  • Gray's on it then.
  • ... and no Moo2
  • Dailly 35 seems a weird one!

Anything to be read into Gray having 9?

    is that his age?
  • Mambo doesn't even have a 5 in his squad number :(
  • [cite]Posted By: carly burn[/cite]Gray's on it then.

if he wasn't we'd only speculate as to why he wasn't and they are probably trying to avoid this. Also no shirts in the shop at the moment to have numbers and names printed on so there will be no complaints on that front either when he leaves shortly.
    [cite]Posted By: stonemuse[/cite]... and no Moo2

they admit though that he is on trial at Pompey
  • I thought you were not allowed gaps in the squad numbers at this stage?

I think you're ok so long as it's not in the 1-11 range.
  • and no Fortune......
  • it means nothing, Mcleod is still in there too.

  • Christian Daily is in at number 35 (and there is a gap before him) which seems to suggest that these numbers were decided some time ago, perhaps before it looked as though Gray was leaving.
  • Gray was probably always likely to leave, assuming he still does leave I guess this is a legitimate way to leave a good number for a new striker?

No number 13, the traditional number for the backup keeper then.

Mambo should definitely have been given number 25, if he can't have 5.
  • No Matt Holland? Anyone know if he's any closer to signing a new deal? It would be a mistake to let him go I think.

    disagree
  • [cite]Posted By: Duck-Killer Brown[/cite]and no Fortune......

But his squad number of 24 hasn't been taken
  • Great to see Elliot at 1. Can't remember the last time our first and second choice keepers came up through the youth system.
  • I believe that our first game in the prem up at newcastle we actually started with numbers 1-11
Doubt that has happened much since for any club.
  • No Christensen either
  • 1-11 seem to relate to traditional positions.
with semedo getting the 6 shirt, perhaps parky sees him as a centre half.

    why?

    disagree

    why?

Because Bailey, Semedo, Shelvey, Racon and Spring are all better centre midfielders. I don't think a 6th choice central midfielder is a priority at the moment, especially one who will command a significant wage.
  • Interesting gaps 21, 23, 24 - reserved for new signings? Does Gray's No 9 mean he's staying? I'd rather we sold him to Barnsley regardless of whether the "takeover" provides us with funds.

He said only the other day he thinks he can be a strong defensive midfielder, and we know he still wants to sign two centre backs (Dailly counted as a utility player). I guess he'll be back up at centre back and right back if required.
  • Do numbers on shirts actually mean anything now a days, even in Friendlies where 1-11 is worn, Semedo was wearing 3 playing in central midfield

the amount of years since he was a good player?

I seem to recall reading a couple of years ago that we were the last team to field 1-11 in a Prem game - I doubt that record has been broken since.
  • 1 is self explanatory
    2 is right back
    3 is left back
    4 is centre mid
5 & 6 for the centre halves or lumbering Bulgarian workhorses
    7 right midfield
    8 centre mid
    9 & 10 forwards
and 11 is for left wingers or Lee Bowyer

It should not happen any other way

Unless your name is Stuart Balmer and you end up wearing number 1

    Bloody yoof of today.

Now listen..... (always in 2-3-5 formation)

    1 GK
2 & 3 Full backs Right and Left
    4 and 6 Right wing-half and Left wing-half with 5 Centre half.

7 and 11 wingers right and left. 8 inside right and 10 inside left. 9 Centre forward.

    12 Semedo.

    End of lesson.
