Didn't see the game, but they went out and did the job and got a good result.
There are still people out there that think we should be smashing teams like Kazakhstan 15-0, just not going to happen. Same story every time, these teams put a lot of men behind the ball and make it hard for them to be broken down. A lot of them also have some decent players, teams like Kazakhstan are probably quite a bit better than the likes of San Marino, but instead all these sort of teams are seen as part-timers that we should be destroying.
Capello is doing a good job, but the real test will be how we do in the World Cup (and Euro 2012 if he's still here). Sven actually did a very good job with what we had, 3 quarter finals in a row. Wasn't always great football or particularly convincing, but McClaren showed how well Sven really did.
Why on earth don't Kazakhstan play in the Asian qualifiers? The city they played in (Almaty) is less than 300 miles from China and you can fly to America quicker than Kazakhstan. FIFA worked that one out really well.

Ummm... Because they're in Europe and affiliated to UEFA.

I'd have said they were in central asia. I know it's a huge country but Almaty is further away than Uzbekistan who play in the Asian qualifiers. I just think it's stupid to have a country playing in the same group when it takes over 8 hours to fly there.
And if they can allow Australia to play in the Asian qualifiers, why not Kazakhstan?
Never mind what you'd have said! They're affiliated to the European federation, are a part of Europe politically-speaking and that's that.
Yes Almaty is further East than Uzbekistan (and for that matter, Turkmenistan, Kyrgysztan and most of Pakistan)- but that's only the capital city. Parts of Kazakhstan are much further West than that - and anyway, most of Russia is a hell of a lot further East than Kazakhstan is - yet you don't see anyone saying Russia should play in the Asian qualifiers.
Australia play in the Asian section because for years it was ridiculous that they played the sodding Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and New Zealand for the right to compete for the possibility of a play-off place at the world cup. Hardly the same argument can be made for Kazakhstan - who would be pants irrespective of whether they competed in the European or Asian sections.
I suspect that few people could draw Kazakhstan with any accuracy on a blank map of the world. I always wonder whether Kazakhstan would like to play in a tournament where they have to play minnows. I am sure they would like to play the Isle of Wight away and win 4-0.

Few people maybe: but not everyone
Now Google it - thats not a bad stab at the location I reckon

I gather there was some sort of memorial service?
