    What's the song?
ToI Can't Take My Eyes Off You

    Oh Christian Daily
You are the love of my life
    Oh Christian Daily
I'll let you shag my wife
    Oh Christian Daily
I want to have curly hair too.

it could do with some der der der do dos.
Surprised we haven't done that for Bailey ages ago, just replace curly with ginger. Though I think Southend fans sang that.
[cite]Posted By: uncle[/cite]Just a thought but maybe it'll be a good idea to mark Parky out of 10 as well. It'll be interesting to see how people see his role. Motivating from the touch line to substitutions at the right or wrong time

    Good idea
  • I'm sure that lyric would work with In thre Navy by the Village People - just might send out the wrong message I suppose........

It's not new. West Ham used to sing it.

  • Pretty sure I saw you celebrating the 2nd goal on TV Tav. Were you to the left of the goal quite close to the front?

Looking at all the player ratings, interesting how people have chosen different MOM.

Also Burton has been rated as MOM, picked up several 9's - yet one poster rated him as worth only 5.

Not being critical - just pointing out that we can individually see matches very differently.

Edit: Ha ha .... I should check my facts first (!).

Re the Burton comment, I'd confused Saturdays match with what I remembered from the Wycombe match.
So I fecked up there, lol

But my general point still stands - that it's fascinating how we can all see a match so differently.
  • no one has given Burton a 5

My post above amended before I'd seen your comment AFKA.

Should have checked my facts first, rather than rely on my memory, duh!

  • Elliot - 8 - perfect, would only be higher if he had more to do, great rapport with fans
Richardson - 8 - makes it look easy back and forward
    Dailly - 8 - solid, no nonsense
Llera - 7 - solid though had a few wayward moments that dailly avoided
Youga - 5 - this is leniant based on the fact that i can't bear to give lower than 5 to anyone in a team that won so easily. accident waiting to happen, can't pass. weak link.
Sam - 6 - willing runner, more end product please!
Semedo - 8 - ran the midfield with racon, these 2 will dominate all season whoever the oppo
    Racon - 8 - as above
Shelvey - 6 - not at his best, though by no means an underperformer, just average and tidy in possession, still not personally convinced he's ideally suited to this role
Bailey - 9 - typically energetic performance, once again pops up and shows a striker's instinct in the box
Burton - 8 - great workrate and hold up play, tidy finish
  • Additions:

particularly infuriating about youga was bailey was at times a left back as well. youga just refused to track back.

Parky - 8 - no nonsense performance, particularly enjoyed him waving the players right over to us at FT and no just clapping on halfway. only issue is that i personally wanted to see a quick forward on for the last 20 to really stretch an attacking (yet defensively hopeless) oppo.

Fans - 9 - bloody long way so over 500 is more than respectable, 10 if the majority had a sing to help out the minority.

  • from 15 replies CL player of the match is Deon Burton, off-day award goes to Kelly Youga.

  • Personally ISawLeaburnScore, that is the massive bonus of having Bailey at left midfield. For me it's even more important than his goals. Somebody needs to be telling Youga that his first duty is positional integrity and only very rarely to push up when the play is massively broken down. He often pushes out when the match is stagnant and then barely chugs back to position. This is a massive problem, and one the coaches need to drum into him but asap get a replacement.

Still i'm really pleased about Elliot, he seems capable and more to the point a very positive character. He's young and will have dips but it's important that we as fans identify with him as it'll give him the benefit of the doubt; something that Randolph's hissy fit attitude immediately turns me off about him.
  • We all seem to like our players a lot more thie year...

which is probably to do with the fact we are winning....

    Burton 8

Was very impressed with Burton, held the ball up well and was a handful for their defence, especially in the first half. Racon's play setting up the second goal was outstanding.

Just a thought re takeover, it occurred to me during the match how we had managed to hold on to out midfield so far and with the Gray/Barnsley thing and the transfer embargo, does anyone think that the takeover won't take place until after the deadline and then bring in 2/3 loans to bolster the squad. Apologies if this has beeen suggested before.
  • You can see Pork Pie and myself behind Traven during the celebrations. It would be nice if there was a photo of it.

  • "We all seem to like our players a lot more this year... which is probably to do with the fact we are winning.... "

Possibly, but I reckon it's also to do with the collective attitude and industry they're showing. Surely, Parky deserves credit now for that - he's gradually cleared out the wasters that would've crumbled in tricky conditions at Hartlepool, and formed a more balanced unit than Pardew ever seemed to put out. The beauty of the Hartlepool performance was that the hard work was complimented by some excellent passing football that the home team genuinely couldn't deal with. To use that well-worn cliche, we "earned the right" to play, then did it, even in such a strong wind.

Pretty much concur with most of the player performance comments, though I do think Youga played a part defensively when they threw a few set pieces in during the first half. Great to see several defensive players attacking the ball in the air, rather than waiting and reacting only when half the damage is done. Clearly they'd had it drilled into them beforehand that they had to attack the first ball, and that, coupled with a few bodies-on-the-line blocks gave us a platform. Again, not something we've seen much of in recent years. Of course there are still weaknesses within the squad, but the midfield look more than capable of controlling most games while confidence is so high.

As said elsewhere, Dailly's been excellent so far. I also thought Llera did really well. Perhaps he just stands out more, and being less mobile, we hold our breath and wait for the error. Richardson may prove to be an outstanding freebie; good balance of defence & attack so far, and Robbie coped with the conditions and made that excellent reflex save. Finally, Deon was outstanding, winning just about everything tossed up to him despite conceding a few inches to both CB's. Great to see all that work rewarded with another goal.
  • Good all round solid team performance with lots of positive professional attitude...

Robbie 'strawberry blonde' Elliott was quite fautless...

Defence looked quite solid and well organised by the experienced Dailly...

Midfield bossed it for us, particularly JJ...

    Burton was tireless up front...

Only weak link for me was Youga, often out of position and distribution was lacking at times....

    Elliot - 8
    Richardson - 7
    Dailly - 7
    Llera - 7
    Youga - 5
    Sam - 6
    Semedo - 7.5
    Racon - 7.5
    Shelvey - 7.5
    Bailey - 7.5
    Burton - 7
  • Having just watched the BBC highlights, I thought Burton took his goal calmly and very composed with opponents all around him - most players might have just snatched at it.

I wouldn't have wanted to have been in the boots of that Hartlepool CB in the dressing room at halftime though - I bet his ears were well scorched by his manager, lol

Brilliant and determined play by Racon making Bailey's goal though. It just shows that when a player gets to the byeline, the cross is almost impossible to defend - and Bailey powering in from the blindside could barely miss.
  • Most solid and comfortable away performance i have seen from a Charlton team in a while.
