Henry Irving asked ''Where has anyone said he is the new messiah?'
Well, while you were away Oggy, with his enviably boundless enthusiasm, claimed that Parkinson was a combination of the best of both Lennie and Curbs !!!
I've only seen one game this season. But it seems to me that our fine start shows just how much it is to do with confidence. Win a couple of games and it becomes quite simple to win a few more. Go on a losing streak and it can become monumentally diffcult to break the defeatist mentality.
Somehow this summer, Parky made this squad believe they could win - many of them the same players who seemed born to lose last season. Don't know how he did it because looking at it from the outside, he never seemed like a strong motivator. But respect to him because he's clearly got something right.
I think it is mildly diverting to examine the fickle nature of football fans, myself included.
All I would say in my 40 plus years of supporting is "twas ever thus". Whilst (Oggy excepted), I don't think anyone is seriously claiming that Parky is the second coming (or is it the third?) Nevertheless most ardent fans can't fail to be stirred by the start we've made. If like me you drove a total of ten hours plus to see them play on Saturday and witnessed the best away performance (certainly in goal terms) I have ever seen from an Addicks team, you might feel a little disposed to give credit to Parky; even if, like me, you felt last Christmas, if not before, that he was sperm of the devil and needed to be cast out!
