We are going to sign Jamie Scowcroft, was seen in Beckenham tonight, said to cousin that he has been close in the past but never materialised, but have been told that he is set to sign next week, remember where you heard it first

  • are you basing this because you saw him in Beckenham ? If so he probably lives there seeing as he plays for Palarse.
  • hmm, wouldn't be surprised if true. Would be a Gray replacement.

33 and hasn't scored a goal since the 07-08 season though. 14 in 83 for Palace.
  • no thanks, got enough strikers who can't score
  • My cousin knows his girlfriend aswell, got him to phone her after and she said that we have to get rid of gray first. Southampton was after him but since the takeover has not had a phonecall from them. He wouldn't be my cup of tea but just keeping u in the loop. This is deffiantely fact, If I were to make something up it would be abbit better then this lol
  • Pop quiz -who has been linked with Charlton the most out our Scowcroft and Darren Purse
  • Oh please no - the phrase "over the hill" could have been created for him.
  • 10 years ago when he was at ipswich defo, not now tho yet again another one of curbs style players.... the clues are there peeps... ;-)
  • AFKA has got it right.

    Like for like.
  • Booooooooooo.

Too old, overweight and doesn't score.

    Please no.
  • Think he can do a job, like Gray though needs the service. Can turn well, get the ball down, win a lot in the air.

with far cheaper wages I suspect, people need to remember the type of player we can now attract !!
  • HOW THE MIGHTY HAVE FALLEN ..... player/waste disposal dumping ground = the valley

I don't recall Scowcroft being top scorer in The Championship a couple of seasons ago.

Actuall I can hardly recall him scoring at all.

Had a good laugh at this but then a cold sweat came over me as I realised how true it's been in recent years.
  • Lumbering carthorse comes to mind.

I think we do need a commanding aerial player but get someone who is mobil ffs.

We are 3 leagues away from Welling, give you a clue!
  • Why the panic to get rid of Gray? OK, he is on big wages but he will score in this division and that in itself should be worth the money if it gets us promoted.
I just don't understand why they are willing to let him go on a free when we paid over a million for him.

    Explain please!
  • We are skint DFT.

    Literally potless.

He would score goals in Div 1 but his wages are Championship, which we aint.

I don't see us looking for promotion this year.
  • Please let this be a wind up.

I know we are in League1 and the quality of players we are able to attract has therefore fallen but surely not this low. Useless, imobile and can't score. I would rather Burton, Dickson, Mcleod, Fleetwood & Tuna as he is no better than any of them and we already have them!

When Dowie bought Traore & Faye I remember saying that if I was on the Board and he had asked me to pay for them I would have fired him on the spot for an f*ing stupid suggestion, exactly the same in this case IMO.

Yes and only 2 leagues away from Man U !

Still think we could do better than Scowcroft.

Agree with much of what you've said but the last sentance was pure tosh....of course we'll be looking for promotion...now whether we'll get it or not is debateable but we'll 'certainly' be looking for promotion....if not then what's the point of even having the club go on existing?

Much prefer Burton and he's probably more likely to score. Not the sort of striker we need.
  • FFS hold on yes we are potless but why throw Gray out for f**k all ? hold on till Jan , if he scores a good few at this level we can still sell him then and probably get a few quid more.
  • Coz they cant afford to pay his wages GH. . . .

We were looking for promotion last year!, but in reality we all knew we had no chance.

We are 1000 leagues away from Man Utd, we've gone back 10 years in 2 seasons.
  • its getting ridiculous. we maybe potless but the only way to get money back into this club is to get promoted at the first opportunity.

its catch 22, Gry maybe on big wages but his goals between August and December might put us in a situation where we can go up.

getting rid of him on a free just because of his high wages is ridiculous
  • What GH said.

And please kids, say NO to Scowcroft.

If you were to consult one of our stripey rivals, they would be p*ssing themselves laughing at this possibility. He is toilet, pure and simple.
  • Firstly hi all. I was wondering why the rush to get rid of Gray. He can do well for us if his mind is in the right place to do so. If the much fabled t/o goes through maybe there will be the financial backing to pay his wages for the season. And if nothing occurs then we would probably be able to move him on later in the transfer window, even just for a year on loan if it covers his wages, I'm sure there will be enough takers. It would seem a tad daft to get rid of him now get in Scowcroft and then realise we could of afforded Gray all along.
  • It is problem as simple as Gray wants to go back up north.
  • does he tho? didn't he turn down stoke in Jan because he has his wife had finally settled here or was it just he didn't wanna move her when she was ill?

Fair play if he does want to go back up north I am just saying we shouldn't be realising him on a free
  • id rather have an underpaid underperformer than an overpaid underperformer, I think..
