[cite]Posted By: Centenary_Shirt[/cite]It was lack of passion that did it for him but the lack of being able to recover from his injury sufficiently enough to return to being the player he was.
He was a slow player before the injury and simply couldn't compete after. What could we have done differently? He was under contract when he got injured and no-one was going to buy him when it was clear he would never fully recover.
Assuming you meant it wasn't a lack of passion that's all true. He wasn't quick enough to close down or fit enough.
Think about it, a professional player that isn't fit enough to handle much more than 45 minutes. He was never a player to 'get stuck in' from the beginning.
Weaver and Toddy did a job and Toddy in particular was unlucky with injuries. Thanks and good luck guys.
I disagree totally. 12 months ago i would have said this, but last season i thought his perceived committment to the cause was nothing short of shocking. A player that appeared to have little interest in digging us out of a hole, who gave the impression that he was worthy than better than where we were.
A bit unfair - he was injured last season and presumably given a one year contract on a pretty low basic plus a pay as you play deal. From November/December onwards it was clear that he didn't feature in Parky's plans and the club preferred to play other forwards, including loanees rather than one of our own. If you perceive a bad attitude then that's fair enough, but equally the club were less than straight with him.
It'll be interesting to see where he goes - I suspect it'll be into retirement.
The only reason Toddy didnt play much last season was cos we were twats and put a £6K per appearance fee on his contract, and ovbs didnt have the money to pay him that.
Wont forget his strike against Stockport in the CC.
[quote][cite]Posted By: Swisdom[/cite]I never understood the purchase of Toddy anyway [/quote]
Not many of Pardews purchases that I did understand!
As for weaver, given his last appearance at the valley before he joined us, i have never heard a player so barracked and he showed a lot of nerve joining us. Overall, he kept us in more games than caused us to lose and who can blame a keeper becoming dodgy when is defence changes every week. Weaver - I'd buy a drink, Toddy nah.

Toddy, was so composed ........ fed Sam, then drifted onto the edge of the box.
Sam passed to feet, Toddy collected, bought himself a little time, turned and cracked home a beaut.
Most players would have just blindly thrashed it first time.
Toddy showed his quality.

How do you know that? What sort of wage was he on (without bonuses)?

No idea, around £20K probs. Read it somewhere as this person had asked Toddy why he wernt playing much

Typo I did mean wasn't.
If it had been the appearance fee stopping him, then he, like Ambrose would have been given the opportunity to waive it. Which he would have, but he simply wasn't picked.
Don't agree with that, after Di Canio, Todorov is probably the best passer and most creative out and out striker (by that I mean not a midfielder up front or 'in the hole', so not Zheng, Ambrose, Shelvey etc) we've had in recent years. He had vision, could create a chance, just didn't have enough opportunities to show it.

But he couldn't run at defenders. What I mean is you need someone to do the running when he's on the pitch and I don't think Bent was that sort of player. Toddy is very creative, but he see small opening which don't require much running. I believe that defenders today are generally faster than they used to be and you need someone to run at them.
When did we ever have a striker truly effective at running at the opposition? Di Canio by the time he was with us was a deep lying string puller and didn't directly run at people so much.
Toddy was leading assist/creator for Pompey when they got promoted and scored twenty five goals. He was the second best in the hole assist player I've seen at Charlton after Di Canio. As I said before in Pardew's squad Toddy would have done nothing and that is because the midfield did not compress, there was no support from midfield and he wouldn't have had a strong pacey attacker who could occupy defenders. Even with Andy Reid, he'd have struglled, especially after Marcus Bent left. Varney, Iwelumo and Dickson would not have made the runs for him or occupied defenders enough to give him a role in the hole. Past Reid only Mouta was willing and able to attack space, in order to reap the benefits of Toddy's vision. And we all know the management didn't want to play him.
We probably didn't see the best of Toddy but the Palarse goal was unforgettable and priceless, so thanks for that Toddy!
A quick word on Nicky Weaver, I reckon he deserves a pat on the back a)for having the balls to join us given the history and b) for his generally decent performances whilst he represented us. All the best to them both.

But that's irrelevant if he is quite possibly the only player on this earth who can pull a hamstring whilst making a sandwich. He maybe the most creative out and out striker we've had, but if he's injured or not fit 100%, then that's really helpful..
I say F**k toddy and would throw a drink over him especially if he was on a decent amount of appearance money.
one particular home game in the whole 10 or fifteen mins he was on the pitch he quite clearly was never going to break into a run or even bother trying to close anyone down.
Ten f****ing mins at least look like your interested.
IMO Toddy was a failure, and a costly one at that. 1 palace goal however sweet does not make up for several season's of abject failure .
As others have posted his best days were apparently behind him, unlucky with injuries maybe..... Has been a luxury well beyond our means last year, wish him no ill will, but Taxi for Toddy.......

Well of course it doesn't matter, was just replying to Centenary_Shirt that Todorov is creative player.

Bit harsh, not his fault we gave him decent contracts.
By the time he was able to play last season he had no stamina or pace, too slow to close down and not fit enough to constantly do it any way. He had to make the best of the very little fitness he had. But yes it's time for him to go, shame it never worked out as he was a good player.
Todorov never closed down right from his early days at West Ham. That's not what he was about. Even players who I don't like, like Amdy Faye I'd never throw a drink over. You may be using that as a 'phrase' but in my book that's one step away from spitting at someone, and is a disgraceful thing to do. Fair enough if you were frustrated with him, but maybe have a conversation first and see what he has to say.
Anyways closing down? I'm sorry but only Semedo, Hudson and Bailey ever attempted it consistently for the last few seasons and of the others Fortune and Varney attempted or tried bloody hard respectively. Todorov didn't, wouldn't and couldn't work fit or not because no one closed down and compressed.
Todorov never should have be re-signed for this past season. He was damaged goods, and was unlikely to ever be an effective player at The Championship level again. His legs were gone. It wasn't just that he had lost speed, he had no quickness. He was done, and Pardew should haved known it.
As good a player Toddy WAS at one time it was clear, even from his cameo against Burnley, that his legs had gone. To my mind his muted celebration when he scored and the lack of any known "banging on the Manager's door" for a place in a failing team rather lead me to believe that there was always an acceptance that his career is all but over.
Even if he was fit what League exactly would he fit in? Not good enough for our top two Divisions and not robust enough for the lower Leagues, the only place I could see him going is to a sub standard foreign outfit such as in Cyprus or possibly in one of the Scandinavian countries.
He'll probably go to Palace, where he'll be even less mobile than JFH was for us.
But because Warnock will realise he's a quality finisher and a box player, he'll play to his strengths and not expect him to run the channels like a Luke Varney.
He'd get the other players to do the graft - and Toddy will get the goals, 25 next season.
Simples.

;o)
There is, of course, Oggy my friend a massive flaw here. The assumption is that either CAFC last season or Palace next would created 25 chances for him and we both know that that would never happen.

I see he's returned to his former club in Bulgaria, Litex Lovech. Scored on his "debut" on the 8th August after coming on as a substitute (no change there then).
