When Martyn Waghorn came on loan he reminded me of Bradley, so I guess I have to include him in here as well.
Both had a great touch but whenever they tried to knock the ball past a defender they were too slow to get on the end of it. Defenders had time to turn before starting to chase after them, yet they'd still get to the ball first.
Funny Waghorn was mentioned, I remember after the Derby game Parkinson said how we used his pace.
Don't remember much of John Barnes now but I can imagine.
I'd agree with the more recent ones, JFH, Holland and Basey lacked that bit of pace that they could have done with. Andy Gray isn't much better either.
It's a bit unfair to name players in their mid-30's when they were about to be given last rites as footballers - Barnes and
JF Piggybank were sharp and pacy enough in their prime.
Although admittedly both you and I could walk faster than they could run, by the time they signed for Charlton,
""You can teach someone a bit of skill and how to pass a ball but it is impossible to teach pace. That's what I had and it terrified the best defenders in the land."

Matty Holland is pretty pedestrian these days too - his legs go round like a steam train but he doesn't actually seem to move anywhere!
harry boy crippes (still a legend tho)
Me too. Did he ever leave the centre circle??
Only when he breathed out.

Beat me to it! His shadow was faster than him!

Bollox to you too!
And this guy too! (Seconded NLA)
phil chapple chasing a striker = bob willis coming into bowl (probably as he would do now)
Yeah, but he was 36 or 37 by the time he signed for Charlton.
You don't find many 36 year old whippets around.
And I speak from experience.
;o)
