorry to rain on your parade but he is not a Hunt or Mendonca and unlikely to ge us more than 12-15 goals this season.
I admit he is trying hard and ruing his b****x off all game...........but we have to face facts that he is not a natural goalscorer and until we find one we will strugle to kill teams off this season
Hunt or Mendonca didn't play the lone striker role, they hunted (did I say that ...?) in pairs generally.
Considering the role Burton's playing in the team, he'd have to perform like Ronaldino or Thierry Henri to keep you happy.
If he was that good, he wouldn't be playing for Charlton at this level, now would he?
But what's wrong with him scoring only 12-15 goals this season, if he's creating the space, layoffs and assists for midfielders to come thundering in and score .... ?
We've scored 7 goals in 3 games, including 2 tricky games away.
Deon's been a vital part of that, and picked off 2 opportunist goals himself.

Exactly, if Bailey gets 10+, Shelvey might not be far behind, and Racon, the centre backs and maybe even Sam might get a few, we'll have goals throughout the team. In some ways it's a lot better than relying on one player to score, like we did with Darren Bent.
Agree with Isaw that he's too isolated, too often, but I guess you can't argue with the goals...
I thought he was dreadful last night. The number of times that we were unable to try and play balls behind their defence because he'd not bothered to get himself back onside (exactly what Wednesday supporters told me we'd find). I guess if we were playing 2 up front, it'd be OK, as there'd be another option while Deon's toiling to get back on.

Sorry but this is incredibly unfair. People were shouting at him to close down their keeper, then moaning at him for not running back 30 yards to get onside- this just isn't possible. He was pivotal in starting many of our forward moves in the second half.

Sounds more likely, I've seen more people say he worked his socks off (and were saying the same after Hartlepool) than calling him lazy.
I don't think anyone would have said three games in Burton would have scored twice. Rest of his game was good, and was always going to be very good at this level. He seems happy here and is working hard, seems to be getting more fans on his side as well, hope he can keep it going.
Playing 4-5-1 we are relying on the midfield and defence to score more than their fare share of goals. Even if Burton has a fantastic season, and it looks good so far, we need the rest of the team to contribute. Unfortunately while he works hard his lack of height means he's unlikely to win that many headers.
Bailey we know likes to get in front of goal and isn't afraid to shoot, and channeling a lot of our atacking play from the right enables him to run into the box and look for crosses and loose balls, Shelvey will get his fair share too. That leaves Semedo, Racon and Sam from the midfielders and none of those are prolific. I always tend to regard goals scored by defenders as bonuses - but we are going to have to get Llera and Dailly up for every corner and free-kick and aim to use them as the target man.

I don't really see that the two things are mutually exclusive: I'm not saying he did not start things, but I did observe - and I only mentioned it because people often completely miss what happens off the ball - that he plays a lot of the game offside, which means that players on the ball, often have to check back because they can't play a pass through to him. Cue a bunch of idiots yelling at the bloke on the ball.
Anyway, his job is not to do what people shout at him, it's to do what the manager tells him. If the manager understands the basics of the game then surely you have to instruct the striker (particularly if they're on their own) they have to balance closing down the keeper with the need to be available and in-play if we get posession?
I guess I'd just ask you to carefully watch him next time out - and if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. But, IMO, he makes problems for team mates.

Super Neon Deon. So good we put his name in lights, lol

Hartlepool and last night were both two little lobs over the keeper. When we signed him I thought God No, but he is proving me wrong.

Probably because he's found his level! Looking at his career his best season in terms of goals to game ratio came at this level for Rotherham.

So credit where it's due.
He's only human though, like everybody else.
If you expect perfection, then just carry on playing computer games.
;o)
about a thing,
'cos every little thing's
gonna be alright,
Don't worry,
about a thing,
'cos Neon Deon's,
gonna be alright, (gonna score tonight)
And it will look something like this...
For my money he's been the player of the month so far with Racon second.

You only post when youre moaning.....
