[cite]Posted By: Sailor Browneye[/cite]But it appeared to me that David Smith, if, say, he were in Derek Chappell’s shoes, he’d advocate trying to push the that fact we are still better placed than Southampton in every regard and that’s a debatable point in our current circumstances.
SB, this is the second time today that you've implied that David Smith is acting as a mouthpiece for Derek Chappell. Cut it out will you?
[cite]Posted By: Rothko[/cite]We'll get funding toward the training ground if selected as a training venue, but it's more to do with the Olympics being a pump primer for the wider Thames Gateway area, and the investment that will add to the local community.
As far as I can see we have been selected both Valley and Sparrows Lane.
Oh hang on, this appears to be a brochure for teams to choose from.
is there any real likelihood it will deliver anything other than maybe a bit of funding for training ground and pitch usage, or a couple of functions in the banqueting rooms ?
Personally no I don't think it will come to more than that but without knowing how much money is coming to Greenwich and how it is to be allocated it's hard say.
But if we get some money to re-furbish the training ground and increase the occupancy of the banqueting rooms then all well and good. We need every penny we can get.
Now if they were pay for the new East, sorry, Olympic stand and the new Jimmy Seed, sorry, Seb Coe stand then that would do me : - 0
The question that no one has asked yet is if we do attract funding for the use of our training facilities, does that funding go to the club, or to those who will by then own the training ground ??

First up, please don't tell me what I would should or shouldn't do - not likely to have much effect.
Secondly, I never suggested David Smith was acting as a mouthpiece for Derek Chappell. I said I thought he WAS Derek Chappell 'and I claim my five pounds'.
But, for what it's worth, I'd still say he may well have been him. Might not have been. His style was awfully reminscent of our Chairman when he came on here last year.
But, anyway, David Smith said the following and I have tried not to take anything out of its correct context:-
'What is happening with Collins article,is exactly what the potential buyer wants,he planted the story with no doubt.'
'there will always be investors as we are at the heart of south east´s development and in an Olympic borough, keep positive.'
(my words for context) - 'the interested party has'...Just seen Southampton deal and thinks he can push price lower, forgets we are not in administration and are in London not Hampshire, and premium over Southampton is part location and part going concern versus negotiating with Administrator who had to do a deal or fold the club.'
'would Peter Varney drag it on this long and squeeze his old friends and employers like this.?'
You think Mr Chappell, as part of a cash-strapped Board looking to get out and allegedly with some of their investment back too, would have a problem with any of those quotes Mr Wibble?? Eh?
The guy's main thrust was that the current Board, despite our cash flow problems, have things under control and the buyer, if he is serious (for Mr Smith throws doubt on this), is using the national press and putting pressure on the present owners to lower the price without much justification...
I'd say Mr Chappell and Mr Smith could certainly share a pleasant beer together.
I make no judgements on the fairness or accuracy of the information provided by Mr Smith at all. He just 'reminded' me of somebody else. That's all!
[quote][cite]Posted By: Airman Brown[/cite][quote][cite]Posted By: falconwood_1[/cite]I'd be more concerned trying to get back the 10,000 we've lost over the past 3 seasons first. . . .[/quote]
Quite (although 10,000 is probably a bit of an exaggeration).[/quote]
If we are anticipating 12-13,000 crowds, 10,000 is probably about right.
Also, there is only 1 David Smith, eh Oooh Aaah. . . . .
Actually I genuinely thought I must be getting old and cannot recognise the big long term opportunity provided by the 2012 Olympics. Well neither can anyone else, so there isnt one.
Which is not to decry the short term opportunities which may exist. But our business is professional football on a continuously supplied basis. The value of the business will be evaluated on the revenue we earn from that, over a period of several years.

No, I agree I can't see a long term benefit either (although your original question wasn't about long term benefit) unless there is funded capital expenditure to build new facilities at the Valley or Sparrows Lane. I'm not aware of any such possibility but Charlton were successful is getting various capital grants that helped to pay for the North Stand redevelopment so it may not be total fantasy.
And you are right that the value of a business will be judged on revenue we earn and potentially will earn. Then again a local, or international business man or woman maybe buying for the kudos of owning a football club or as a "do-er upper" ie buy now get the club into the Prem and sell on at a profit as the Irish group did at Sunderland.
but that is just speculation, just like so much that has been written over the past few days.
PS you are getting old : - )
PPS Alex is still trying to find the right size scanner for the posters
The talk of what London 2012 will do for us reminds me of how much talk and planning Charlton did in relation to the Greenwich Millennium celebrations. All the lounges would be booked out months in advance at over the top prices. There was even talk of the pitch being used for a huge party.
The reality was only one lounge was used and that was by Martin Simmons.
If the Olympics have a positive effect (moneywise) on the club then great but I will believe it when I see it.

Can't see why it matters who the poster Dave Smith is. Can't see why it matters who the poster Sailor Browneye is. Some people prefer to have their real identities kept secret and that is the way it should be for EVERYONE.
I fear the biggest link between us and the Olympics may be the newly formed Stratford Athletic playing at the Olympic stadium in 2013/14 season. I am becoming a doom mongerer, it is any easy step to make after becoming a waverer recently.

You beat me to it by 52 seconds!
Good question.
Sub-let by the Club or direct to the landlord?

As i mentioned in the closed thread, this bloke is too positive to be the real one.
The unreal David Smith.

I think that Charlton are just a little too wide of the mark. I think the Dome is the nearest benfactor to Charlton, but you never know.....
