I'm guessing it is Jackson Mart. No proof though.[/quote]
You'll never write for a tabloid with that attitude, PROOF!! ;)[/quote]
Not for the Mirror judging by the way they get every Charlton story completely wrong
[cite]Posted By: BexleyRed[/cite]Why do Gillingham want him so badly if he's crap.
Because they're crap as well?
[cite]Posted By: Friend Or Defoe[/cite]He's a proven goalscorer at this level, what have the gills got that's better?
I don't think you can become a proven goalscorer after 15 games. Jonatan Johannson scored about 8 in his first 15 for us, he was in no way a proven Premiership goalscorer!
Unless we can get someone in quick though, there isn't much point in selling him. And with 7 subs this season, and possibly 2 starting, we should have 3/4 strikers in the matchday squad.
[quote][cite]Posted By: McLovin[/cite]I don't think it's particularly smart man management to be honest. quote]
I suppose it als depends on what he is saying to Dicko to his face. Gills have also put over the impression that Dicko wants to move there, so it is a way of shutting them up.
Gillingham’s pursuit of Chris Dickson has been tested after Charlton manager Phil Parkinson offered to agree to a deal – but only if they received a player in return.
The Gills have been interested in the 24-year-old for several months and manager Mark Stimson has made the striker his top summer transfer target. The Priestfield boss has been an admirer since the lively forward scored 11 goals in 14 games during a loan spell at the club two seasons ago.
Charlton have always been unwilling to consider a deal, rebuffing a bid last month rumoured to be around £50,000. Parkinson has now changed tack, saying Dickson would be available if Stimson agreed to a swap.
The Addicks boss said: “Gillingham have been talking to us about Chris all summer, and we keep telling them he's not going there. We've now said to them that we'll let him go there if they give us one of their strikers in exchange. I won't give you the name of him, but you might be able to guess. If that deal doesn't happen, then Chris isn't going to go there.”
Parkinson is almost certainly talking about Simeon Jackson, who scored 22 goals last season to help fire the Gills to promotion from League Two.
Stimson, who last season said he reject a £1 million bid for his prized asset, is unlikely to agree to the swap, which would still leave him with only one proven goalscorer in the squad.

The only semi-decent striker they have is Jackson. Even then, I wouldn't swap Dicko for him and he's been too inconsistent. Jackson is too young and too unproven and I don't buy this b**locks of 'well, he trained with Man U and Villa wanted to buy him' e.t.c.. And that's not withstanding the fact that there are better strikers already in league 2. Like Shrewsbury's Grant Holt for example who was League 2's top scorer last season and I can't for the life of me understand what a championship-calibre player is doing there.
But if the swap suggestion gets their backs up then I'm all for it. And I think Parkinson is being clever here because Gillingham will want Dickson as a decent strike-partner for Jackson. Take Jackson out of that equation, and it will no doubt shoot their primary intention for buying Dicko down in flames.
Also interesting to read in Parky's interview that Fortune and Holland could still be with us as they have not been offered contracts elsewhere and the contracts that we have offered them are still on the table. The ball is, as they say, in their court. C'mon Jon....I know you want more cash but sign the contract and help us get promoted! ;-)
I think Parky is sounding great! I think that's the end of the Gills interest in Dickson anyway, nice bit of cheek! It definitely sounds like something's happening, which is some comfort. I thought everyone had just gone on holiday? Well, bring on the weekend. Please Parky can we have some more...I know I'm being greedy!
[cite]Posted By: BBClaus[/cite]grant holt went to norwich for about 400k this summer. i never understood why him and jack lester dropped into league 2
Lester is quality! I'd still sign him up for a season, even though he is knocking on a bit. Skillful, pretty fast(though may have lost some speed the last few years) a vicious left foot & knows where the back of the net is. Wasted in the 4th Division!
I think Dickson is a better prospect than Jackson, & would do well for us this season, given the chance.
The way Parky's been talking lately, it's as if he's got an inkling that perhaps we're no longer so desperate to sell?
The talk about Gray only leaving if Barnsley up their price to Charlton's valuation, sounds like we're no longer looking to raise cash, anycash anyhow, for our players wanted by other clubs. And Gray's wages may not now be the issue it may have seemed a couple of months ago .... ?

Sounds to me like we want to keep him, and we're saying they can only have him if they give us their best striker, which they clearly aren't going to do.
I doubt they've got much money to spend, and we have nothing to gain from selling Dickson for £50k to even £200k.
[cite]Posted By: ShootersHillGuru[/cite]I suppose Dockson could be a makeweight in a deal for Jackson ? The only striker they have worth losing Dickson for ?
I think Brunello got it right for once when he said PP was winding up the Gills.
He was warning them off unsettling our players by doing the same to theirs. Imagine what the other Gills players are saying to Jackson this morning in training and all the questions Stimpson and Scally will be asked in their next press conference.
Parky was saying after the Bournemouth match pre-season isn't about playing your best team.
Obviously those midfield 4 need to be in the team, but I think Semedo gives us a nice balance.
It's really a decision between Burton (Gray just not fit enough yet) with Shelvey getting more freedom, but that lacks pace, or Burton and McLeod (if not Dickson) but probably Semedo being dropped, which means less freedom for Jonjo, but no proper defensive midfielder. Could depend on what sort of defenders Wycombe have, if they've got a couple of slow players in there playing McLeod might be more worthwhile.
If Semedo's not back from his injury I'd want 4-4-2, no point playing Spring in there and expecting him to do Semedo's job.
Don't mind if we play 4-5-1, as long as Shelvey is forced that bit more forward. But if we play 4-4-2 has to be Dickson every time, whether he scores or not he occupies many more defenders than forest Mcleod 'there can be only one goal a season'.
tel, it's more that it made it on to the O/S that makes it interesting. Someone must have told the website editor to go against normal practice like that and acknowledge a rumour. Even if it's just a wind-up, it's still worth talking about the club doing something as unusual as this.
Well the OS and the club have been crticised for no news, so maybe they have just gone into total overdrive......and a bit of mischieve maybe to wind up Scally?

maybe parky went public with it because he's sick of them unsettling the player when they can't or won't meet the asking price. just a guess.

Henceforth: a rumour shall only be regarded as a legitimate rumour once it has been rumoured on the OS ???
No, because it isn't a rumour.
It's a summary of a direct quote from Parkinson in a press conference.
Do keep up : - )
